Book Phosphorus and Zinc Effects on Soybean Glycine Max L Merrill Yield and Agronomic Efficiency

Download or read book Phosphorus and Zinc Effects on Soybean Glycine Max L Merrill Yield and Agronomic Efficiency written by Godfred Ankomah and published by . This book was released on 2021 with total page 55 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Phosphorus (P) and zinc (Zn) are required for the growth and development of soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merrill). However, their interactions may affect the uptake of each nutrient and soybean growth, development, and yield. The objective of this research study was to identify possible interactions of P and Zn and determine the effect upon soybean nutrient status, yield, and agronomic efficiency. This study was conducted at the Illinois State University Farm at Lexington and Normal in 2020. The experimental design was a 4 x 4 factorial arranged in a randomized complete block design with four blocks at each location. Phosphorus was applied as mono-ammonium phosphate (MAP) at 0, 33, 67, 100 kg P ha-1 and zinc was applied as zinc sulfate (ZnSO4) at 0, 5, 11, 16 kg Zn ha-1. Fully developed trifoliate leaves from the top three nodes were collected at R2 and seed samples were taken at R6 for analysis of P and Zn. Phosphorus fertilization had no effect on the P concentration of leaves but increased the P concentration of the seeds. The P concentration of the seeds for the highest rate (100 kg P ha-1) was greater than the control (0 kg P ha-1) and the lowest P rate (33 kg P ha-1). Zinc application had no effect on Zn concentration of soybean leaves and seeds. Neither P nor Zn affected soybean yield components and yield. Phosphorus and zinc agronomic efficiency did not improve with P and Zn application, respectively. There was no soil P-Zn interaction that affected soybean growth and yield. However, there was a weak inverse correlation between leaf P concentration and seed Zn concentration (r = -0.43), and between leaf Zn concentration and seed P concentration (r = -0.30). This study revealed that soybean yield and agronomic efficiency do not respond positively to P and Zn application when the soil test indicates P and Zn are sufficient.

Book Plant Soil Interactions at Low pH Principles and Management

Download or read book Plant Soil Interactions at Low pH Principles and Management written by R.A. Date and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 765 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The understanding of plant-soil interactions in acid soils is important for improved food production in many parts of the world. The context of the book touches on basic and applied aspects of the physics, chemistry and biology of acid soils and their effect on growth of plants. It contains a large section on management of acid soils for plant (food) production and on socioeconomic aspects of management of acid soils. This is important because a large portion of the world's acid soils occurs in less developed countries. Plant-Soil Interactions at Low pH: Principles and Management contains a substantial number of papers, including nine invited reviews, presented at the Third International Symposium of Plant-Soil Interactions at Low pH. The major themes include chemistry and physics of acid soils, microbial and faunal activity in acid soils, mechanisms of acid tolerance of plants, selection and breeding of acid-tolerant plants, diagnosis and correction of acid soil infertility, socioeconomic aspects of acid soil management and management systems for agriculture, horticulture and forestry on acid soils.

Download or read book Plant Nutritional Genomics written by Martin R. Broadley and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2009-02-05 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A ‘textbook’ plant typically comprises about 85% waterand 13.5% carbohydrates. The remaining fraction contains at least14 mineral elements, without which plants would be unable tocomplete their life cycles. Understanding plant nutrition and applying this knowledge topractical use is important for several reasons. First, anunderstanding of plant nutrition allows fertilisers to be used morewisely. Second, the nutritional composition of crops must betailored to meet the health of humans and livestock. Third, manyregions of the world are currently unsuitable for crop production, and an understanding of plant nutrition can be used to developstrategies either for the remediation of this land or for thecultivation of novel crops. That application of knowledge of plant nutrition can be achievedthrough genotypic or agronomic approaches. Genotypic approaches, based on crop selection and / or breeding (conventional or GM),have recently begun to benefit from technological advances, including the completion of plant genome sequencing projects. Thisbook provides an overview of how plant nutritional genomics, defined as the interaction between a plant's genome and itsnutritional characteristics, has developed in the light ofthese technological advances, and how this new knowledge mightusefully be applied. This is a book for researchers and professionals in plantmolecular genetics, biochemistry and physiology, in both theacademic and industrial sectors.
