Book Little Elegies for Sister Satan

Download or read book Little Elegies for Sister Satan written by Michael Palmer and published by New Directions Publishing. This book was released on 2021-05-04 with total page 133 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shaped by the poet’s long view of history, these beautiful lamenting poems take sudden bracing plunges into close-up views of our apocalypse Little Elegies for Sister Satan presents indelibly beautiful new poems by Michael Palmer, “the foremost experimental poet of his generation, and perhaps of the last several generations” (citation for The Academy of American Poets’ Wallace Stevens Award). Grappling with our dark times and our inability to stop destroying the planet or to end our endless wars, Palmer offers a counterlight of wit (poetry was dead again / they said again), as well as the glow of wonder. In polyphonic passages, voices speak from a decentered place, yet are rooted in the whole history of culture that has gone before: “When I think of ‘possible worlds,’ I think not of philosophy, but of elegy. And impossible worlds. Resistant worlds.” In the light of day perhaps all of this will make sense. But have we come this far, come this close to death, just to make sense?

Book Speaking of Satan in Zambia

Download or read book Speaking of Satan in Zambia written by Johanneke Kroesbergen-Kamps and published by AOSIS. This book was released on 2023-03-01 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, it is argued that narratives about Satanism, which have become popular in the Christian context of Zambia from the 1990s onwards, make cultural sense because of their links to traditional African notions as well as contemporary Christian theologies. These narratives also resonate with unease regarding the cultural change, which is connected by Zambians to modernity. Narratives about Satanism further make personal sense to their narrators, the pastors who provide a platform for them, and their audiences. These arguments contribute to the academic study of religion in Africa, in particular of African Christianity and of witchcraft-related phenomena, as well as to the global study of discourses on Satanism and other conspiracy theories. All of these disciplines are related to the topic of Satanism in Zambia, but the phenomenon itself has not been discussed at length, which makes the existing academic literature incomplete and inadequate. The comprehensive focus on the case of narratives about Satanism in Zambia offers new insights and enhances current theoretical reflection. The research presented in this book is original, carried out during fieldwork spanning from 2012 to 2017 in Zambia and literature study in the years after that. Methodologically, the research is based on participant observation in churches in which testimonies of ex-Satanists were presented, as well as participation in the Fingers of Thomas, a Roman Catholic group which investigates rumours about Satanism. Furthermore, it is based on interviews with pastors and students of theology active in the deliverance ministry from Pentecostal as well as mainline churches and also on interviews with people who have had experiences of Satanism. Finally, the research is based on an analysis of collected testimonies of ex-Satanists as they were presented in these interviews, in churches, on radio programmes, in newspapers and in other sources.

Book Get Behind Me Satan

Download or read book Get Behind Me Satan written by Mike Yousif and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2009-04 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: John Christian, his family and circle of friends lived just a couple of weeks before the Rapture and didn't know it neither did Satan. The battle of ideas between the Spirit of truth and the spirit of falsehood raged to the limit. Angles and demons influenced the characters, through spiritual warfare, to choose between right and wrong. When the Rapture occurred, some of the characters, who walked the narrow path, graduated to the heavenly scene. While those who walked the wide path went to the underworld and awaited Judgment, or stayed behind to face the Tribulation. John and the Believers watched, from the balcony of Heaven, the fulfillment of the book of Revelation. In a Tribulation, seven years of a continuous Halloween on earth, Satan tricked people and didn't offer any treats. Meanwhile, in Heaven, the Believers went through the Jesus Rewards program, a Cosmic battle, a Wedding, and a Supper. Finally, the Great Tribulation ended when 666 ran into 777 at Armageddon. The three groups then lived out their new environments to one of two final destinations determined by which side they took, God or Satan. Those who were like wheat, ended up in Heaven. Those who were like tares, ended up in Hell. Find out who goes where. www.getbehindme-satan.com Mike Yousif, was born a Christian in Iraq. He immigrated to the US thirty years ago when he was a teenager. He received a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Michigan in 1985.
