Although the RCP existed for barely two decades, it left a curiously lasting impact on British politics, and its legacies have provoked bewilderment, suspicion, and animosity. Formed as the Revolutionary Communist Tendency in 1978, the RCP represented a distinct and often controversial offshoot of the Trotskyist left. Campaigning principally around 'unconditional support for Irish freedom' and anti-racism, RCP cadres expounded an independent revolutionary politics to supersede capitalism. In the 1990s, however, the RCP leadership ruefully declared that the working class had suffered an historic defeat, and the party dissolved in 1996. Combining wide-ranging archival research and twenty-four life-history interviews with former activists, Preparing for Power examines ideological continuity and change among the ex-RCP milieu. Book excerpt: Economists have written about economic expansion and contraction and/or the primary example of it, the Great Depression, as it has been an area of economic thought that seems to evade answers while tempting explanation. In this book the author offers both a descriptive and a quantitative approach which offers new perspectives. Similarities are found between the pre-depression years, and our current economic malaise. The presence of a housing boom and bust in both situations is attributed to individuals reaching home buying age. As this peak of home buying reaches its crest and ages beyond that time of life, a rapid decline in population occurs. This decline is followed by a housing crisis as the number of home buying individuals declines. Foreclosures follow as unemployment increases and incomes decline. Banks suffer as the amount of checkbook money (part of M2) declines. Government may or may not respond with an increase of central bank money (part of M2). Reserves decline if there is a decline of checkbook money or central bank money. Lack of reserves makes it such that banks cannot meet obligations to their customers and further tighten credit. Depositors lose faith in the banking system. The impact of this scenario becomes widespread. The question raised and addressed by Martin Feldstein (ed.) and contributing authors in The Risk of Economic Crisis (1991), should be answered with a resounding yes. We are in a time where the number of live births in the U.S. peaked in 1960 and was followed by a major decline in live births from 1961-1975. Some mistakenly term 1933-1960 as a baby boom. This was an increase in live births that began in 1933-1934. As this increase and decrease of live births passes through the U.S. economic system, it carries with it economic consequences. Now, we are living in a time that is an accident of our history.

Why is the director sponsoring psychopaths counseling psychopaths? In fact, TDCJ pays $314 million a year to UTMB for psychiatric care and receives not a single report of the care given, and worse, for UTMB generates no reports itself. The underbelly TDCJ’s executive culture of cover up is exposed. TDCJ has hired the lowest qualified of the applicant pool many times in the last 25 years and regularly destroys statistics on violence. TDCJ Dir. Collier led the prison to model Louisiana Warden Burl Cain, the most scandal-ridden in penal history according to a host of published news stories for 20 years. Therein, Collier led TDCJ to favor the smallest segment of religious society within Evangelical Dominionism. Texas has no business endorsing the truth of any religion over another. We close with a proposal that utilizes the 400,000,000 hours of officer contact over ten years as a definitive influence in contrast to a commissioner that spends less than 10 minutes on each decision. Maness has been lobbying Austin for 15 years to definitively access staff for his “100,000 Mothers’ 1% Certainty Parole Texas Constitutional Amendment,” which would revolutionize prison culture and save Texans millions of the dollars.
