Book Ship Navigation Simulation Study Brunswick Harbor Georgia

Download or read book Ship Navigation Simulation Study Brunswick Harbor Georgia written by C. J. Huval and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Savannah District requested a navigation simulation study of Brunswick Harbor to determine both channel and bend widening requirements throughout the channel based on, primarily, real-time simulator experiments with the design ships, and the best design and placement of the East River turning basin. Navigation conditions (existing and proposed) were conducted using real-time piloted ship simulation experiments. A field data collection verified and adjusted a numerical hydrodynamic model of the tidal currents and the tidal sound and river system; and a hydrodynamic model of the existing and plan conditions was developed and adjusted based on field data. Also, two hydrodynamic models of design ships (a car-carrier for analyzing the South Brunswick Channel leading to the existing Colonels Island car facility, and a bulk carrier for analyzing the East River channel and turning basin) for experimenting due to the different navigation concerns associated with each ship type were developed. Channel deepening in Turtle River above the Brunswick and South Brunswick Rivers junction was not included in the study.

Book Navigation Study for Savannah Harbor Channel Improvements

Download or read book Navigation Study for Savannah Harbor Channel Improvements written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Savannah Harbor is located on the eastern shore of the state of Georgia. The harbor is being evaluated for deepening and widening. The purpose of the proposed improvements is to accommodate larger, deep-draft containerships to use the port. The widening is being considered to provide additional room for two-way traffic. To evaluate these improvements a real-time ship simulation study was undertaken. Simulation models were developed for both Savannah's present and future conditions. Pilots from Savannah Harbor operated the simulator as they would in real-life. Eased upon these simulations, a final improved channel was developed.

Book Ship Navigation Simulation Study Alafia River Tampa Bay Florida

Download or read book Ship Navigation Simulation Study Alafia River Tampa Bay Florida written by and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A real time ship simulation investigation of the proposed design for deepening and widening the Alafia River Channel and turning basin, Tampa Bay, Florida, was conducted. Existing and proposed channel depths are 30 ft and 41 ft, respectively. The purpose of the study was to determine effects of proposed improvements on navigation with larger design ships and to assist in optimizing channel width and turning basin configuration required to efficiently navigate the study area. A numerical model of the existing channel from Hillsborough Bay Channel Cut C to the harbor area was developed. The model was verified by two members of the Tampa Bay Pilots Association. Numerical models of two plans were also developed. The investigation was conducted in Vicksburg, MS, on the U.S. Army Engineer Waterways Experiment Station ship simulator.

Book Ship Navigation Simulation Study Jacksonville Harbor St Johns River Florida Volume 1 Main Text and Appendix A

Download or read book Ship Navigation Simulation Study Jacksonville Harbor St Johns River Florida Volume 1 Main Text and Appendix A written by and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ship simulation study of St. Johns River, Jacksonville, Florida, included channel reaches from the outer entrance channel at the sea buoy to downtown Jacksonville, approximately 30 nautical miles. The study was performed to determine the effects of deepening the navigation channel from -38 ft msl to 42 ft msl. The proposed dredging would maintain the existing bank lines and bank slopes, extending the existing bank slope down to the deeper channel bottom, effectively reducing the channel width from 24 to 40 ft dependent on the bank slope. The initial plans examined were to deepen the entire channel without any widening and to deepen and widen the entire channeL Preliminary investigations conducted with pilots from the St Johns Pilots Association indicated that the unwidened channel would not seriously impact navigation, except for two away traffic. A third plan was developed that widened and deepened the channel reaches east of the Dames Point Bridge and only deepened the reaches west of the bridge, along with some realignments of reaches both east and west of the bridge. This plan, Plan C, was found to provide generally improved navigation as compared with the existing conditions.

This book was released on 1990 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A real-time ship simulation investigation of the proposed design for deepening the man-made canal portion of the channel, was conducted. The purpose was to determine if the navigation channel could be deepened from 30 to 35 ft without widening from the existing channel width of 200 ft or if the channel would require widening to 250 ft. A numeric model of the existing ship channel from about channel mile 35 to the Sacramento Harbor was developed. Numeric models of two plan conditions were also developed, one with existing channel deepened to 35 ft and the other with the channel widened by 50 ft and deepened to 35 ft. In both plans the two bends were widened by 50 ft. Tests were run on the WES ship simulator in which six pilots conned the simulation ship through the three simulated channel conditions. (MM).

Book Ship Navigation Simulation Study Southwest Pass Entrance Mississippi River

Download or read book Ship Navigation Simulation Study Southwest Pass Entrance Mississippi River written by Carl J. Huval and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Southwest Pass, Mississippi River, is the main deep-draft navigational entrance into the Mississippi River and provides ocean access to many terminals servicing the industries along the lower river. The pre-project channel was authorized at 600 ft wide and 40 ft deep, and proposed to be deepened to 45 ft to accommodate greater inbound tanker ships and outbound bulk grain carriers. The purpose of the navigation ship simulation study was to determine the required channel width in the Southwest Pass to provide safe and efficient ship navigation, consistent with the minimum width to reduce dredging. The then-existing channel was simulated and the results compared with several alternate channel widths. The study included Mississippi River flows: a high of 1,300,000 cfs and a low of 640,000 cfs to bracket the normally expected range of velocities. Current velocities were developed using the TABS modeling systems. Only the entrance area of the Southwest Pass region was studied. Pilots participated in the simulation validation and formal pilot testing of the channel alternatives. Tankers were used in the existing channel and in the proposed deepened entrance channel. Test results for all piloted simulations were analyzed and included ship track plots and statistical analysis of key ship control parameters. The simulation test results showed that the larger design ship will be able to safely navigate through the Southwest Pass entrance into the Mississippi River. Based on the study, it was recommended that the entrance channel width be increased from 600 ft to 700 ft for a short distance of about 3,000 ft on the western edge of the entrance channel.
