Book Data Exploration Using Example Based Methods

Download or read book Data Exploration Using Example Based Methods written by Matteo Lissandrini and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-06-01 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Data usually comes in a plethora of formats and dimensions, rendering the exploration and information extraction processes challenging. Thus, being able to perform exploratory analyses in the data with the intent of having an immediate glimpse on some of the data properties is becoming crucial. Exploratory analyses should be simple enough to avoid complicate declarative languages (such as SQL) and mechanisms, and at the same time retain the flexibility and expressiveness of such languages. Recently, we have witnessed a rediscovery of the so-called example-based methods, in which the user, or the analyst, circumvents query languages by using examples as input. An example is a representative of the intended results, or in other words, an item from the result set. Example-based methods exploit inherent characteristics of the data to infer the results that the user has in mind, but may not able to (easily) express. They can be useful in cases where a user is looking for information in an unfamiliar dataset, when the task is particularly challenging like finding duplicate items, or simply when they are exploring the data. In this book, we present an excursus over the main methods for exploratory analysis, with a particular focus on example-based methods. We show how that different data types require different techniques, and present algorithms that are specifically designed for relational, textual, and graph data. The book presents also the challenges and the new frontiers of machine learning in online settings which recently attracted the attention of the database community. The lecture concludes with a vision for further research and applications in this area.

Book The Book of Exploration

Download or read book The Book of Exploration written by Raymond John Howgego and published by Bloomsbury Publishing PLC. This book was released on 2009-10-27 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Book of Exploration is a chronological tour of the history of exploration by an expert in the field and prolific world traveller, from the pioneering excursions of the ancient Egyptians to the first surface-based crossings of the top and bottom of the world." "Before the turn of the nineteenth century, ventures into uncharted lands required material or spiritual reward to justify the perils of shipwreck, hostile natives, and dangers yet unknown. Until recent times, exploration for the sake of knowledge alone was rare; it was mostly undertaken by intrepid traders, gold. seekers, and valiant Christian missionaries. The Book of Exploration presents more than 150 of the most influential and unusual journeys of discovery, setting each firmly in its historical context. Roy Howgego introduces heroic adventurers battling the elements and committing their findings to journals and maps, pioneers who risked everything in search of fabled riches, and explorers determined to conquer the deserts, poles, and oceans of the globe." "Organized chronologically, beautifully illustrated with contemporary maps, paintings, journal entries, and other artifacts, The Book of Exploration is a feast for the eye and an unparalleled resource." --Book Jacket.

Book Colonial Trauma

Download or read book Colonial Trauma written by Karima Lazali and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2021-01-22 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Colonial Trauma is a path-breaking account of the psychosocial effects of colonial domination. Following the work of Frantz Fanon, Lazali draws on historical materials as well as her own clinical experience as a psychoanalyst to shed new light on the ways in which the history of colonization leaves its traces on contemporary postcolonial selves. Lazali found that many of her patients experienced difficulties that can only be explained as the effects of “colonial trauma” dating from the French colonization of Algeria and the postcolonial period. Many French feel weighed down by a colonial history that they are aware of but which they have not experienced directly. Many Algerians are traumatized by the way that the French colonial state imposed new names on people and the land, thereby severing the links with community, history, and genealogy and contributing to feelings of loss, abandonment, and injustice. Only by reconstructing this history and uncovering its consequences can we understand the impact of colonization and give individuals the tools to come to terms with their past. By demonstrating the power of psychoanalysis to illuminate the subjective dimension of colonial domination, this book will be of great interest to anyone concerned with the long-term consequences of colonization and its aftermath.

Book The Modern Yogi s Guide To Self Exploration A Creative Journey Through The 7 Chakra System

Download or read book The Modern Yogi s Guide To Self Exploration A Creative Journey Through The 7 Chakra System written by Ely Bakouche and published by Shut Up & Yoga. This book was released on 2021-05-01 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a collection of reflections, prompts, tools, and practical exercises to support your self-discovery, mental, emotional, physical well-being and healing in a sustainable way. What You'll Find Inside: ✔ An introduction to the myths in our modern understanding of the chakra system and alternative ways of thinking ✔ 7 chapters based on the ancient wisdom of the chakras to anchor your reflections and healing in various topics like emotional awareness, confidence, or belonging ✔ Everyday challenges & exercises to widen your understanding of your yoga practice and integrate seamlessly into your daily life ✔ Illustrations by artist Katya Uspenkaya Author's Note From a very early age, I’ve felt like the world was spinning too fast. I was always playing catchup and going against my inner, natural pace. Yoga for me became a way to connect with my intuitive rhythm. It has taught me again and again about what it means to simply be, with myself and with the world around me. After a while, I started wondering if I could stay as present in everyday challenges and happenings as I was when I was moving and breathing in my asana practice. I’d started on a yoga mat but my practice never felt quite powerful enough to infiltrate all areas of my life. Why was it so difficult to say no to things I didn’t want to do when I’d been learning about that in my physical practice? Why would I not let myself “flow” in my creative projects as much as my breath during meditation? This book is part of my journey of discovering how yoga can truly be a practice of every day, every hour, every minute. It is a collection of my attempts at putting together building blocks of awareness, so I always find pockets of connection whether I’m sitting on a loud train, cooking a meal, or deep into my email inbox. I hope you find comfort and ways to cultivate confidence through these pages. May the reflections and practice build the freedom and intuition you need to let the wonderful practice of yoga take the shape it needs to serve you and your communities. With love and curiosity, Ely
