Book They Fought in Colour La Guerre en couleur

Download or read book They Fought in Colour La Guerre en couleur written by The Vimy Foundation and published by Dundurn. This book was released on 2018-10-06 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Iconic photos from the First World War, newly colourized. See seminal images of Canada’s First World War experience in a new light — offered in full colour for the first time — with contributions from Margaret Atwood, Tim, Cook, Charlotte Gray, Paul Gross, Peter Mansbridge, and many others. Canadians today see the First World War largely through black and white photography. Colourizing these images brings a new focus to our understanding and appreciation of the role Canada played during the First World War. It makes the soldier in the muddy trench, the nurse in the field hospital, and those who waited for them at home come to life. Immediately, their expressions, mannerisms, and feelings are familiar. They become real. They Fought in Colour is a new look at Canada’s experience during the Great War. A more accessible look. A more contemporary look.

Book excerpt: Europe is a continent weighed down by the shadows of its past, its wars, the traditional enmities, the suspicions of neighbours fuelled by historical memories. This has immediate consequences for the understanding and representation of the past: journalists, politicians, historians often apply simplistic, pre-conceived patterns, i.e., myths, to current events, resulting in distorted and misleading analyses. This volume exposes the way some historical myths, such as Balance of Power, Rapallo, the Special Relationship, the Franco-German Couple, the Peril of Islam, are used to blur, not to clarify our understanding of international affairs, even to manipulate contemporary politics.

Book excerpt: Rudy Ricciotti was born in 1952 in Algier. He studied in Geneva and Marseilles before opening his own architectural office in Bandol (Bouches-du-Rhone) in 1980. His early works are characterized by a radical, carefree approach, displaying a variety of forms and full of energy. Since the beginning of the 1990s Ricciotti has been influenced by the Arte Povera and his buildings have become more austere and functional, making use of minimalist and "lowtech" solutions. With the opening of the concert hall in Potsdam, and the construction of a foot bridge in Seoul, Ricciotti has finally found international recognition. Our publication is a detailed yet critical analysis of his work to date. The first monograph on the work of Rudy Ricciotti whose architecture is extravagant yet radiates Mediterranean simplicity, is powerfully expressive yet gently ironic.

Download or read book La Reconstruction en Europe Apr s la Premi re Et la Seconde Guerre Mondiale Et Le R le de la Conservation Des Monuments Historiques written by Nicholas Bullock and published by Leuven University Press. This book was released on 2011 with total page 393 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Living with History focuses on a particular aspect of heritage preservation in the twentieth century: destruction and postwar reconstruction in Belgium, France, Germany, Great Britain, and The Netherlands. This book establishes a status quaestionis for the historiography of wartime and postwar preservation, and sets these particular developments in preservation history in the context of the general evolution of architecture and urbanism. The authors investigate the specific role of conservationists and heritage institutions and administrations in the overall reconstruction and examine the part played by architects and planners in heritage preservation.

Download or read book Fa onn par la Haine l Exclusion et le Racisme written by Tarcisse Ruhamyandekwe and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2024-05-08 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book The Royal Hungarian Army in World War II

Download or read book The Royal Hungarian Army in World War II written by Nigel Thomas and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2012-01-20 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Royal Hungarian Army was Germany's largest ally on the Eastern Front, but information about the Hungarian Army in English is rare. Deployed in Ukraine at the beginning of the war, the Hungarian Army was involved in a number of brutal encounters with the Red Army, including stubborn resistance in Transylvania in the summer of 1944, and the brave defense of Budapest in the face of overwhelming odds. The Hungarian Army was a varied and colourful force, ranging from mountain troops and tank units to horse cavalry and specialist infantry. All of these are illustrated in full-colour artwork, with full details about the Hungarian Army's own, quite distinct uniforms and insignia as well as many of its own weapons and tanks. This is an essential starter resource for wargamers, modelers, re-enactors and military historians.
