Book The Adventures of Sebastian the Fox

Download or read book The Adventures of Sebastian the Fox written by Kay Dreyfus and published by 3feet publishing. This book was released on 2020-07-22 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a snapshot pictorial performance history of what is possibly George Dreyfus's most frequently played composition, "The Adventures of Sebastian the Fox". The music first appeared in 1963 as accompaniment to Tim Burstall's 13-episode children's television series, for which Dreyfus wrote some 120 minutes of music. In 1968 he made a suite consisting of eight of the main musical pieces which he subsequently arranged for a dozen different ensembles, many of which have been recorded. The movements of the Suite are connected by short descriptive narrations, particularly suitable for children. These exist in English, German, Chinese, Russian, Hebrew and Yiddish, indicating the performances the Suite has had throughout the world, within Australia, throughout Europe, and from China to Paraguay. Dreyfus (a bassoon player) has personally used the Suite over the 60 years since it was created as a vehicle for making music with and for young people in a variety of educational situations: in metropolitan, regional and outback Australia, on tours and in residencies in Europe and China. In 2005, Dreyfus and his composer son Jonathan created arrangements, for small ensemble, of the music for four episodes of the original TV series, which were then performed 'live' to film to youth theatre audiences and school groups throughout Australia, in Germany and in Switzerland."The Adventures of Sebastian the Fox" has represented Australian music in many countries, has brought enjoyment to hundreds (if not thousands) of listeners, appeals across generations, and has proved uniquely durable. The photographs capture a selection of many different performance situations. They are at once a celebration of music making and a tribute to the joyous, democratic resourcefulness of the composer.

Book excerpt: A rich new tapestry of worlds from the acclaimed author of the Black Jewels trilogy. Long ago, in a time that has faded from memory, a mother's tears forged the bridge that, ever after, connected the power of the living, ever-changing world to the human heart. A story set in the world of Ephemera, in which the link between the land and the human heart is unbreakable, and the world is nothing more or less than a reflection of the people's fears and desires. Once, the Eater of the World caused great destruction and horror until it was able to be contained; now that horror is about to be unleashed again. And those who create the landscapes may not be strong enough to resist the evil. Sebastian lives in the Den of Iniquity, a town for demons created by the most famous landscaper of all, Glorianna Belladonna. Sebastian is restless and yearning for more in his life, but until he comes to terms with his father's hate and with his own latent powers, Sebastian will be of no use to anyone. An emotionally powerful story about the difference between the heart's truth and one's expressed desires - sometimes the outcome of this difference is not at all what we want ...

Book excerpt: This is the story of a little boy named, Little Sebastien, who learned how to overcome challenges and obstacles. He loves to read and listens well, not because he is smarter than other children, but because of a poem his Kindergarten teacher taught him. He was fascinated with words and tried to understand what every word meant. He loved problem-solving, and everything to him was an adventure that helped him think objectively. He is a legend in his little mind and loves to go on adventures. He learned to think things through thoroughly before doing them. Sebastian used the poem that his teacher taught him called, look, listen, and you will learn, as his little guide book where he finds it to ring true and therefore does his best to apply it in everything he does, like his daily chores at home, in school and even while at play. It teaches kids to be respectful to parents and teachers alike. Everyone who meets him realizes that is a special kid, and they want to get to know him because of the way he thinks. Come with him on his little adventures and see what you will learn. I promise you that you will learn a thing or two that will help you become all that you can be as a kid.

Winner of three 2020 International Photography Awards and named Photographer of the Year from the Tokyo International Awards, explorer Sebastian Copeland's stunning photography delivers unparalleled access to the least explored continent on Earth and galvanizes our awareness of the threats of global warming. Antarctica's ice sheet is a powerful entity, alive and dynamic. It is up to three million years old; its mass is constantly and imperceptibly moving, finally calving to the sea. Deep in the heart of the continent is a barren desert of snow, while the coast teems with life: the dominion of whales, birds, penguins, and seals, which had previously evolved outside of human contact. Until recently, scientists thought Antarctica had remained mostly untouched by climate change. But now they have warned that the ice is indeed melting-- and quickly. "My research there gave me a deeper perspective of the subtle variations taking place at the hands of climate change," says Copeland. "The images I bring back tell the story of a changing envi- ronment that spells the oncoming redrawing of the world's map, and all that it implicates."
