Book Practical School Gardening

Download or read book Practical School Gardening written by Percy Elford and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-02 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Practical School Gardening It has been a difficulty experienced by all interested in School Gardening to supply the information to the teachers of the subject who, although often expert practical gardeners, yet require information which is not obtainable in any one book we have been able to discover, except in manuals of large size and whose cost makes it impossible to obtain them. It was in the hope of meeting this difficulty that we undertook the production of this book; and the book, although written primarily for Elementary School Teachers, has been written in such simple language, and every operation has been so explained that it may be placed in the hands of the older boys, and will, it is thought, prove suitable as a book which may be given as a reward to boys leaving school. Professional gardeners will find in it information which is not usually at their disposal and which should prove of value to them. The School Garden Note Book which has recently been published by the Oxford University Press, is intended to be used by every boy receiving instruction in School Gardening under such a scheme as we have indicated in the book. Every effort has been made to ensure the correctness of the information and the advice and assistance of experts in the different branches has been sought. Book Our School Garden

Download or read book Our School Garden written by Rick Swann and published by Readers to Eaters. This book was released on 2018-04 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New city. New school. Michael is feeling all alone--until he discovers the school garden! There's so many ways to learn, and so much work to do. Taste a leaf? Mmm, nice and tangy hot. Dig for bugs? "Roly-poly!" he yells. But the garden is much more than activities outdoors: making school garden stone soup, writing Found Poems and solving garden riddles, getting involved in community projects such as Harvest Day, food bank donations, and spring plant sales. Each season creates a new way to learn, explore and make friends. School librarian and gardener Rick Swann, in his picture book debut, describes the wonder of connecting with nature and the joy of growing and eating one's own harvest. Award-winning artist Christy Hale (Dreaming Up, Elizabeti's Doll series) captures the brilliant color of the season and the harvest. This is the perfect book to read alone, as well as share in the classroom or with the entire family. Good read for the young gardener. Winner of the Growing Good Kids Book Award from Junior Master Gardener Program and American Horticultural Society, named Food Tanks' "15 Book for Future Foodies," and the Whole Kids Foundation Book Club selection in 2016.

Book The Book of Gardening Projects for Kids

Download or read book The Book of Gardening Projects for Kids written by Whitney Cohen and published by Timber Press. This book was released on 2012-05-29 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “What better way to begin to explore the natural world than to experience the magic and beauty of a family garden.” —Arden Bucklin-Sporer, author of How to Grow a School Garden Many gardeners find that once they have children gardening goes the way of late-night dinner parties and Sunday morning sleep-ins. Raising kids and maintaining a garden can be a juggling act, leaving the family garden forgotten and neglected. But kids can make great gardening companions, and the benefits of including them are impossible to ignore. Gardening gets kids outdoors and away from television and video games, increases their connection to plants and animals, and helps build enthusiasm for fresh fruits and vegetables. Their involvement becomes the real harvest of a family garden. In The Book of Gardening Projects for Kids, Whitney Cohen and John Fisher draw on years of experience in the Life Lab Garden Classroom and gardening with their own children to teach parents how to integrate the garden into their family life, no matter its scope or scale. The book features simple, practical gardening advice, including how to design a play-friendly garden, ideas for fun-filled theme gardens, and how to cook and preserve the garden's bounty. 101 engaging, family-friendly garden activities are also featured, from making Crunch-n-Munch Vegetable Beds and Muddy Miniature Masterpieces to harvesting berries for Fresh Fruity Pops.
