Book Energy Efficient Driving of Road Vehicles

Download or read book Energy Efficient Driving of Road Vehicles written by Antonio Sciarretta and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-08-01 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book elaborates the science and engineering basis for energy-efficient driving in conventional and autonomous cars. After covering the physics of energy-efficient motion in conventional, hybrid, and electric powertrains, the book chiefly focuses on the energy-saving potential of connected and automated vehicles. It reveals how being connected to other vehicles and the infrastructure enables the anticipation of upcoming driving-relevant factors, e.g. hills, curves, slow traffic, state of traffic signals, and movements of nearby vehicles. In turn, automation allows vehicles to adjust their motion more precisely in anticipation of upcoming events, and to save energy. Lastly, the energy-efficient motion of connected and automated vehicles could have a harmonizing effect on mixed traffic, leading to additional energy savings for neighboring vehicles. Building on classical methods of powertrain modeling, optimization, and optimal control, the book further develops the theory of energy-efficient driving. In addition, it presents numerous theoretical and applied case studies that highlight the real-world implications of the theory developed. The book is chiefly intended for undergraduate and graduate engineering students and industry practitioners with a background in mechanical, electrical, or automotive engineering, computer science or robotics.

Book Real Prospects for Energy Efficiency in the United States

Download or read book Real Prospects for Energy Efficiency in the United States written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2010-06-10 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: America's economy and lifestyles have been shaped by the low prices and availability of energy. In the last decade, however, the prices of oil, natural gas, and coal have increased dramatically, leaving consumers and the industrial and service sectors looking for ways to reduce energy use. To achieve greater energy efficiency, we need technology, more informed consumers and producers, and investments in more energy-efficient industrial processes, businesses, residences, and transportation. As part of the America's Energy Future project, Real Prospects for Energy Efficiency in the United States examines the potential for reducing energy demand through improving efficiency by using existing technologies, technologies developed but not yet utilized widely, and prospective technologies. The book evaluates technologies based on their estimated times to initial commercial deployment, and provides an analysis of costs, barriers, and research needs. This quantitative characterization of technologies will guide policy makers toward planning the future of energy use in America. This book will also have much to offer to industry leaders, investors, environmentalists, and others looking for a practical diagnosis of energy efficiency possibilities.

Book A Light Guide to Energy Savings in Transport

Download or read book A Light Guide to Energy Savings in Transport written by Conor Molloy and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2023-05-10 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a practical guide to finding and delivering energy savings opportunities in transport operations for professional energy managers and energy auditors. Globally, transport is one of the fastest growing energy consumers and emitters of greenhouse gases, predominantly CO2. The transport sector is also changing quickly ("more change in the last 5 years than in the last 50" – Mary Barra, CEO General Motors). After distance, unladen vehicle weight is the biggest driver of energy consumption in transport, hence this book is called the ‘light’ guide – tongue in cheek. Be warned transport is a huge and complex topic. This practical guide from the convener of EN16247-4:2014, the first European energy audit standard for transport, takes a pragmatic approach to delivering measurable energy and emissions reductions in transport operations. Lessons learnt from the author’s 17 years of experience in persuading operators to deliver measured energy savings in transport are interwoven with tools, tips and shortcuts. These will help energy managers and auditors deliver effective transport energy audits that identify opportunities, prompting action, measured savings and, most importantly, being invited back!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Did you know that energy consumption by humans has increased by at least 30,000 times in the last 5000 years? In Delhi alone, there are over 80,000 trucks that run on the city roads every night. They emit un-burnt fossil fuels from their exhausts. Isn’t it terrifying that over 1 million seabirds and 100,000 sea mammals are killed by pollution every year? Why Should I Save Energy? is a comprehensive book that will introduce children to different forms of energy, history of fossil fuels, great scientists and their inventions, and more importantly, to the problems our planet faces with depletion of natural resources. Filled with eye-opening facts, beautiful pictures, multiple activities, and a quiz that helps reinforce learning; this book is the perfect guide to help you become an energy saver. Table of Contents • Energy Here, Today, Tomorrow, and Forever • Made Yesterday, Here Today, Gone Tomorrow? • Effects of Pollution on Our Environment • History of Fossil Fuels • Save Energy, Save the Future • Smog • Climate Change Calamity • The Planet Needs You To Change • Recycling to Save Energy • Exploring Alternate Renewable Sources of Energy • Activity 1 • Activity 2 • Activity 3 • Quiz • Glossary Other books in this series: Why Should I Eat Healthy: A-Z of Food and Nutrition Guide (ISBN: 9789386530035) Why Should I Protect Nature?: A smart kid’s guide to a green world (ISBN: 9788179936627) Why Should I Recycle?
