Book LGBT Populations and Cancer in the Global Context

Download or read book LGBT Populations and Cancer in the Global Context written by Ulrike Boehmer and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-08-21 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) also known as sexual and gender minority (SGM) populations have been the focus of global attention. Most importantly, LGBT populations have been addressed in the context of human rights in multiple reports and other activities by the United Nations and other international organizations. There is great variation among countries in the recognition of LGBT individuals’ human rights. A global focus on LGBT populations’ health is still limited, with the notable exception of HIV research. This book on LGBT populations and cancer in the global context is, therefore, an important step in that it will broaden the focus on LGBT populations’ health. Globally, cancer is the second leading cause of death. Cancer morbidity and mortality are increasing disproportionately among populations in lower-income countries. A review conducted by the World Health Organization (WHO) found that of the 82% of member states (158) countries, only 35% of the national cancer control plans addresses vulnerable population, including LGBT populations. These findings reflect an increasing awareness about equity when addressing cancer prevention and control, including LGBT populations. This book addresses LGBT populations’ cancer burden across countries that range from high- to low-income countries to support efforts in diverse countries that are working towards reducing LGBT populations’ cancer burden. It documents place-specific challenges that impede progress towards reducing the LGBT cancer burden as well as critically assesses the variation in cancer control efforts that target LGBT populations and cancer to support progress at a global scale. This book includes six sections that cover the six WHO regions, with each chapter written by an author from the specific region s/he is covering. Each chapter makes use of a template that contextualizes the region, local data collection/availability, risk factors, cancer prevention, detection, diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship.

Book Gender and HIV AIDS

Download or read book Gender and HIV AIDS written by Nana K. Poku and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-04-15 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gender issues are central to the causes and impact of the ongoing AIDS epidemic. The editors bring together cutting edge contemporary scholarship on gender and AIDS in one volume. They address questions related to gender and sexuality, how women and men live the epidemic differently and how such differences lead to different outcomes. The volume joins research on Africa, Asia and Latin America and illustrates how the epidemic has different gendered characteristics, causes and consequences in different regions. Collectively, the chapters demonstrate the fundamental ways that gender influences the spread of the disease, its impact and the success of prevention efforts. This scholarly, interdisciplinary volume provides a comprehensive introduction to the themes and issues of gender, AIDS and global public health and informs students, policy makers and practitioners of the complexity of the gendered nature of AIDS.

Book Policies and Strategies in Sexual and Reproductive Health

Download or read book Policies and Strategies in Sexual and Reproductive Health written by Juan Miguel Martínez Galiano and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2021-05-11 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The topics covered in the book cover different aspects of sexual and reproductive health. This book provides novel research results that may be essential as a basis for the development of health policies and strategies in sexual and reproductive health. These policies are necessary to achieve greater health protection. Among others, issues as important as the increase in STIs, their risk factors, vulnerable situations and populations, as well as the issue of priority in reproductive health, such as the care that must be provided during pregnancy and childbirth in order to guarantee healthy women and children, are developed in the book. There is no doubt that women should be the preferential recipients of these health policies and strategies and, therefore, pathologies that have an impact on their quality of life as well as the situations of gender violence that these women experience also occupy a place within the content of this book. In this book, you can find interesting results allowing researchers to take into account in proposing new lines of research, students and academics to receive and transmit the most current and relevant knowledge, political leaders to develop adequate and efficient health policies and strategies, and clinical health professionals to work in clinical practice with the best available scientific evidence.

Book El VIH SIDA en pa ses de Am rica Latina Los retos futuros

Download or read book El VIH SIDA en pa ses de Am rica Latina Los retos futuros written by Pan American Health Organization and published by Pan American Health Org. This book was released on 2004-06 with total page 355 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Men Who Sell Sex

Download or read book Men Who Sell Sex written by Peter Aggleton and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-11-13 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All over the world, men as well as women exchange sex for money and other forms of reward, sometimes with other men and sometimes with women. In contrast to female prostitution, however, relatively little is known about male sex work, leaving questions unanswered about the individuals involved: their identities and self-understandings, the practices concerned, and the contexts in which they take place. This book updates the ground-breaking 1998 volume of the same name with an entirely new selection of chapters exploring health, social, political, economic and human rights issues in relation to men who sell sex. Looking at Europe, North America, Latin America and the Caribbean, Africa and the Asia-Pacific, each chapter explores questions such as: What is known about the different ways in which men exchange sex for money or other forms of reward? What are the major contexts in which sexual exchange takes place? What meanings do such practices carry for the different partners involved? What are the health and other implications of contemporary forms of male sex work? Men Who Sell Sex seeks to push the boundaries both of current personal and social understandings and the practices to which these give rise. It is an important reference work for academics and researchers interested in sex work and men’s health including those working in public health, sociology, social work, anthropology, human geography and development studies.
