Book excerpt: They're frenemies but have to get married to save the ranch from ruin. After a recent breakup leaves Amelia Ames with suspicions about her ex, she doubles down on documenting the history of her small town of Smuggler's Springs. However, when her high school crush crosses her radar, she finds herself distracted. When Parker Ritchie loses his father, he's devastated, but he's also confused about the stipulation in the will that he get married. His bigger concern is losing the ranch. That is until the girl who got away pops back into his life. When a double date goes wrong, Amelia is in a position to help Parker save legendary Ritchie Ranch, but only if they tie the knot. Questions about who is behind the rash of vandalism on the property and a tragedy in the past threaten to keep them apart. Will Amelia and Parker's marriage of convenience be exposed or turn into a happily ever after? This is book 1 in the Richie Ranch Clean Cowboy Romance series. Because of a mystery subplot, the first three books are best read in order for a deeper, richer experience. It is a sweet, small-town, cowboy "clean and wholesome" romance that's Christian faith-friendly without swearing or mature content and contains a happily ever after.

With their two pals, Jeff and Jam, and their two horses, Chum and Trusty, they are forever finding pranks to play on their mother’s ranch. They tease the good-natured cowboys and plan excursions to a secret place in the canyons that only they know of. They are not only capable of fun, however. As they grow into young manhood they can and do work as hard as the hired hands. They hunt and they fish, but most of all, they ride. They tackle almost every creature imaginable on their vast California ranch. Their way of life is their passion. When it comes to true American honesty, blood and guts, and the right to defend and protect what is theirs, no one beats the Lyreil boys. They may be young teenagers and full of spirit, but they have a code of honor they follow that neither threats nor bullets can pierce. Between humorous exploits of good clean fun, the young cowboys know what it means to work hard and face in the duties of every day life the real possibility of sudden and violent death. Whether it’s branding the cattle or facing down rank ranch bulls, ridding the earth of venomous reptiles or tracking down rustlers, the Lyreil boys get the job done. No matter what the cost.

Sharp-shooting adventure from the greatest Western writers of the 21st century. Young Matt Bodine and Sam Two Wolves became blood brothers on the day the rancher’s son saved the warrior’s life, forging a bond no one could ever break. And as years passed, a legend grew of the Cheyenne and the white man who rode together—and who could jerk killing iron with the best of them . . . A Hundred Ways to Kill Heading west to San Diego some honest pilgrims pay good money to keep their wagon train safe, but their guards soon turn against their charges and head off to Mexico with six young girls captive. When word reaches Tombstone—where Matt Bodine and Sam Two Wolves are wearing out their welcome gambling with Wyatt Earp—they know they have to do something about it. But it’s going to take more than their bravery and shooting skills to rescue those girls from the merciless white slavers. On the way to Mexico, Matt and Sam ride into a war party of Apaches. They’ll be facing outlaws and furious Apaches at the same time. For two blood brothers, the idea is to rescue those girls and blast their way North to freedom—no matter how many bullets it takes, or how many guns are shooting back . . . Download or read book The Cowboy written by Blake Allmendinger and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 1992 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What are the connections between cattle branding and Christian salvation, between livestock castration and square dancing, between rustling and the making of spurs and horsehair bridles in prison, between children's coloring books and cowboy poetry as it is practiced today? The Cowboy usesliterary, historical, folkloric, and pop cultural sources to document ways in which cowboys address religion, gender, economics, and literature. Arguing that cowboys are defined by the work they do, Allmendinger sets out in each chapter to investigate one form of labor (such as branding, castration,or rustling) that cowboys perform in their "work culture." He then looks at early oral poems that cowboys recited around campfires, on trail drives, at roundups, and at home in their bunkhouses, and at later poems, histories and autobiographies written by cowboys--most of which have never beforebeen studied by scholars. He discovers that these texts not only deal with work but with larger concerns, including art, morality, spirituality, and male sexuality. In addition to spotlighting little-known texts, art, and archival sources, The Cowboy examines the works of Twain, Steinbeck, Cather,Norris, Dana, McMurtry, and others, and features more than 60 historic photographs, many of which have not been published until now.

Book The Rustle of Donald Cooley s Bull

Download or read book The Rustle of Donald Cooley s Bull written by Terry Dressler and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2018-04-23 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reuben Cox is on the cusp of adolescence and living an idyllic life on his family's horse farm in Kentucky, receiving a classical education from his tutor and learning about the horse-raising business, martial skills expected of a man, and the responsibilities of duty and honor from his stern but loving father. Through her example, his mother provides for the growth of his heart and conscience. Suddenly, the outbreak of the Civil War bursts this idyll to pieces, and as a young teen, Reuben finds himself riding with Quantrill's raiders. Despite his youth, Reuben becomes skilled and efficient at the violent duties of war, but at the war's end, he is unable to return to his former life. Among many of the young male diaspora from the South, he seeks his fortune in the post-war Texas cattle industry. In Texas, he finds himself caught up in another battle, a range war between two wealthy cattle barons. Even more so than the Civil War, this range war will not only force the limits of Reuben's martial abilities but also put his sense of duty, honor, pride, justice, and love to the ultimate test. The story weaves in and out of the lives of three families who, having built edifices of power and wealth, must face the fragility of those walls. This is a story about building strength out of courage and is also a story about the dangers of pride.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Generations of Americans have developed an image of violence in the “Wild West” through books and films. But what conditions really resulted in violence on the American frontier between the 1880s and 1910s? How frequently did violence occur, and what forms did it take? Johnson explores these questions through the lens of the mining and range wars that plagued the region during this period. The author opens with an introductory essay that situates violence within social, political, and economic circumstances of the time, considering smaller cases of interpersonal violence and larger conflicts. Documents are then presented to illuminate two case studies of collective violence—the Johnson County range war in northern Wyoming and the 1913–1914 coal strike in southern Colorado resulting in the Ludlow Massacre. The closing epilogue examines the role both incidents played in shaping the collective memory and cultural history of the American West. The book’s format provides readers with both a general understanding of the history of western violence and the context of specific historical cases that allow for more in-depth study and comparison.
