Book Romanism in the Light of History Classic Reprint

Download or read book Romanism in the Light of History Classic Reprint written by Randolph H. McKim and published by . This book was released on 2016-06-21 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Romanism in the Light of History HE history and purpose of the following essays may be brie y stated: When the famous encyclical of Pope Leo XIII. On The Reunion of Christendom was republished in the American press, it seemed fitting, as well as respectful, that Protestants should make some acknowledgment of such an appeal. Summoned by the kindly voice of the illustrious head of the Roman Church to restore unity to Christendom by submission to the sovereign spiritual authority of the Roman Pontifi, and invited to make this submission in the name of Holy Scripture, and of the ancient Fathers of the Church, I ventured to answer in an Open Letter, citing the Holy Father himself to appear at the bar of history, and justify the tremendous claim which he makes upon our consciences. The second essay in this volume is an attempt to exhibit, in a brief space, the verdict of history (which is neither Roman Catholic nor Anglican) upon all the essential points of doctrine and jurisdiction contained in the said encyclical of Pope Leo XIII. On Christian unity. My letter bore date, Feast of the Annunciation, 1897. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Romanism as It Is: An Exposition of the Roman Catholic System, for the Use of the American People This book is not a partisan book, but a book of knowledge and of truth. It has cost much hard work to gather its materials and to put them in proper shape; but what is here contained is believed to be honestly worth what it has cost the author and publishers, or will cost the reader. The most authentic sources of information have been consulted and used; the exact truth has been diligently sought and carefully presented to view that it may be seen and known just as it is. Whatever is wise and honorable and reputable and right and true in Rome itself or in the system which there has its origin and seat, has been brought out' and exhibited without inquiring solicitously who would be pleased or displeased by the procedure. And, on the other hand, that which is unwise, dishonorable, disgraceful, unrighteous and false, has likewise been Spoken of with the same attempt at impartiality and usefulness. Misapprehensions, prejudices, and misrepresentations ought to be corrected, whether they are found in the Roman Catholic or in the Protestant. If what is held or maintained as truth cannot hear the light and cannot stand with God's help, then it is not God's truth and no Catholic or Protestant Should cling to it. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Romanism: Incompatible With Republican Institutions The subject proposed for tins essay involves principles vital to the welfare of every age and country. Religious belief is implanted in the nature of man. It is the only bond that connects him with the skies. The needs of the body, its pains and even its pleasures perpetually remind him that he is born of earth, and must return whence he came; but this feeling assures him that, in part at least, he may claim a nobler origin and more important destiny. It is the impulse of an immortal and imprisoned spirit, a yearning after the freedom of a higher world. The vice and barbarism of a people will not destroy it; they may oppress it with the most senseless and fantastic ceremonies, they may stifle it beneath cruel rights and degrading customs, but it will still exist; they can never eradicate it. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Romanism, the Danger Ahead: The Reason Why a Good Roman Catholic Cannot Be a Good Citizen of This Republic If ever the liberty of the American Republic is destroyed it will be the work of Roman Catholic priests. - Lafayette. Recently there was held in Rome a council of American bishops; previously a high official, Mon signior Capel, had shrewdly drawn out a pretty full newspaper expression of public sentiment in this country on the question between Romanism and the friends of our public school system, and without doubt had made his report thereof to the pope; then came the pope's bull against free schools, free masonry, free government, free society, free thought and free men - in short, against the spirit of the age - the fourteenth century's protest against the nineteenth - the cry of superstition against nat ure - the pope's bull against the comet. Book The Novelties of Romanism In Three Parts Vol 1 of 3

Download or read book The Novelties of Romanism In Three Parts Vol 1 of 3 written by Charles Hastings Collette and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-05 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Novelties of Romanism; In Three Parts, Vol. 1 of 3: I. Development of Doctrines; II. Chronological Arrangement; III. Old and New Creeds Contrasted The incident which led to the preparation of the present volume has already been adverted to in the preface. It is a reply to the allegation of a Roman Catholic bishop that he was the representative, in this country, of no new system of religion, and the teacher of no new doctrines. A copy of a previous edition of the work, on its first appearance, was duly forwarded to the rev. Doctor, calling in question his broad assertions. When a professed minister of the gospel presents himself before a mixed audience, and voluntarily makes a bold and startling statement, he is supposed to be prepared with evidence to support that statement; and, when questioned, to be ready to vindicate what he believes, or asserts to be, the truth. Acting, however, on the principle of his sect, the bishop in question maintained a strict silence. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
