Book Personal Attention Roleplay

Download or read book Personal Attention Roleplay written by Helen Chau Bradley and published by . This book was released on 2021-10 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A young gymnast crushes on an older, more talented teammate while contending with her overworked mother. A newly queer twenty-something juggles two intimate relationships--with a slippery anarchist lover and an idiosyncratic meals-on-wheels recipient. A queer metal band's summer tour unravels amid the sticky heat of the Northeastern US. A codependent listicle writer becomes obsessed with a Japanese ASMR channel. The stories in Personal Attention Roleplay are propelled by queer loneliness, mixed-race confusion, late capitalist despondency, and the pitfalls of intimacy. Taking place in Montreal, Toronto, and elsewhere, they feature young Asian misfits struggling with the desire to see themselves reflected--in their surroundings, in others, online. Chau Bradley's precise language and investigation of our more troubling motivations stand out in this wryly funny debut, through stories that hint at the uncanny while remaining grounded in the everyday.

  • Author : Juliana Gray

Download or read book Roleplay written by Juliana Gray and published by . This book was released on 2012-07-01 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Juliana Gray . . . is a beautiful and keen poet. My word, a gifted vision, almost egoless and yet fullhearted. -Barry Hannah Juliana Gray finds abundant inspiration in "the sudden turn within the everyday"- in family, Hitchcock, poetry itself. "Pointing into the view," she moves nimbly between voices playful at times and darkly serious; Roleplay is wildly imagined, flawlessly crafted-a stunning collection. -Claudia Emerson To find such wit and canniness about self and sex in American poetry, we have to look back to Dorothy Parker. Of course, we can look across the Atlantic to Wendy Cope. Juliana Gray has their sense of style but something else, too, which is all her own. She has located the ferocious tension in the undercurrent of society, which comes out as slapstick in comedy and violence in tragedy, but in either case is the same thing: human desire in conflict. Gray's inimitable humor is dark, indeed, but brilliant. -Mark Jarman In her second collection, Roleplay, Juliana Gray continues to dazzle with deft language and dark humor. The agenda of "The Devil Plans His Day" begins "Up at daybreak with the crows. Starbucks. / Tell the anorexic goth barista / how beautiful she looks, and overtip." In "Psycho," from a series inspired by Alfred Hitchcock, we remember "the three rules of homicide" "location location location." An aging Nancy Drew lists herself on Match.com with "Turn-ons: lightning, crosswords, antique clocks." Pop culture is just a stepping-stone for the poet, who wears her formal sensibilities lightly; playing wife to Philip Larkin, the safe word is "Ted Hughes." Gray has the rare blend of confidence and deprecation needed to navigate themed sections ("Casting Call," "Method") that question identity, acting, and the inner life. This book is important-without seeming self-important-and each page an unexpected delight. -Sandra Beasley

Or why Jordan is always trying something new? Each chapter is fun to read, stimulating, and immensely practical. This book is valuable to teachers, and for preachers, too. DAVID R. MAINS DIRECTOR, CHAPEL OF THE AIR It's about time. Creative Teaching Methods is not just another book on the theory of creativity (which we don't need). Rather, it is a book on the practice of creativity in the classroom (which we desperately need). This is a book you will use over and over again. Creative Teaching Methods is loaded with practical and usable ideas that will make creative teaching a reality in your classroom. Without hesitation, I would recommend this book to anyone who teaches young people or adults. MIKE YACONELLI PRESIDENT, YOUTH SPECIALTIES Marlene LeFever makes the principle of learning through creative participation come alive for Christian education. Creative methods are vividly and invitingly explored for their potential for deepening the spiritual life through new ways of hearing the Word of God and using heretofore untapped personal resources in responding to it. Unique in its assumption that in Christian education creativity is just as essential in work with youth and adults as it is in work with children. D. CAMPBELL WYCKOFF PROFESSOR OF CHRISTIAN EDUCATION EMERITUS, PRINCETON THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY Marlene D. LeFever is Manager of Ministry Relations for David C. Cook Church Ministries, holds a master of Christian education and is a frequent speaker at Sunday School conventions, writers' conferences, and professional organizations. Download or read book OSR Solo written by Peter Rudin-Burgess and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2021-02-23 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: OSR Solo rules These rules are intended to allow you to play an OSR, in this case meaning 0D&D, B/X style games, without a Dungeon Master. game you will get using these rules will be a sandbox-style adventure, you will not need to do any Dungeon Master [DM] style preparation although having a few stock NPCs or appropriate levels would be helpful. No DM? The normal cycle of play is that the DM describes the scene and asks what do you do? The players describe their actions. The DM describes the effects of those actions and the cycle repeats. In solo play there is just the single character and no DM. You start by imagining your character in the game setting and play them through all the social interactions, all the NPCs and events that would normally come up. At some point you will reach a point where you would normally ask your DM for more information. Are there any guards? Are there any ways out? What can you hear? At this point the solo rules come into play. You pitch your question in a Yes/No format. The solo rules will then return an answer to your question much like a Magic 8 Ball toy. It is then down to you and your improv. skills to decide what does this answer mean right now? Often the first thing that comes into your head is the answer to go with. If you just got yes and no answers things would get boring quite quickly. These rules are designed to throw up twists and turns into your character's story. is a perfect way to learn a new game, test your first adventures and going beyond just making characters when you are first getting to know the rules
