Book Revolution and the Christian Faith

Download or read book Revolution and the Christian Faith written by Vernon C. Grounds and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2007-05-01 with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this stirring book, Grounds has ably sketched the background against which the theology of revolution has emerged. Grounds puts it this way: I have sought to let the critics of the Establishment, Christian and secular alike, present in their own words the case for revolutionary change. I have also sought to let the revolutionary theologians set forth their interpretation of Christianity in detail. Quite literally, I have allowed them to speak for themselves. I have sought, further, to let Christian scholars who dissent from this new theology engage its proponents in debate. Very heavily I have drawn upon the work of Jacques Ellul, the towering French sociologist who is rapidly gaining in the United States the attention and respect which his rare fusion of professional distinction, intellectual power, and biblical commitment deserves. I shall feel amply regarded if through these pages he wins a wider readership among American evangelicals. An additional purpose has been to confront my own ecclesiastical tradition, that of Protestant orthodoxy, with the inexpressibly pressing need of permitting the anguish of our world to drive theological conservatism back to a New Testament discipleship which is nothing less than revolutionary.

Book In the World But Not of the World

Download or read book In the World But Not of the World written by Andrew L. Fitz-Gibbon and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2000 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the World, But Not of the World explores the threefold tension among Alasdair MacIntyre's prognosis for Western society; the desires of some for a social transformation with a Christian moral vision at the sacred centre; and a "baptist" understanding of Christianity as essentially voluntary, non-sacralist discipleship. Andrew Fitz-Gibbon uses five contemporary Christian social thinkers, from different traditions, as conversation partners. Through his examination of these thinkers, Fitz-Gibbon explores how the church may continue to truthfully narrate the Christian story in the midst of the moral tensions of late-capitalist Western society. His creative conclusion is that the church at the beginning of the twenty-first century can move toward a resolution of the central tension of "being in the world, but not of the world" through a synthesis of the believers' church tradition and an affirmation of communitarian liberal democracy.

Book excerpt: “ALL OF HEAVEN HOLDS ITS BREATH WAITING ON YOUR DECISION TO LIVE OUTRAGEOUSLY IN FAITH. TO BE UNCOMPROMISING TO WHATEVER GOD CALLS YOU TO DO...” The word CRAZY refers to passionate, zealous and devoted individuals. They inspire followers, challenge systems of thinking and bring a revolution. Jesus was in every sense of the word, CRAZY. He set a new standard of living and became a revolutionary; changing the world forever. Too many believers today are spiritually apathetic to things of God. They have no power, influence or fruitfulness of any significant amount. In a time of superficial faith the time has come for a CRAZY Revolution. To make a stand in the faith no matter the cost. To turn over tables in the face of hypocrisy. And to live the Christian faith radically. This is the Jesus way. What does it look like to be a committed Christian? How are we to live in holiness in a dark and fallen world? And how are we to stay true to Jesus’ call in taking up our cross and following Him? The answers will surprise you. This book will cover the essential qualities of what it means to be a faithful follower of Christ. It will explore the key elements of what are to be our priorities and how to finish our race strong. A revolution is rising in on the horizon of a strong and faithful army, living outrageously in faith. Much is at stake and all of heaven is awaiting your decision. Because at the end of the day, as you will soon find, you’ll be crazy not to be CRAZY...

Book Two Ages The Age of Revolution and the Present Age A Literary Review

Download or read book Two Ages The Age of Revolution and the Present Age A Literary Review written by Søren Kierkegaard and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2009-07-26 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After deciding to terminate his authorship with the pseudonymous Concluding Unscientific Postscript, Kierkegaard composed reviews as a means of writing without being an author. Two Ages, here presented in a definitive English text, is simultaneously a review and a book in its own right. In it, Kierkegaard comments on the anonymously published Danish novel Two Ages, which contrasts the mentality of the age of the French Revolution with that of the subsequent epoch of rationalism. Kierkegaard commends the author's shrewdness, and his critique builds on the novel's view of the two generations. With keen prophetic insight, Kierkegaard foresees the birth of an impersonal cultural wasteland, in which the individual will either be depersonalized or obliged to find an existence rooted in "equality before God and equality with all men." This edition, like all in the series, contains substantial supplementary material, including a historical introduction, entries from Kierkegaard's journals and papers, and the preface and conclusion of the original novel.
