Book Logistics Systems Design and Optimization

Download or read book Logistics Systems Design and Optimization written by Andre Langevin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-03-25 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a context of global competition, the optimization of logistics systems is inescapable. Logistics Systems: Design and Optimization falls within this perspective and presents twelve chapters that well illustrate the variety and the complexity of logistics activities. Each chapter is written by recognized researchers who have been commissioned to survey a specific topic or emerging area of logistics. The first chapter, by Riopel, Langevin, and Campbell, develops a framework for the entire book. It classifies logistics decisions and highlights the relevant linkages to logistics decisions. The intricacy of these linkages demonstrates how thoroughly the decisions are interrelated and underscores the complexity of managing logistics activities. Each of the chapters focus on quantitative methods for the design and optimization of logistics systems.

Book Quantitative Models for Reverse Logistics

Download or read book Quantitative Models for Reverse Logistics written by Moritz Fleischmann and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Economic, marketing, and legislative considerations are increasingly leading companies to take back and recover their products after use. From a logistics perspective, these initiatives give rise to new goods flows from the user back to the producer. The management of these goods flows opposite to the traditional supply chain flows is addressed in the recently emerged field of Reverse Logistics. This monograph considers quantitative models that support decision making in Reverse Logistics. To this end, several recent case studies are reviewed. Moreover, first hand insight from a study on used electronic equipment is reported on. On this basis, logistics issues arising in the management of "reverse" goods flows are identified. Moreover, differences between Reverse Logistics and more traditional logistics contexts are highlighted. Finally, attention is paid to capturing the characteristics of Reverse Logistics in appropriate quantitative models.

Book Multi objective Reverse Logistics Network Design and Analysis

Download or read book Multi objective Reverse Logistics Network Design and Analysis written by Mohammad Rahmatian and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Implementing an efficient closed-loop recovery network requires establishing appropriate logistics systems for flows of new, used, and recovered products. Reverse logistics has received increasing attention from researchers in the last few decades. This research addresses logistics network design in an integrated reverse logistics context. We present a multi-objective facility location and allocation model with multiple commodities. Three objectives are considered: overall cost minimization, product returns collection maximization, and product recovery maximization. The purpose is to obtain a set of non-dominating solutions for facility arrangement among the potential facilities as well as the associated material flows between these facilities and customers. The facility capacities are treated as discrete parameters and are imposed on each product type independently. Numerical examples are presented to analyze the model performance while implementing the constraint method. Finally, the trade-off relationship between the three competing objectives are presented and analyzed. Keywords. Reverse logistics; Multi-objective optimization, Constraint method.

It illustrates profitable practices in returned and recovered products, clearly explaining how to: design a reverse logistics network, conduct production planning, implement effective marketing strategies, and apply closed-loop supply chain strategies in industries besides manufacturing. From product development to materials to assembly and profitability, this complete resource explores the impact of these processes across all aspects of the supply chain.

Book A Bi objective Reverse Logistics Network Analysis for Post sale Service

Download or read book A Bi objective Reverse Logistics Network Analysis for Post sale Service written by Feng Du and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reverse logistics, induced by various forms of return, has received growing attention throughout this decade. Reverse logistics network design is a major strategic issue. Increasing numbers of manufacturers are outsourcing to third party logistics providers (3PLs) for variety value-added services related to reverse logistics, as well as for more traditional activities like transportation or warehousing. The proposed research addresses the analysis of reverse network design that deal with the returns that require post-sale service. First, a reverse logistics problem is proposed. Two objectives, minimization of the overall costs and minimization of the total tardiness of cycle time, are addressed. The facility capacity option at each potential location is treated as a discrete parameter. A bi-objective optimization model is developed. The purpose is to find a set of non-dominated solutions to the facility capacity arrangement among the potential facility locations, as well as the associated transportation flows between customer areas and service facilities. Then, a solution approach is designed for solving this bi-objective optimization model. The solution approach consists of a combination of three algorithms: scatter search, the constraint method and the dual simplex method. Computational analyses performed on trial examples. Finally, the research studies the impacts of some cost-related and time-related factors on the non-dominated solution set.

Book Network Design for Reverse Logistics

Download or read book Network Design for Reverse Logistics written by Samir K. Srivastava and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Collection and recycling of product returns is gaining interest in business and research worldwide. Growing green concerns and advancement of green supply chain management (GrSCM) concepts and practices make it all the more relevant. Inputs from literature and informal interviews with 84 stakeholders are used to develop a conceptual model for simultaneous location-allocation of facilities for a cost effective and efficient reverse logistics (RL) network. We cover costs and operations across a wide domain and our proposed RL network consists of collection centers and two types of rework facilities set up by original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) or their consortia for a few categories of product returns under various strategic, operational and customer service constraints in the Indian context. In this paper, we provide an integrated holistic conceptual framework that combines descriptive modeling with optimization techniques at the methodological level. We also provide detailed solutions for network configuration and design at the topological level, by carrying out experimentation with our conceptual model. Our findings provide useful insights to various stakeholders and suggest avenues for further research.
