Download or read book Results of Soil Vapor Sampling at SA 6 McClellan Air Force Base California written by and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 10 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This letter presents the results of the soil vapor sampling performed by Parsons Engineering Science, Inc. (Parsons ES) on 11 March 1998 and 22 May 1998 at Study Area 6 (SA 6), McClellan Air Force Base (AFB), California. Soil vapor samples were collected by Parsons ES to assess the effectiveness of more than 4 years of bioventing in remediating the volatile organic compound (VOC) and total petroleum hydrocarbon (TPH) contamination in site soil. The soil vapor sampling event was performed in accordance with the Final Sampling and Analysis Plan to Support Recommendation for No Further Investigation at SA 6 (Parsons ES, 1998) which has been reviewed and approved by the Air Force Center for Environmental Excellence (AFCEE), McClellan AFB, and the California Regional Water Quality Control Board, Central Valley Division. The SAP provides a detailed site description and history for SA 6 as well as soil and soil vapor sampling procedures and criteria to be used to support a no further investigation (NFI) recommendation. The purpose of this letter is to summarize the soil vapor sampling results and provide recommendations for confirmation soil sampling based on these results. A site layout illustrating soil vapor sampling locations and proposed soil sampling locations (Figure 1) and a table summarizing soil vapor results (Table 1) are attached.

This book was released on 1999 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this report is to document the effectiveness of soil remediation at SA 6 and to provide data to support an NFI decision for the site. SA 6 is located in the southwestern portion of the base within Operable Unit B (OU B) (Figure 1.1), south of Building 656, and west of Building 655 (Figure 1.2). The site is the former location of a gasoline service station (Building 657) and its associated underground storage tanks (USTs) which were located immediately east of the former building. The site is currently near the center of a large, paved parking lot. The former service station operated from 1955 until 1990. The two gasoline USTs and twO diesel USTs which supplied the station were removed in 1990 and 1991. Initial investigations conducted by the Base determined that the USTs had leaked and contaminated the soil. Subsequent investigations conducted at SA 6 identified fuel hydrocarbons, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) including benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes (BTEX), and halogenated VOCs in soil, soil vapor, and groundwater (ES, 1994; Radian, 1995). Although halogenated VOCs (chlorinated compounds) have been detected at SA 6, the Remedial Investigation Characterization Summary (RICS) (Radian, 1995) concluded that the source of these compounds is Investigation Cluster 7 (IC 7), another OU B site northwest of SA 6. Because only petroleum hydrocarbon contamination is attributed to the former gasoline service station, the RICS concluded that only total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) and BTEX were contaminants of potential concern (COPCs) at SA 6.

Download or read book Data Summary Report for Area D Soil Gas Sampling and Analysis McClellan Air Force Base Volume 1 Data Summary written by and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: CH2M HILL performed this work under a contract with McClellan Air Force Base for various environmental consulting services. The task order for which this report was prepared required sampling and analysis of soil gas extracted from vent risers through a low permeability cover over hazardous waste sites in Area D and from soil gas migration wells around the perimeter of the cover. The objectives of sampling and analyses were to provide data for comparison of the various sampling media used, determine the concentrations of target analytes in subsurface gases, evaluate the change in subsurface gas concentrations over time during vapor extraction, evaluate recovery of gas concentrations during non-extraction periods, evaluate sampling and analytical methods for future use in determining the nature and extent of contamination at the site, and recommended routine sampling and analytical protocols for soil gas monitoring at McClellan. This report is organized into a data interpretation volume (Volume I), and a second volume (Volume II) containing data both condensed and as received, and quality control reports.

Book excerpt: This Data Summary presents the results of groundwater sampling activities conducted on and in the vicinity of McClellan Air Force Base from the sampling period of January through March, 1989. Concentrations of purgeable halocarbons and aromatic compounds detected in 336 wells (26 monitoring wells are located on base in Area A, B, C, D, and adjacent on-base areas and off-base in the Northwest and Southwest areas. There was no detected increase in the areal extent of contaminated groundwater, nor was there any increase in the depth that contaminated groundwater was detected. The Area D extraction system is effectively operating to change hydraulic gradients, so groundwater in Area D flows toward the extraction wells. Contaminant concentrations have decreased in Area D deep zone monitoring wells. Samples from three middle zone monitoring wells located in Area D also show decreases in contaminant concentration during this sampling period. Decreasing contaminant concentrations have stabilized in shallow zone monitoring wells located off-base, west of Area D.
