Book Design with Residual Materials

Download or read book Design with Residual Materials written by Gordon Matheson and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since residual materials are derived from the chemical weathering of rock, the nature of the material is directly related to the type of parent material and the extent to which the weathering process has disintegrated the parent rock. This concise collection of peer-reviewed papers discusses the origin of residual materials and their engineering and design challenges. Topics include relations of saprolite and residual soils to rock-type on the Appalachian Piedmont (from New Jersey to Alabama); predicting the mode, susceptibility, and rate of weathering of shales; embankment dams in the Piedmont/Blue Ridge province; in situ measurement of rockfill properties; foundation design in Karst residuum; applications of soil nailing in residual soils; and estimation of in situ hydraulic properties of saprolite.

Book Regolith Geology and Geomorphology

Download or read book Regolith Geology and Geomorphology written by G. Taylor and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2001-08-30 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Providing fundamental discussion of regolith properties andchemistry, this book considers many landscape situations andfeatures, whilst linking process to position, geochemistry andtime. Presenting information from an Australian perspective itprovides new insights into the subject, which are developed awayfrom the yoke of traditional Northern Hemisphere ideas andconcepts. * Presents a new approach to the problems of understanding regolithgeology and landscapes * Presents the general aspects and principles of regolith * Chapters present views on landscapes and their evolution, thenature of minerals, the behaviour of water at a landscape level andthe exploration of water behaviour at various scales in regolithmaterials * Investigates methods of conveying information about regolith viamaps and in GIS packages

Book Landmark Papers

    Book Details:
  • Author : John D. Clemens
  • Publisher : Mineralogical Society
  • Release : 2012
  • ISBN : 9780903056304
  • Pages : 343 pages

Download or read book Landmark Papers written by John D. Clemens and published by Mineralogical Society. This book was released on 2012 with total page 343 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A compilation of landmark papers on granite petrogenesis is overdue. This volume is organized into a number of sections that represent what the editors regard as the main research fields in which progress has been made in understanding granites and their genesis. The origin of granitic magmas is part of the cycle that unites tectonic processes with the generation of mantle magma, crustal growth, the transfer of mantle heat to the crust, high-grade regional metamorphism, crustal melting and crustal differentiation. The extended subject area is far too wide to deal with in a single volume and therefore the selection has been limited to papers dealing with the formation, physical behaviour and chemical evolution of granitic magmas, and just touching on the matter of associated ore deposits. John (JC) Clemens and Fernando Bea are world experts on the subject of granite petrogenesis. Clemens' most important work has been on the origin and evolution of granites and silicic volcanic magmas, experimental studies and modelling of partial melting and the ascent and chemical evolution of granitic magmas, and these continue to be his main interests. Bea's research interests have been in the petrology and geochemistry of granite rocks and the mechanisms of generation of granite magmas, having studied in detail the role of heat-producing elements.
