Book Vietnam Joins the World

Download or read book Vietnam Joins the World written by James Morley and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-09-16 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ten American and Japanese specialists offer a comprehensive analysis of one of the most dramatic developments in Asia today: the re-emergence of Vietnam - not as the belligerent champion of a militant ideology and socialist cause, but as an open, friendly country seeking a respected place in the world community. Basing their observations on five years of study, visits to Vietnam, and numerous interviews with knowledgeable officials, scholars and businessmen there and in the United States and Japan, the authors evaluate the political, ecnomic, social and foreign policy changes that have been taking place in Vietnam over the past decade, trace the responses of the United States and Japan and offer a policy prescription for responding to the challenges of the future.

Book Human Resource Development in Vietnam

Download or read book Human Resource Development in Vietnam written by Hien Thi Tran and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-01-18 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite recent high GDP growth rates, Vietnam remains a developing country in need of developing human resources (HR) of both genders. This can be done through education, workplace training, corporate social responsibility, policies for gender equality, support for entrepreneurship, and other practices and policies. Yet, national human resource development (NHRD) is a relatively new concept in Vietnam. This edited volume highlights the importance of HR, HRD, and NHRD, enabling Vietnam to experience sustainable growth and become a modern industrial country. It examines the positive changes effected by HRD considering Vietnam’s unique historical, political, economic, and cultural contexts. This book offers scholars and practitioners an indigenous HRD approach and discusses implications for future research and practices.

Book Higher Education in Southeast Asia

Download or read book Higher Education in Southeast Asia written by Anthony Welch and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2011-03-31 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first book to systematically chart and comparatively assess the trend towards private higher education in South East Asia. Caught between conflicting imperatives of spiralling demand, and limited resources, the balance between public and private higher education systems in South East, South, and East Asia has shifted markedly. The author’s detailed case studies of Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, and Viet Nam discuss and analyse significant policy issues and touch on key debates surrounding globalisation, including economic globalisation and structural adjustment, and the pressures of cultural globalisation, particularly the role of the English language. Debates surrounding the role of higher education in the ‘knowledge economy’, GATS and cross border trade in educational services are also treated, including the rise of offshore campuses in countries such as Malaysia and Viet Nam. What is argued is that we are witnessing not merely a changing balance between public and private sectors, but a blurring of borders between them, with public HEIs now often behaving more like private, for-profit institutions. The book charts and illustrates these trends, posing questions about their meaning, including issues of transparency, equity, and what the reforms might mean for traditional conceptions of public good in higher education.

Book Higher Education in Vietnam

Download or read book Higher Education in Vietnam written by D. W. Sloper and published by Institute of Southeast Asian. This book was released on 1995 with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Growth and development in many Southeast Asian nations can be related to education and training activities, both formal and informal. Higher Education in Vietnam reviews the policy context, the history, and the characteristics of higher education in Vietnam and examines the extensive changes that have occurred in recent years until 1993. For the first time, information and statistics are provided about government policies and institutional operations in higher education. Included are four chapters written by ministers as well as two case studies: of the development of a private institution, and of a state university that has revitalized its academic and financial basis. Its twelve chapters were written and edited without invigilation by any government. This volume provides a unique and comprehensive introduction to higher education in Vietnam. It will be of interest both to specialists and to anyone concerned with development in Vietnam and Indochina. For customers in the United States and Canada, a separate hard cover edition is available from St. Martin1s Press, New York.

Book Skilling up Vietnam

    Book Details:
  • Author : Christian Bodewig
  • Publisher : World Bank Publications
  • Release : 2014-06-26
  • ISBN : 1464802327
  • Pages : 193 pages

Download or read book Skilling up Vietnam written by Christian Bodewig and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2014-06-26 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Education has played an important role in making Vietnam a development success story over the last twenty years. In the 1990s and early 2000s Vietnam experienced rapid economic growth and poverty reduction in the wake of a rapid shift of employment from low-productivity agriculture to higher-productivity nonfarm jobs. Vietnam's committed effort to promote access to quality primary education for all has enabled this transformation and contributed to the country's reputation for having a young, well-educated work force. Skilling Up Vietnam argues that to continue its success story, Vietnam needs to renew its focus on education: not just expanding attainment, but equipping its workforce with the right skills will be needed to foster to Vietnam's continued economic modernization in the coming decade and more. Despite the evidence of impressive basic literacy and numeracy achievements among Vietnamese youth and workers presented in this book, many Vietnamese businesses report that a significant obstacle to their activity is the shortage of workers with adequate skills. Drawing on a survey of employers in urban areas, the book finds that, in addition to job-specific skills, Vietnamese employers value cognitive skills, such as problem solving and critical thinking, and behavioral skills, such as team work and communication. Reorienting Vietnam's education system toward teaching these types of skills will help prepare Vietnamese workers for a modern market economy. Skilling Up Vietnam proposes a three-step holistic skills strategy that looks at today's workforce as much as the future workforce. Vietnam's skills development efforts should focus on promoting school readiness through early childhood development, ensuring a strong cognitive and behavioral foundation in general education, and building job-relevant technical skills through a more connected system among employers, students and universities, and vocational schools.
