Download or read book Virtually Human written by Martine Aliana Rothblatt and published by Macmillan. This book was released on 2014-09-09 with total page 367 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Virtually Human explores what the not-too-distant future will look like when cyberconsciousness—simulation of the human brain via software and computer technology—becomes part of our daily lives. Meet Bina48, the world's most sentient robot, commissioned by Martine Rothblatt and created by Hanson Robotics. Bina48 is a nascent Mindclone of Martine's wife that can engage in conversation, answer questions, and even have spontaneous thoughts that are derived from multimedia data in a Mindfile created by the real Bina. If you're active on Twitter or Facebook, share photos through Instagram, or blogging regularly, you're already on your way to creating a Mindfile—a digital database of your thoughts, memories, feelings, and opinions that is essentially a back-up copy of your mind. Soon, this Mindfile can be made conscious with special software—Mindware—that mimics the way human brains organize information, create emotions and achieve self-awareness. This may sound like science-fiction A.I. (artificial intelligence), but the nascent technology already exists. Thousands of software engineers across the globe are working to create cyberconsciousness based on human consciousness and the Obama administration recently announced plans to invest in a decade-long Brain Activity Map project. Virtually Human is the only book to examine the ethical issues relating to cyberconsciousness and Rothblatt, with a Ph.D. in medical ethics, is uniquely qualified to lead the dialogue.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dally Messenger, Ken Catchpole, Dick Thornett, David Campese, John Eales, Nick Farr-Jones, Cyril Towers, Mark Ella, George Smith, Dave Brockhoff, Andrew Slack, Ray Price, John Hipwell, Jason Little, Phil Kearns, Will Genia... Herbert 'Paddy' Moran was mesmerised by Italian dictator Benito Mussolini. He was also the first captain of a strange, disparate bunch who called themselves the Wallabies. One hundred years on, the Wallabies of today are as outlandish, cocksure and eccentric as their forebears. It is the spirit and soul of this group of remarkable sportsmen that is captured in Inside the Wallabies. This is the real story of the Wallabies from their first games in 1908 to today. It is about the players, the coaches, the politics and the games. It is about the soaring highs of World Cup success and the years when they truly deserved the moniker of Woeful Wallabies. It is about going on Tour, about enmities and friendships, about moments of national elation and player shame. As fast paced as a Mark Ella backline play, as solid as Phil Kearns' front row and as controversial as a Robbie Deans selection, Inside the Wallabies is a fascinating, passionate and insightful history of the world of the Australian Rugby Union. It is a book no rugby fan can be without.

Download or read book Basic Training for the Fight of Your Life the Final Stand written by Robert Mayhew and published by eBookIt.com. This book was released on 2013-02 with total page 167 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of the book is to revive the spirit of real Christianity in the United States, stand against our 'Adversary' and turn from our collective moral drift. Done as an analogy by telling my experiences in Basic Training in the Army and how those experiences relate to Christianity. The book is divided into three parts. The first part is Individual Training skill sets. For example, my volunteering in the Army and the transition from civilian to soldier. Likewise the transition from not being a Christian to voluntarily wanting to be one and the transition that takes place. Another is my experience on a compass course where I started out doing well but got lost and finally found my way to the finish. I compare the compass to the Bible and relate it to life. Other examples as well. The second part is Opposing Forces Training where I learned how the enemy operates and received training focused around defeating him. I apply that to learning the ways of Satan because just like a victorious army, you must know your spiritual enemy to be successful against him. And the third and last phase is the reclamation which is brought about only by the application of the first two phases. That is reinforced by quotes from prominent people from the past.

Download or read book Understanding Evil written by Keith Doubt and published by Fordham Univ Press. This book was released on 2006 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Understanding Evil, Keith Doubt uses the horrors of the recent war in Bosnia to develop meaningfully adequate accounts of evil within the context of war crimes and crimes against humanity. Since the foundationsof the social are found in human action, evil's assault on these foundations results in the demise of the social. In Bosnia, not only were individuals, families, homes, and buildings destroyed, but entire towns and cities wereobliterated. Not only were individual human beings murdered, but so was the history and memory of vibrant communities. Crimes against humanity in Bosnia, Doubt argues, were sociocidal; they were systematic attacks on social life itself. The book develops the significance of sociocideas what evil is in order to understand the suffering and tragedy of the people and communities in Bosnia.

Download or read book Storm Breaking written by Mercedes Lackey and published by Astra Publishing House. This book was released on 1997-10-01 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As Storm Breaking opens, the western allies, led by Karal, Karsite Sunpriest and delegate to the Valdemaran Court, and the Adepts Firesong and An'desha, have traveled deep into the Dorisha Plains to locate the ancient ruins of the Tower of Urtho, Mage of Silence, creator of the gryphons. Legend has it that below the Tower, deeply buried beneath the plains, is Urtho's Vault, hidden stronghold of some of the most powerful magical weapons ever devised - weapons that Urtho himself felt were too dangerous to use. With the help of the Shin'a'in plainsmen, they have successfully excavated this ancient arsenal, and risked their lives triggering one of these antique but potent tools of death to unleash a monstrous burst of mage-energy. With this explosion of magical power, Karal, Firesong, and their companions have temporarily counteracted the ever-increasing waves of the mage storms. But they know that this desperate action will not save them - they have bought themselves precious time, but are still far from a permanent solution. They know now that the mage storms are an "echo" through time of the prehistoric Cataclysm which destroyed Urtho's Tower, created the vast and barren Dorisha Plains, and permanently warped their world more than two thousand years ago. And they also know that if they don't find a way to banish these magical vibrations they will culminate in another Cataclysm - this time destroying their world for good. But the Vault is not the only thing buried for centuries below the Dorisha Plains, and camped in the ruins of what once was the workplace of the most ingenious mage their world has ever known, the desperate allies soon come to realize that their solution may lie beneath the dust at their feet. The saving of their world just might be accomplished by the work of a man who has been dead for millennia!
