Estas normas europeas acabarán sustituyendo a los reglamentos nacionales. Las normas de diseño de las estructuras metálicas quedan recogidas en el Eurocódigo 3. Con el fin de tener una norma de ejecución coherente con esta norma de diseño- el Eurocódigo 3- se creó la norma ENV 1090 de ejecución de estructuras de acero. Esta norma estaba dividida en 6 bloques, dedicados a los distintos tipos de estructuras de acero (edificación, acero conformado en frío, acero inoxidable, puentes, etc.). En diciembre de 2008 se aprobó una nueva versión de la norma que unificaba los bloques de la versión anterior: la norma EN 1090-2 "Ejecución de estructuras de acero y aluminio - Parte 2: Requisitos técnicos para la ejecución de estructuras de acero". Este trabajo parte desde este punto y se centra en el estudio de las normas de ejecución de las estructuras ligeras de acero, formadas a partir de elementos y chapas de paredes delgadas conformados en frío.
