Download or read book The Lost Art of Friendship written by Patricia Hull and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2018-07-31 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is friendship lost? When did it get lost? Where did it go? The Lost Art of Friendship is a book about one person's experience in finding, losing, keeping and cherishing true friendship. There are also stories taken from the Bible that illuminate principals of true, abiding friendship. Do you have the friendships you desire? Are you the friend you want to be? Friendship has gotten lost in the current culture of technology. It is easier to text than to develop an in-person, personal relationship. Even though technology is vital to communication, it should not replace developing relationships in personal contact. Each chapter tells a story, provides a basic principle of friendship, and ends with various points for the reader to ponder as they consider their own friendship characteristics and development. The reader is challenged to examine themselves and encouraged to make positive changes. Patricia Hull is a licensed Marriage, Family and Child Therapist. She has a long career working in child welfare, private practice and mental health facilities in Southern California. Patricia has developed training programs for foster parents. She has taught Bible Studies and has led praise and worship teams. Patricia has written Christian songs. Patricia is married and has two married adult children along with one grand-dog. Her hobbies are reading, writing, singing, walks on the beach, and travel. Her passion is to help people find their strengths and to assist them to develop those strengths.

Book excerpt: In this age of limitless digital connections, we are somehow lonelier than ever. This isn't just bad news--it's dangerous news. Loneliness puts us at greater health risk than smoking or obesity, but we would sooner label ourselves overweight than admit we are lonely. It is a secret that is killing us. Contrary to all our efforts, the answer is not found in more connections, but deeper ones that mirror God himself as the originator of friendship and the original Friend. The Art of Friendship walks with you into a greater understanding of how God has equipped you to be a friend and to have meaningful friendships. With step-by-step guidance, you will begin to strategize how to fulfill your divine calling as a friend. And through God's Word, as you come to understand the depth and width and breadth of God as Friend, you will discover that the spiritual discipline of friendship is both life-changing and life-giving.

This book was released on 2021-03-23 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Named a Best Business Book of 2021 by Soundview Magazine Reclaim the power of genuine human connection Networking is often considered a necessary evil for all working professionals. With social media platforms like Linkedin, Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook at our disposal, reaching potential investors or employers is much easier. Yet, these connections often feel transactional, agenda-driven, and dehumanizing, leaving professionals feeling burnt out and stressed out. Instead, we should connect on a human level and build authentic relationships beyond securing a new job or a new investor for your next big idea. To build real and meaningful networking contacts, we need to go back to basics, remembering that technology is a tool and more than just a means to an end. We need to tap into our humanity and learn to be more intentional and authentic. As a “serial connector” and communications expert, Susan McPherson has a lifetime of experience building genuine connections in and out of work. Her methodology is broken down into three simple steps: Gather: Instead of waiting for the perfect networking opportunity to come to you, think outside the box and create your own opportunity. Host your own dinner party, join a local meet-up group, or volunteer at your neighborhood food pantry. Ask: Instead of leading with our own rehearsed elevator pitches asking for help, ask to help, opening the door to share resources, experience, contacts, and perspectives that add diversity to your own vision. Do: Turn new connections into meaningful relationships by taking these newly formed relationships deeper. Follow through on the promises you made and keep in touch. Woven together with helpful tips and useful advice on making the most out of every step, this book draws on McPherson’s own experience as a renowned “serial connector,” as well as the real life success stories of friends and clients. Filled with humor, humility, and wisdom, The Lost Art of Connecting is the handbook we all need to foster personal and professional relationships that blur the lines between work and play—and enrich our lives in every way.

Book excerpt: "A tribute to a time when style -- and maybe even life -- felt more straightforward, and however arbitrary, there were definitive answers." -- Sadie Stein, Paris Review As a glance down any street in America quickly reveals, American women have forgotten how to dress. We lack the fashion know-how we need to dress professionally and beautifully. In The Lost Art of Dress, historian and dressmaker Linda Przybyszewski reveals that this wasn't always true. In the first half of the twentieth century, a remarkable group of women -- the so-called Dress Doctors -- taught American women that knowledge, not money, was key to a beautiful wardrobe. They empowered women to design, make, and choose clothing for both the workplace and the home. Armed with the Dress Doctors' simple design principles -- harmony, proportion, balance, rhythm, emphasis -- modern American women from all classes learned to dress for all occasions in ways that made them confident, engaged members of society. A captivating and beautifully illustrated look at the world of the Dress Doctors, The Lost Art of Dress introduces a new audience to their timeless rules of fashion and beauty -- rules which, with a little help, we can certainly learn again.
