Alexis and Austin don’t have a typical “meet cute”—their first encounter involves Alexis, an emergency room doctor, suturing a bullet wound in Austin’s arm. Six months later, they’re on a romantic getaway in Vietnam: a bike tour on which Austin can show Alexis his passion for cycling, and can pay his respects to the place where his father and uncle fought in the war. But then Austin fails to return from a solo ride. Alexis’s boyfriend has vanished, the only clue left behind a bright yellow energy gel dropped on the road. As Alexis grapples with this bewildering loss, she starts to uncover a series of strange lies that force her to wonder: Where did Austin go? Why did he really bring her to Vietnam? And how much danger has he left her in? Set amidst the adrenaline-fueled world of the emergency room, The Red Lotus is a global thriller about those who dedicate their lives to saving people—and those who peddle death to the highest bidder. Book Red as a Lotus

    Book Details:
  • Author : Lisa Gill
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2002
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 140 pages

Download or read book Red as a Lotus written by Lisa Gill and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally given an old copy of Thomas Merton's Seeds of Contemplation by a friend's mother, Lisa Gill began a series of fourteen-line poems which meticulously transcribe her own spiritual reckoning. As a response to Merton's life and echoing the resonance she found in a world-view which included Christian contemplative life as well as Eastern religions and political work, she has fashioned a testament driven by a "hard-ass" sincerity capable of seeing her own distinct life. With a hunger that fallibility makes for receptivity and an eye which stays true to the bone, these poems lead toward the deep nature of immediate landscape and psyche with a capacity for perceiving their connectedness. A resolution exists here that poetry is indeed a calling--a journey of consequences where one keeps asking questions while pulled by a sense of Presence. Thomas Merton acts as inspiration as well as a friend for such dialogue, someone to hold her to scrutiny and not allow the glossing over of what's real. In turns terrifying, funny, fierce, and transcendent, any one of these poems would reward a day's meditation, yet it is impossible to stop reading them one after the other. Spare and lush at the same time, they work together like a tapestry of ever deepening revelations. Take nothing for granted, open the door, notice everything--know yourself, know poverty, doubt, ecstasy. For Lisa Gill every day is the first and last day of the world. Brilliant and uncompromising, this book will certainly appeal to anyone drawn to the sensibilities of Merton or the beauty of language at the service of inquiry.

Book The Iconography of Hindu Tantric Deities

Download or read book The Iconography of Hindu Tantric Deities written by Gudrun Bühnemann and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2022-11-28 with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While Volume I of this two-volume monograph focuses on the deity pantheon of the sixteenth-century Mantramahodadhi, this volume compares for the first time deity descriptions extracted from two earlier and closely related texts, the anonymous Prapañcasāra (ca. tenth century) and Lakṣmaṇadeśika’s Sāradātilaka (tenth/eleventh centuries). The latter work, though based on the Prapañcasāra, treats the topics independently and incorporates new deity descriptions while omitting others. Both texts are still influential and are frequently cited. The Sanskrit text of the 78 deity descriptions extracted from the Prapañcasāra and the 101 descriptions from the Sāradātilaka is based on a comparison of different printed editions of these texts, as well as citations found in other works. The Sanskrit text is presented with a literal translation and remarks on the iconography. The introductory section addresses basic questions related to these two works. In addition, a new edition and translation of the important chapters I (on cosmogony) and 25 (on yoga) of the Sāradātilaka are presented in two appendices. A large number of illustrations of deities complement the volume. The print edition is available as a set of two volumes (9789069801193).
