Book Reality According to the Scriptures

Download or read book Reality According to the Scriptures written by José Soto and published by Wayfinders Publishing House. This book was released on 2022-10-23 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is the nature of reality according to the Scriptures? What is the nature and purpose of God’s creation, and of humanity within creation? Did our role change after evil entered the world in Genesis 3, or is it fundamentally the same as at creation? What is “the meaning of life” according to the Scriptures, and how can such a vision be lived out and conveyed meaningfully in our generation? These are the sorts of questions this book is beginning to address, the first fruits of more than twelve years of research at the intersection of philosophy and biblical studies. Reality According to the Scriptures is written by a Christian disciple for Christian disciples: a call for the church to get our Story straight, to find ourselves in the narrative-world of the Bible, and then do our best to play our part well. EDITORIAL REVIEWS This is one of the best-researched works I have ever read. José Soto did a great job of compiling all this data to create a masterpiece. Each chapter builds up from the previous one, giving the narrative a smooth flow and making it easier to understand. Soto includes well-researched references and organizes everything beautifully. Apart from its amazing format and structure, it also has a life-changing message. Everyone has their views on reality and the purpose of existence. Reality According to the Scriptures presents us with a message about the part we are to play in this world. The message of redemption is that of love, hope, and purpose. What we emit into the world will reflect who we are, and if we do the will of God, we present Him to the world through our work. He lives in all of us, and no matter how far you think you have gone astray, He is always there for each one of us. This is the first volume in the series by Soto and I can't wait to read more of his work. —Luwi Nyakansaila, reviewed for Readers' Favorite Reality According to the Scriptures: Initial Reflections by José Soto explores the concept of reality as it is presented in the scriptures. ... Soto argues that the biblical understanding of reality emphasizes the interconnectedness of all things and that the relationships between God, humans, and the natural world are all integral to the overall fabric of reality. Another important theme is the idea that reality is both material and spiritual. Reality According to the Scriptures suggests that the scriptures present a holistic view of reality that includes both physical and spiritual dimensions and that these dimensions are inseparable. While the narrative style is thought-provoking, it also challenges us to think deeply about the nature of reality and the scriptures' role in shaping our understanding of it. I like how the narrative is shaped to be simple yet profound at the same time. You don't have to be a Christian to understand this book. Theology students will benefit from this straightforward narrative that packs a punch of knowledge. I highly recommend it. —Rabia Tanveer, reviewed for Readers' Favorite

Book excerpt: Scripture reveals a God who meets us where we are, not where we pretend to be. No More Faking Fine is your invitation to get honest with God through the life-giving language of lament. If you've ever been given empty clichés during challenging times, you know how painful it is to be misunderstood by well-meaning people. When life hurts, we often feel pressure--from others and ourselves--to keep it together, suck it up, or pray it away. But Scripture reveals a God who lovingly invites us to give honest voice to our emotions when life hits hard. For most of her life, Esther Fleece Allen believed she could bypass the painful emotions of her broken past by shutting them down altogether. She was known as an achiever and an overcomer on the fast track to success. But in silencing her pain, she robbed herself of the opportunity to be healed. Maybe you've done the same. Esther's journey into healing began when she discovered that God has given us a real-world way to deal with raw emotions and an alternative to the coping mechanisms that end up causing more pain. It's called lament--the gut-level, honest prayer that God never ignores, never silences, and never wastes. No More Faking Fine is your permission to lament, taking you on a journey down the unexpected pathway to true intimacy with God. Drawing from careful biblical study and hard-won insight, Esther reveals how to use God's own language to come closer to him as he leads us through our pain to the light on the other side, teaching you that: We are robbing ourselves of a divine mystery and a divine intimacy when we pretend to have it all together God does not expect us to be perfect; instead, he meets us where we are There is hope beyond your heartache, disappointment, and grief Like Esther, you'll soon find that when one person stops faking fine, it gives everyone else permission to do the same.

Book The Essentials of Christian Thought

Download or read book The Essentials of Christian Thought written by Roger E. Olson and published by Zondervan Academic. This book was released on 2017-03-14 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Or at least, such an outlook should unite Christians of all theological and church backgrounds. However, alternate visions of reality often infect and corrupt Christians’ thinking. In The Essentials of Christian Thought, eminent theologian and church historian Roger Olson outlines the basic perspective on the world that all Christians, regardless of the place and time in which they are born, have historically held. This underlying metaphysic accords with all orthodox theologies, whether Calvinist or Arminian, Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, or Protestant, but it separates Christianity from other religious and secular perspectives. It is, quite simply, the essential requirement of a Christian view of the world. Bold and incisive, The Essentials of Christian Thought will prompt thoughtful readers and students to more consciously appropriate the core of their faith, guarding against ideas that subtly but necessarily invite compromise.

Download or read book Think written by John Piper and published by Inter-Varsity Press. This book was released on 2013-04-23 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a book to help Christians to think about thinking. Focusing on the life of the mind helps us to know God better, love him more, and care for the world. Along with an emphasis on emotions and the experience of God, we also need to practise careful thinking about God. Piper contends that 'thinking is indispensable on the path to passion for God'. So how are we to maintain a healthy balance of mind and heart, thinking and feeling? Piper urges us to think for the glory of God. He demonstrates from Scripture that glorifying God with our minds and hearts is not either-or, but both-and. Thinking carefully about God fuels passion and affections for God. Likewise, Christ-exalting emotion leads to disciplined thinking. Readers will be reminded that 'the mind serves to know the truth that fuels the fires of the heart'.
