Book Real Men Keep Their Balls in the Truck

Download or read book Real Men Keep Their Balls in the Truck written by David Houston and published by Covenant Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2019-11-21 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a lot like many other books on the topic of what constitutes a man. However, that is not the main focus of the book. More importantly, it is not what constitutes a man but who constitutes a man. All the self-help books on the subject, psychiatrists and their talk shows, and best friends' sage advice at closing time are all the same-insufficient at best, incorrect at worst. This book looks to the most authoritative source on who constitutes a man-the Bible. The world uses a sliding scale to define manhood, defining it in whatever terms is most comfortable at the time. The Bible's definition of a man has not, and will not, ever change because truth is not a piece of silly putty we get to mold into our view of what is no. 1 Dad. This book takes specific passages from the Bible and relates them in a way we, as Christian men, and those that desire to be Christian men, can understand and, most importantly, put into action so that the world may come to understand and believe what the word says. After all, real men are doers, not just hearers.

Book excerpt: Providence and hard work is a journey back to the golden era of the fifties as seen through the eyes of Caleb Morgan, a strikingly handsome, poor farm boy from rural Mississippi. Caleb arrived at the exclusive Marston College in 1955 driving a '23 Model T pickup. He soon became the brunt of everyone's jokes, appearing somewhat slow because of his deep southern drawl and naivety. Caleb's dream was to play football at Marston College, although he had never played before and become a teacher. He soon fell in love with the campus beauty; however, she wore an engagement ring and a mysterious air of sadness. Caleb secures employment at the local country club, tries out for football, and begins classes, making a fool of himself at every turn. Ready to forsake his dreams and return to the cotton fields after becoming the victim of a cruel prank that nearly cost his roommate's life, Caleb gains the attention of Dr. Marston, the most affluent man in Mississippi and owner of the prestigious country club where Caleb works. Dr. Marston is so impressed with Caleb's humility and integrity that he takes Caleb under his wing and begins making secret plans for Caleb's future. Caleb's fortune began to change after that day, and in time, the campus goat became the campus' "Golden Boy." The education he receives is a far cry from the one he expected. With its wry humor and endearing characters; Providence and Hard Work will tug at your heart strings.

Book Brooklyn Crazy Guy

Download or read book Brooklyn Crazy Guy written by Michael Castello and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2012-04-27 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: East New York was a section of Brooklyn and was the mecca of organized crime; the floodgates were opened to immigrants and those that came for a better life, marveled at the vastness of the open fields they the immigrants were ready to enslave themselves to secure a better life. Others with devious minds saw an opportunity to form a new government. America was ripe for the underworld. The families came for freedom but were subdued; some families taught their children to respect the crime lords. I was fascinated by the stories of brutality by men that blamed others for discrimination; the crime lords declared that we must stick together and not trust outsiders. That formed my mind set. The schools were a playground for me; I fought my way from one school to another. I was uneducated found myself with the worst jobs. I started stealing. I developed a taste for forbidden fruit. I spent time in the military learned to use weapons. I had a diabolical aspect in my thinking nothing seemed to bother me. I did mundane things one fiasco after another, all I could think of was crime. I love to handle guns it give me a sense of power. I would practice in front of the mirror: I would pull the gun from my belt. I wanted to be John Dillinger tough and vicious. I did a lot of time lost my wife and child noting mattered all I wanted was to be respected by fear; the jails were hard to take. The inmates were hard to deal with. My eyes opened to the fact that I was the biggest sucker that there ever was. I did not feel sorry for myself I kind of disliked who I was. I lived alone had few friends. I spent the last 17 years poking fun at myself I could have been someone; I elected to be a nobody!

Book A Trip to the Beach

Download or read book A Trip to the Beach written by Melinda Blanchard and published by Potter Style. This book was released on 2001-11-20 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the true story of a trip to the beach that never ends. It's about a husband and wife who escape civilization to build a small restaurant on an island paradise -- and discover that even paradise has its pitfalls. It's a story filled with calamities and comedy, culinary disasters and triumphs, and indelible portraits of people who live and work on a sliver of beauty set in the Caribbean Sea. It's about the maddening, exhausting, outlandish complications of trying to live the simple life -- and the joy that comes when you somehow pull it off. The story begins when Bob and Melinda Blanchard sell their successful Vermont food business and decide, perhaps impulsively, to get away from it all. Why not open a beach bar and grill on Anguilla, their favorite Caribbean island? One thing leads to another and the little grill turns into an enchanting restaurant that quickly draws four-star reviews and a celebrity-studded clientele eager for Melinda's delectable cooking. Amid the frenetic pace of the Christmas "high season," the Blanchards and their kitchen staff -- Clinton and Ozzie, the dancing sous-chefs; Shabby, the master lobster-wrangler; Bug, the dish-washing comedian -- come together like a crack drill team. And even in the midst of hilarious pandemonium, there are moments of bliss. As the Blanchards learn to adapt to island time, they become ever more deeply attached to the quirky rhythms and customs of their new home. Until disaster strikes: Hurricane Luis, a category-4 storm with two-hundred-mile-an-hour gusts, devastates Anguilla. Bob and Melinda survey the wreckage of their beloved restaurant and wonder whether leaving Anguilla, with its innumerable challenges, would be any easier than walking out on each other. Affectionate, seductive, and very funny, A Trip to the Beach is a love letter to a place that becomes both home and escape.

Book How to Start Engaging Conversations on Women s Men s or Family Studies with Wealthy Strangers

Download or read book How to Start Engaging Conversations on Women s Men s or Family Studies with Wealthy Strangers written by Anne Hart and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2007-04-03 with total page 395 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sicilian-American Women's, Men's, and Family Studies Professor, psychoanalyst, and night radio talk show personality, Anna Falco's dad always told her that the lower our self esteem, the more we want to be someone different from ourselves, and the more we want someone different from ourselves. He made a point that the higher our self esteem, the more we want someone like ourselves. Anna Falco added something more to that: her belief that couples with self-respect will respect each other. Not one of Anna's clients came from families where the husband and wife or child and parent respected one another. That could be one huge reason why family wars grew into world wars. Now family wars had become full-blown race wars in the streets of Los Angeles. Skip an octave, and old hatreds of differences fanned flames between the 'haves' and 'have-nots.' She offered to trade the wisdom of age for the energy of youth. But it all boiled down to honor between family members. Anna explained the difference between self-esteem and self-respect. Being an older woman reminded Wrenboy (the troubled court-appointed street teen that she had adopted) of a mother hen capable of caging his freedom. Her lined face reminded him of his own mortality at a time when he felt invincible and desperately lonely for a loving family. Would he fear her strident voice hammering him back into childhood? Or would he accept her globetrotting to repair the world with kindness? In his search for power and autonomy, he concluded it is easier to rebel.
