Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "O Sita, those munis, who have taken to strict vows, living aggrieved in Dandaka-aranya have personally approached Me, who am a protector of the surrendered, and sought refuge." (Lord Rama speaking to Sita Devi, Valmiki Ramayana, Aranya-kanda, 10.4) The sages residing in the Dandaka forest were being harassed daily by the ogres ranging the night, those demons intent on thwarting the peaceful religious activities of the rishis given to asceticism and penance. Understanding that their only chance at safety and peace lay in the hands of the divine prince of Ayodhya, Shri Rama, the sages kindly petitioned that most humble, gentle, chivalrous, and capable of warriors to help save them from the attacks of the vile Rakshasas, the ogres given to black magic and illusion. Rama, wholly willing to provide for the protection of those dependent upon the administrative class of men, was ready to come to the aid of the ascetics, but before He could proceed any further, His beautiful, kind, and caring wife, Sita Devi, had a few concerns of her own. Knowing full well the nature of the attacking ogres and the innocence and exalted status of the sages in the Dandaka forest, Sita was still concerned that her husband, who had taken a vow to always abide by dharma, might take to unnecessary violence borne of anger and rage directed at the enemy. Not wanting her dear husband to even show a hint of unrighteousness, Sita kindly put her concerns before Rama. Rama’s response to Sita’s kind inquiry is found in the famous Ramayana, an epic poem and classic text of the Vedic tradition. Rama, who is celebrated as a divine figure throughout the world, responded to Sita by firmly establishing His dedication to the welfare and protection of the saintly class of men. Lord Rama: The Shelter for the Saints consists of fifteen essays covering the different verses from the Ramayana that constituted Rama’s response to Sita. These descriptions cover a wide range of subjects, including spirituality, the divisions of work and spiritual institutions prescribed for man, the essence of human life, the temporary nature of life and death, the eternal wisdom of the Vedic teachings found in sacred texts like the Shrimad Bhagavatam and Bhagavad-gita, and much more.

This book was released on 2017-02-07 with total page 77 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The quality of our consciousness can go up or down based on how we see the world and act in it. When we act like the eternal spiritual beings that we are – small parts of a supreme whole – makes us happy. But if we focus our attempts at happiness on the temporary body and mind – on matter – and make those our life's priority, our consciousness will shrink and we’ll be miserable. Spiritual elevation – raising our consciousness to higher levels – happens quickly when we revive our God consciousness. In this compact book, Srila Prabhupada recommends seeing the world as it is – a temporary place full of anxiety – and then taking the road to higher consciousness by rediscovering our relationship with the Supreme Person, Krishna. Anyone can become elevated; the journey begins with a single step up.

Book excerpt: Sugriva, the chief of the forest dwellers in Kishkindha, was resting in his safe haven on the top of Mount Rishyamukha, a place where his estranged brother Vali could not attack him. Though he was safeguarded from the powerful influence of his brother, Sugriva was by no means in a peaceful condition. At every second of the day there was trepidation, as someone could be coming to attack him. Therefore it wasn’t surprising that when he saw two handsome and well-built young men carrying weapons approaching his forest, he became a bit apprehensive. These two princes seen from a distance appeared to be very powerful, and they were certainly not in the right place. The forest was meant for the animals and the ascetics, so the presence of two such powerful fighters was certainly conspicuous. As any good leader would do, Sugriva approached his most trusted aide and asked him to go down and meet the two princes. “See what they want, for I’m afraid they might be assassins sent by Vali to do me in.” Sugriva’s chief minister was no ordinary person. He was none other than Shri Hanuman, one of the most famous divine figures in the world. The wonderful details of his subsequent meeting with the two princes, Shri Rama and Shri Lakshmana, are nicely related in the ancient poem called the Ramayana. Hanuman is known as the greatest devotee of Lord Rama, who is Himself an object of worship. The accounts of their initial meeting give insight into the glorious nature of Hanuman and also indicate that his wonderful characteristics were readily identifiable to the one person whose opinion matters, the one entity who all the world has been trying to find and please since the beginning of time. Meeting Hanuman is a collection of twenty one essays discussing the different verses from the Ramayana that describe Hanuman’s meeting with the two princes of the Raghu dynasty, Rama and Lakshmana, who were searching for Sita Devi, Rama’s wife. As whoever has Hanuman’s association is forever benefitted, Rama’s reunion with Sita and the permanent alleviation of Sugriva’s fears would both have their genesis in this wonderful meeting.

Book Rama The Supreme God

    Book Details:
  • Author : C. Tom
  • Publisher : Createspace Independent Publishing Platform
  • Release : 2018-01-13
  • ISBN : 9781983718298
  • Pages : 228 pages

Download or read book Rama The Supreme God written by C. Tom and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-01-13 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: According to the latest version of Ramayana, Rama was avatar of the supreme god Vishnu. Ramayana was written by an unknown poet. It is in the format of a story within a story. Ramayana is the story of a rishi called Valmiki. Valmiki accidentally came upon a meter (tune) for poems. Then his friend Narada, son of Brahma, came by for a social visit. Narada asked him: 'who is the perfect gentleman on earth (maryada purushotham)?' Valmiki listed the qualities he expected in the perfect gentleman. Narada replied that all the qualities which Valmiki had described cannot be found in one man. However, he had heard from his father Brahma about a perfect gentleman. His name was Rama. Then, Narada narrated the story of Rama who lived a long time before them. Then, god Brahma came by. He told Valmiki to compose the story of Rama in the meter which he has accidentally discovered. Valmiki obliged and composed the story of Rama based on what he heard from Narada. The epic Ramayana tells us how and what Valmiki, the lead character in Ramayana, composed in six khandas. [Note: Valmiki, the hunter who shot the mating bird, Narada, god Brahma, Rama are all fictional characters in the epic Ramayana.] The unknown author of Ramayana gave the title 'Adi kavi' (first poet) to his character Valmiki and the title 'Adi kavyam' (first poem) to his composition 'the story of Rama'. So, within the fictional epic 'Ramayana', the lead character Valmiki is the first poet and his composition 'story of Rama' is the first poem. It is generally believed that Ramayana was the first poem (Adi Kavyam) and its author was the first poet. Ramayana is the oldest surviving book composed by anyone anywhere. Surely there were many poems, epics, dramas, philosophical treatises etc. before and at the time of Ramayana. But none of them survived millennia.
