Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Decision Making in Radiation Oncology is a reference book designed to enable radiation oncologists, including those in training, to make diagnostic and treatment decisions effectively and efficiently. The design is based on the belief that “a picture is worth a thousand words.” Knowledge is conveyed through an illustrative approach using algorithms, schemas, graphics, and tables. Detailed guidelines are provided for multidisciplinary cancer management and radiation therapy techniques. In addition to the attention-riveting algorithms for diagnosis and treatment, strategies for the management of disease at individual stages are detailed for all the commonly diagnosed malignancies. Clinical trials that have yielded “gold standard” treatment and their results are documented in the schemas. Moreover, radiation techniques, including treatment planning and delivery, are presented in an illustrative way. This groundbreaking publication is an essential tool for physicians in their daily clinical practice.

Book Circulation of Power

Download or read book Circulation of Power written by Michael M. Widdersheim and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2023-05-22 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is the public sphere, how is it best described, and what role does it play in modern life? These questions have attracted considerable attention within library and information science circles over several decades, especially regarding public libraries. Circulation of Power contributes to this discussion by proposing a new research framework and new methods for analyzing public sphere communication. Using extensive data gathered from an urban public library infrastructure, this historical case study demonstrates how public sphere communication shaped the infrastructure’s development over time, producing both changes and continuities across the case’s nine periods. Two new conceptual tools—circuits and decisions cycles—form the study’s research framework, and a new explanatory theory—RLCr, or "Releaser," theory—accounts for why the infrastructure developed as it did. Consideration of competing theories reveals that public sphere communication remains the best explanation for infrastructural development. This book’s meticulous historical narrative of the greater Pittsburgh case, supplemented by its groundbreaking theory and innovative mixed methods design, is of interest to practitioners, academics, and general readers alike.

Book Software Engineering and Middleware

Download or read book Software Engineering and Middleware written by Thomas Gschwind and published by Springer. This book was released on 2005-03-31 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Middleware provides an integration framework for multiple and potentially - verse computing platforms. It allows developers to engineer distributed appli- tions more easily, providing abstractions and primitives to handle distribution and coordination. Middlewareisconstantlyfacingnewchallenges.Today’sadvancesincomp- ing, including development of pervasive applications, exacerbates the diversity problem, introducing variations not only in terms of performance, but also in terms of environments and device characteristics. Software engineers are the- fore challenged both in the area of the development of new and scalable m- dleware systems, where open, heterogeneous, component-based platforms should provide richer functionality and services, and in the area of application devel- ment, where tools to simplify the use of middleware solutions are necessary. Software Engineering and Middleware is the premier workshop for the - search and practice community of software engineering working in both areas to presentanddiscussnewideasinthis?eld.SEM2004wasthefourthinternational workshop on software engineering and middleware of the EDO/SEM workshop series. Previous workshops of this series were successfully held in 2002, 2000 and 1999. Most of the proceedings have been published by Springer in the Lecture Notes in Computer Science series.

Book Developments in Reliable Computing

Download or read book Developments in Reliable Computing written by Tibor Csendes and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The SCAN conference, the International Symposium on Scientific Com puting, Computer Arithmetic and Validated Numerics, takes place bian nually under the joint auspices of GAMM (Gesellschaft fiir Angewandte Mathematik und Mechanik) and IMACS (International Association for Mathematics and Computers in Simulation). SCAN-98 attracted more than 100 participants from 21 countries all over the world. During the four days from September 22 to 25, nine highlighted, plenary lectures and over 70 contributed talks were given. These figures indicate a large participation, which was partly caused by the attraction of the organizing country, Hungary, but also the effec tive support system have contributed to the success. The conference was substantially supported by the Hungarian Research Fund OTKA, GAMM, the National Technology Development Board OMFB and by the J6zsef Attila University. Due to this funding, it was possible to subsidize the participation of over 20 scientists, mainly from Eastern European countries. It is important that the possibly first participation of 6 young researchers was made possible due to the obtained support. The number of East-European participants was relatively high. These results are especially valuable, since in contrast to the usual 2 years period, the present meeting was organized just one year after the last SCAN-xx conference.
