Book Quantitative Geology of Late Jurassic Epicontinental Sediments in the Jura Mountains of Switzerland

Download or read book Quantitative Geology of Late Jurassic Epicontinental Sediments in the Jura Mountains of Switzerland written by Reinhart A. Gygi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-22 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book summarizes about 40 years of the author’s research on sedimentary geology in an epicontinental (shelf) sea during the Late Jurassic in northern Switzerland. It presents a synopsis of the interplay of varying paleoclimate, of sea level variations, of varying water depth, of sea floor topography, of vertical and lateral facies changes, of processes of sedimentation like aggradation and progradation, of compaction, of the great regional differences in rates of sedimentation and in isostatic equilibration of the lithosphere under load, and of concomitant synsedimentary tectonics. Regional variation in isostatic adjustment of the lithosphere to the increasing load of sediments is analyzed by means of time correlations based on a detailed biochronology of ammonites in combination with mineral stratigraphy using the comparatively stable clay mineral kaolinite, and with sequence stratigraphy.

Book Quantitative Geosciences Data Analytics Geostatistics Reservoir Characterization and Modeling

Download or read book Quantitative Geosciences Data Analytics Geostatistics Reservoir Characterization and Modeling written by Y. Z. Ma and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-07-15 with total page 640 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Earth science is becoming increasingly quantitative in the digital age. Quantification of geoscience and engineering problems underpins many of the applications of big data and artificial intelligence. This book presents quantitative geosciences in three parts. Part 1 presents data analytics using probability, statistical and machine-learning methods. Part 2 covers reservoir characterization using several geoscience disciplines: including geology, geophysics, petrophysics and geostatistics. Part 3 treats reservoir modeling, resource evaluation and uncertainty analysis using integrated geoscience, engineering and geostatistical methods. As the petroleum industry is heading towards operating oil fields digitally, a multidisciplinary skillset is a must for geoscientists who need to use data analytics to resolve inconsistencies in various sources of data, model reservoir properties, evaluate uncertainties, and quantify risk for decision making. This book intends to serve as a bridge for advancing the multidisciplinary integration for digital fields. The goal is to move beyond using quantitative methods individually to an integrated descriptive-quantitative analysis. In big data, everything tells us something, but nothing tells us everything. This book emphasizes the integrated, multidisciplinary solutions for practical problems in resource evaluation and field development.

Book Structural Geology

    Book Details:
  • Author : David D. Pollard
  • Publisher : Cambridge University Press
  • Release : 2020-07-23
  • ISBN : 1108661459
  • Pages : 454 pages

Download or read book Structural Geology written by David D. Pollard and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2020-07-23 with total page 454 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tackling structural geology problems today requires a quantitative understanding of the underlying physical principles, and the ability to apply mathematical models to deformation processes within the Earth. Accessible yet rigorous, this unique textbook demonstrates how to approach structural geology quantitatively using calculus and mechanics, and prepares students to interface with professional geophysicists and engineers who appreciate and utilize the same tools and computational methods to solve multidisciplinary problems. Clearly explained methods are used throughout the book to quantify field data, set up mathematical models for the formation of structures, and compare model results to field observations. An extensive online package of coordinated laboratory exercises enables students to consolidate their learning and put it into practice by analyzing structural data and building insightful models. Designed for single-semester undergraduate courses, this pioneering text prepares students for graduates studies and careers as professional geoscientists.

Book Quantitative Geophysics and Geology

Download or read book Quantitative Geophysics and Geology written by Louis Lliboutry and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2000-04-26 with total page 500 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is unique in bridging the gap between geology and geophysics. Its integrative approach presents students and researchers in these disciplines with other methodologies as they try to understand the Earth's processes. It runs the gamut of earth sciences, from earthquakes and seismic exploration to thermal convection and the orogenic processes. Each chapter starts with the well-established facts and then proceeds through a logical framework to the most conjectural questions, such as continental drift in Paleozoicc and Precambrian times or mantle convection. Many of the issues discussed here do not yet have unanimously agreed solutions, but the extensive references point the reader to further possibilities.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The return of the congress to North America after 20 years of absence could not have been in a more ideal location. The beauty of Banff and the many offerings of the Rocky Mountains was the perfect background for a week of interesting and innovative discussions on the past, present and future of geostatistics. The congress was well attended with approximately 200 delegates from 19 countries across six continents. There was a broad spectrum of students and seasoned geostatisticians who shared their knowledge in many areas of study including mining, petroleum, and environmental applications. You will find 119 papers in this two volume set. All papers were presented at the congress and have been peer-reviewed. They are grouped by the different sessions that were held in Banff and are in the order of presentation. These papers provide a permanent record of different theoretical perspectives from the last four years. Not all of these ideas will stand the test of time and practice; however, their originality will endure. The practical applications in these proceedings provide nuggets of wisdom to those struggling to apply geostatistics in the best possible way. Students and practitioners will be digging through these papers for many years to come. Oy Leuangthong Clayton V. Deutsch ACKNOWLEDGMENTS We would like to thank the industry sponsors who contributed generously to the overall success and quality of the congress: De Beers Canada Earth Decision Sciences Maptek Chile Ltda.
