Book Qigong for Christians

Download or read book Qigong for Christians written by Sylvia and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2019-11-21 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We all need healing in our lives today: healing from health issues; healing from broken hearts; healing from hopelessness in a chaotic world. Sylvia was one such person who desired healing in her life, dealing with personal challenges stemming from being raised in a broken home. Her parents divorced when Sylvia was six years old, and at age eighteen, her broken heart still had not mended. Having attended Christian churches throughout her childhood, Sylvia still felt in need of God's healing touch to handle the trials she was facing. Her prayers were answered in 2008, when she was introduced to Qigong meditation, a Chinese meditation that utilizes everything in a person (heart, mind, body, and spirit) to improve one's overall health and well-being. Sylvia soon became a dedicated student of Master Chunyi Lin, founder of Spring Forest Qigong, and implemented her Christian faith into her practice of Qigong meditation. The result is her new guide, Qigong for Christians: A Christ-Centered Healing Meditation, which brings twelve steps of meditative healing associated with Qigong together with the scriptural insight of the Bible. Sylvia is a strong believer in the power of connecting with God for direction in life, feeling God leading her as a child toward a career in nursing. She has worked in the nursing field since 1994, and has been a nurse practitioner for the past thirteen years. Her background in healthcare influences her appreciation for the comfort of Qigong, and the results she knows firsthand that it can bring. Each page guides readers easily through different meditation steps, visualizations, and mental exercises with Qigong, enhanced by Sylvia's direction of praising God and being aware of Jesus' sacrifices on the cross to restore our connection to God. Scripture references accompany each step to acquaint readers with the author's promptings of Biblical faith while doing Qigong meditation. As she witnessed the benefits of Qigong for Christians to herself physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually, Sylvia also wishes for readers to have their own personal experiences and improvements as they connect with God through this Jesus-centered healing meditation.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Max Sculley's definitive critique of Yoga, Tai Chi and Reiki comes with a timely warning that despite these practices' surface appeal for helping fitness, relaxation and health, they are closely linked to underlying Eastern philosophies that are incompatible with Christianity. Vatican documents, including one authored by the present Pope when he was Cardinal Ratzinger, have highlighted the spiritual dangers associated with methods of meditation associated with Eastern religions. Despite these warnings Yoga, Tai Chi and Reiki continue to be promoted in parishes, schools and religious orders. Max Sculley's detailed and well documented analysis of Yoga, Tai Chi and Reika includes gripping personal stories that bring home the dark side of these practices. This book needs to be widely circulated among teachers, clergy and religious.

Book excerpt: The last 50 years have seen the popularity of Chinese medicine grow exponentially. In China, Korea, Japan and Singapore, Chinese medicine has been incorporated into their healthcare systems to varying degrees. In the West, it is no longer uncommon for patients to consult Chinese medicine doctors, many of whom are non-Chinese. However, among Christians in many parts of the developed world, Chinese medicine is still viewed with suspicion and negativity. Are these fears justified? How can we better understand the roots and practices of Chinese medicine? The Dao of Healing takes us on an in-depth exploration of the histories and philosophies that have shaped both Western biomedicine and Chinese medicine in order that we might make informed judgements about them. If our call is to “love our neighbours”, we need to be able to dialogue with them on the basis of mutual respect and understanding. Let this book be the catalyst for meaningful and productive conversations across the divide.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Either you believe in possession or you do not. It is that simple, or at least that is how it often seems. However, the existence of the possession state in the human condition is not a matter of faith, it is a phenomenon that demands exploration." So begins the introduction of this psycho-spiritual exploration of involuntary (or demonic) possession. Avoiding the pitfalls of many such works, here is presented the inarguable fact that the possession state does occur and must be taken seriously if those who are afflicted are to be helped. The only argument that remains is the attributed cause of the state. Covering a comprehensive array of topics from the history of demonic possession to a present understanding of the phenomenology and intrapsychic dynamics of the possession state, the book also provides a depth of understanding with respect to the various forms of possession encountered throughout the world. Readers will also gain an understanding of the various cultural and psychological explanations for possession, including neuropsychological, hypnosis, and psychodynamic theories. It concludes with the examination of three cases of demonic possession and the presentation of diagnostic criteria to assist in differentiating possession from common forms of psychopathology.

"Hindu or other Eastern religious traditions that practice meditation have certain words or mantras...many Westerners, and especially those committed to a form of Christianity or Judaism, are reluctant to use these terms...the use of the mantra, which may include the names of Hindu gods, may actually have a negative effect and cause more unrest and anxiety than peace of mind if you don't believe them" " (Beyond the Relaxation Response, p. 107). This book presents biblical alternative to nonbiblical meditation. Getting a copy will be a profitable lifelong investment.

Book Qigong Fever

    Book Details:
  • Author : David A. Palmer
  • Publisher : Columbia University Press
  • Release : 2007-03-27
  • ISBN : 9780231511704
  • Pages : 380 pages

Download or read book Qigong Fever written by David A. Palmer and published by Columbia University Press. This book was released on 2007-03-27 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Qigong a regimen of body, breath, and mental training exercises was one of the most widespread cultural and religious movements of late-twentieth-century urban China. The practice was promoted by senior Communist Party leaders as a uniquely Chinese healing tradition and as a harbinger of a new scientific revolution, yet the movement's mass popularity and the almost religious devotion of its followers led to its ruthless suppression. In this absorbing and revealing book, David A. Palmer relies on a combination of historical, anthropological, and sociological perspectives to describe the spread of the qigong craze and its reflection of key trends that have shaped China since 1949, including the search for a national identity and an emphasis on the absolute authority of science. Qigong offered the promise of an all-powerful technology of the body rooted in the mysteries of Chinese culture. However, after 1995 the scientific underpinnings of qigong came under attack, its leaders were denounced as charlatans, and its networks of followers, notably Falungong, were suppressed as "evil cults." According to Palmer, the success of the movement proves that a hugely important religious dimension not only survived under the CCP but was actively fostered, if not created, by high-ranking party members. Tracing the complex relationships among the masters, officials, scientists, practitioners, and ideologues involved in qigong, Palmer opens a fascinating window on the transformation of Chinese tradition as it evolved along with the Chinese state. As he brilliantly demonstrates, the rise and collapse of the qigong movement is key to understanding the politics and culture of post-Mao society.

Book The Battle for China s Spirit

Download or read book The Battle for China s Spirit written by Sarah Cook and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2017-05-16 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Battle for China’s Spirit is the first comprehensive analysis of its kind, focusing on seven major religious groups in China that together account for over 350 million believers: Chinese Buddhism, Taoism, Catholicism, Protestantism, Islam, Tibetan Buddhism, and Falun Gong. The study examines the evolution of the Communist Party’s policies of religious control, how they are applied differently to diverse faith communities, and how citizens are responding to these policies. The study—which draws on hundreds of official documents and interviews with religious leaders, lay believers, and scholars—finds that Chinese government controls over religion have intensified since November 2012, seeping into new areas of daily life. Yet millions of religious believers defy official restrictions or engage in some form of direct protest, at times scoring significant victories. The report explores how these dynamics affect China’s overall social, political, and economic environment, while offering recommendations to both the Chinese government and international actors for how to increase the space for peaceful religious practice in a country where spirituality has been deeply embedded in its culture for millennia.

Download or read book The Warrior written by Charles J. Pettitt and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2014-12-05 with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Warrior" Endorsement "The Warrior" brought back many memories of the past in my life and some current day battles I still face. As a former UFC and Pride fighter I faced many of the same ridicule and resistance from the "Religious" community and personal friends. People would ask me daily how I could be a Christian yet get into a cage and battle. The sport then still banned on Network television and the political resistance of it becoming a mainstream sport made acceptance difficult. This book helps explain how God uses his followers in all areas and aspects of life not just in Church. I have always thought I was used to spread the glory of Jesus and had a captive audience every time I fought. It was an opportunity to spread the Love of Christ in what could be a dark place. A chance to give God the glory for my victory's when the microphone was handed to me, and quote a scripture verse pointing my finger at Jesus and not myself. Physical Sports such as MMA are no different than going to school as a teacher. It's an opportunity to give God the glory, and profess your love for an awesome God. "The Warrior" is one more way we as believers can help others have the piece that we all need. I highly recommend this book to all!" Ron Waterman, first WEC super heavyweight champion and former UFC, WWE, Pancrase and Pride Fighting Championship professional fighter. Ron is the Author of "Tapped Out by Jesus" from the cage to the cross.
