Download or read book Critical Currents In Superconductors Proceedings Of The 7th International Workshop written by H W Weber and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1994-08-31 with total page 716 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Applications of superconductivity at the boiling temperature of liquid nitrogen continue to challenge physicists, materials scientists and engineers all over the world eight years after the discovery of high temperature superconductivity. The key to a solution of today's problems lies in the optimization of the defect structure in well-oriented oxide materials as well as in a fundamental understanding of the magnetic microstructures in the mixed state and how they are affected by the crystallographic nature ('dimensionality') of these materials. Fifteen invited overview lectures as well as approximately 150 contributed papers highlight the state of the art in this important field of superconductivity and review our current knowledge of critical currents in superconductors.
Download or read book Phase Separation In Cuprate Superconductors Proceedings Of The Workshop written by Karl Alex Muller and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1993-01-08 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main objective of this workshop was to review and discuss the electronic and chemical properties of layered cuprate superconductors. These are doped antiferromagnetic (AFM) insulators, and there is the possibility of a dynamic phase separation into metallic clusters and AFM areas. A clarification on the existence and the mechanism of such a phase separation is believed to be crucial for the understanding of high-Tc superconductivity in cuprates. On the one hand, theoretical and recent experimental indications in favor of this possibility were presented, on the other hand experimental papers expressing more skeptical views were also delivered. Related work on phase separations of chemical and structural origin was also included, followed by contributions on the question; “If phase separation is present, what is the pairing mechanism in the metallic clusters?”.

This book was released on 2005-07-27 with total page 387 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Processing in magnetic fields is a rapidly expanding research area with a wide range of promising applications in materials science, development and design. Numerous research centers dedicated to materials research and processing in magnetic fields have been created around the world. This volume brings together contributions from these centers to review the most recent activities in this field. The papers in this book cover a broad spectrum of research of the effects on magnetic fields in materials processing. The cutting-edge research topics include magnetic levitation of diamagnetic matter and its applications; anisotropy, used for aligning fibers, polymers, and carbon nanotubes; texturing of materials during a phase transition, in both liquid-to-solid and solid-to-solid state transitions; grain boundary migration and mobility changes, giving us a perspective for texture development in metals; and the damping effect of magnetic fields on conductive liquids, which has been exploited for improved crystal growth quality. Of growing interest are the effects of magnetic fields in biology, and their beneficial applications for medical treatments.

Download or read book Proceedings of the International Workshop on Physics and Technology of Thin Films written by Alireza Zaker Moshfegh and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2004 with total page 549 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thin film science and technology plays an important role in the high-tech industries. The production of thin films for device purposes has been developed over the past 40 years. Thin films as a two-dimensional system are of great importance to many real-world problems. Their material costs are very small as compared to the corresponding bulk material and they perform the same function when it comes to surface processes. Thus, knowledge and determination of the nature, functions and new properties of thin films can be used for the development of new technologies for future applications. Some of the important applications of thin films are microelectronics, communications, optical electronics, catalysis, coating of all kinds, and energy generation and conservation strategies. This book emphasizes the importance of thin films in new technologies. It presents basic concepts, techniques, materials, processing and applications of thin films. As thin film physics and technology is a multidisciplinary filed, the book will be useful to a wide variety of readers (especially young researchers) in physics, electronic engineering, materials science and metallurgy.

Download or read book Architecture and Design of Molecule Logic Gates and Atom Circuits written by Nicolas Lorente and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-02-01 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Have you ever puzzled over how to perform Boolean logic at the atomic scale? Or wondered how you can carry out more general calculations in one single molecule or using a surface dangling bond atomic scale circuit? This volume gives you an update on the design of single molecule devices, such as recitfiers, switches and transistors, more advanced semi-classical and quantum boolean gates integrated in a single molecule or constructed atom by atom on a passivated semi-conductor surface and describes their interconnections with adapted nano-scale wiring. The main contributors to the field of single molecule logic gates and surface dangling bond atomic scale circuits theory and design, were brought together for the first time to contribute on topics such as molecule circuits, surface dangling bond circuits, quantum controlled logic gates and molecular qubits. Contributions in this volume originate from the Barcelona workshop of the AtMol conference series, held from January 12-13 2012.

Download or read book Introduction to Magnetism and Magnetic Materials Second Edition written by David C. Jiles and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1998-06-16 with total page 572 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Few subjects in science are more difficult to understand than magnetism, according to Encyclopedia Britannica. However, there is a strong demand today for scientists and engineers with skills in magnetism because of the growing number of technological applications utilizing this phenomenon. This textbook responds to the need for a comprehensive introduction of the basic concepts of the science. Introduction to Magnetism and Magnetic Materials has been thoroughly revised since the first edition to include recent developments in the field. The early chapters comprise a discussion of the fundamentals of magnetism. These chapters include more than 60 sample problems with complete solutions to reinforce learning. The later chapters review the most significant recent developments in four important areas of magnetism: hard and soft magnetic materials, magnetic recording, and magnetic evaluation of materials. These later chapters also provide a survey of the most important areas of magnetic materials for practical applications. Extensive references to the principal publications in magnetism are listed at the end of each chapter, which offer the reader rapid access to more specialized literature. Students in various scientific areas will benefit from this book, including those in physics, materials science, metallurgy, and electrical engineering.
