Download or read book High Energy Neutrino Astrophysics Proceedings Of The Workshop written by V J Stenger and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1992-09-30 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The proceedings of this workshop consideres the prospects for opening up a new window on the universe with the generation of High Energy Neutrino telescopes now under construction or being planned. Potential sources of high energy neutrinos such as binary pulsars, supernovae, and active galactic nuclei are discussed. In particular, the recent model of Stecker and collaborators, in which neutrinos with energies as high as 1000 TeV are produced in measurable quantities in the cores of quasars and other active galaxies is critically reviewed.

Book Science with the New Generation of High Energy Gamma Ray Experiments

Download or read book Science with the New Generation of High Energy Gamma Ray Experiments written by Denis Bastieri and published by American Institute of Physics. This book was released on 2009-05-15 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the sixth edition in a series of Workshops on High Energy Gamma-Ray Experiments, following the ones held in Perugia (2002), Bari (2004), Cividale del Friuli (2005), Elba Island (2006) and Villa Mondragone (2007). The year the focus is on the region known by the acronym VHE (Very High Energy), bridging the gap between GeV and TeV. The physics that lies in this region is of the utmost importance to improve our knowledge of many different astrophysical sources like pulsars, AGNs, GRBs, and our understanding of the main components of the Extragalactic Background Light (EBL). An update is given on the current and planned research for spaceborne and ground-based experiments dedicated to the observation of the gamma-ray sky.

Book Gamma ray and Neutrino Signatures of Galactic Cosmic ray Accelerators

Download or read book Gamma ray and Neutrino Signatures of Galactic Cosmic ray Accelerators written by Silvia Celli and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-12-17 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses three “hot” topics concerning the general problem of the origin of Galactic cosmic rays, namely (1) the acceleration, propagation, and radiation of particles in supernova remnants; (2) very high energy neutrinos from the Galactic Center; and (3) the potential held by the next-generation gamma-ray and neutrino detectors CTA and KM3NeT for studying extended non-thermal sources in the Galaxy. The topics are intrinsically connected to determining the nature (“hadronic or leptonic?”) of gamma-ray emissions from young and middle-aged supernova remnants and the search for cosmic-ray PeVatrons. The results and conclusions provided here are based on extensive analytical and numerical simulations, which are formulated and presented in a straightforward format that can be readily used in the interpretations of gamma-ray and neutrino observations, as well as for confident predictions for future measurements.

Book Cosmo 97 Proceedings Of The First International Workshop On Particle Physics And The Early Universe

Download or read book Cosmo 97 Proceedings Of The First International Workshop On Particle Physics And The Early Universe written by Leszek Roszkowski and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1998-09-22 with total page 603 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Deciphering the script for the Big Bang has now become a joint effort of particle physicists and cosmologists. The origin and first moments of the early Universe were determined by the same fundamental processes which are studied in terrestrial accelerators and whose traces from the early Universe can be seen in astrophysical observations. It is now almost universally accepted that most of the debris left over from the Big Bang is likely to be in the form of particle dark matter. Identifying its nature and measuring its abundance in the Universe have become major goals of theorists and experimentalists alike. This volume reviews the progress made at the frontiers of research in these rapidly expanding fields. A broad range of topics, from inflation to primordial black holes to physics at the Planck era, and to dark matter and neutrinos — both reviews and reports on the most recent advances — is presented by leaders in the field.

Book Science with the New Generation of High Energy Gamma Ray Experiments

Download or read book Science with the New Generation of High Energy Gamma Ray Experiments written by Claudia Cecchi and published by American Institute of Physics. This book was released on 2010-04-27 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book collects contributions presented in the seventh edition in a series of Workshop on High Energy Gamma-ray Experiments. The focus of the Workshop was on Gamma-ray Physics in the LHC Era. In order to understand the origin of the Universe reaserchers are nowadays using two powerful and complementary approaches. On one side radiation produced many years ago and now arriving to us from space, is studied with different experimental techniques. On the other one, particle accelerators can recreate in laboratory the high density high energy state present at the beginning of the Universe. Results are here presented from experiments in space, on earth and underground, regarding cosmic radiation.

Book Neutrinos In The New Millennium Proceedings Of The Johns Hopkins Workshop On Current Problems In Particle Theory 23

Download or read book Neutrinos In The New Millennium Proceedings Of The Johns Hopkins Workshop On Current Problems In Particle Theory 23 written by Gabor Domokos and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2000-07-12 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The physics of neutrinos has acquired a rapidly increasing role within the realm of particle physics. Recognized as an elusive particle since the prediction of its existence by Pauli and its incorporation into particle theory by Fermi in the early thirties, the neutrino was first observed some twenty years later by Reines and Cowan. Experiments carried out by Lederman, Schwartz, Steinberger et al. first revealed the existence of several species of neutrinos. By now, neutrino physics has matured to the point where detailed properties of neutrinos and their mixing can be studied by a number of experiments carried out in various high energy laboratories. Such experiments are relevant not only from viewpoint of understanding the properties of elementary particles, but also the early history of the Universe. This volume discusses the most recent experimental and theoretical results in that exciting area of particle physics.

Book Proceedings of the 6th International Workshop on the Identification of Dark Matter

Download or read book Proceedings of the 6th International Workshop on the Identification of Dark Matter written by Minos Axenides and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2007 with total page 704 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is the latest in a prominent biannual series of scientific meetings on the exciting research topics of dark matter and, more recently, of dark energy. It contains a state-of-the-art update on detection efforts by experimental groups around the world trying to pin down exotic new forms of matter under the names of axions, neutralinos, wimps, primordial black holes, q balls, sterile neutrinos, as well as a tantalizing new form of dark energy component called phantom energy and quintessence. The book is self-contained as it also includes general reviews on recent cosmological observations OCo supernovae measurements, cosmic matter distribution surveys and cosmic radiation anisotropies OCo introducing even the uninitiated reader to this fascinating frontier of research."
