Download or read book Direct Engineering Toward Intelligent Manufacturing written by Ali K. Kamrani and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Direct Engineering (DE) is the creation of a product development cycle into a single, unified process. The design process in most industries is an evolutionary one (i.e., incremental changes to some existing design). DE is a manufacturing process that seeks to improve the design processes by providing complete archival documentation of existing designs. It uses three-dimensional geometric models with integrated manufacturing information throughout the design process. DE reduces the design cycle, and the variety and number of engineering changes. This process decreases the design cycle time, increases productivity, and provides a higher quality product. The required technologies and methodologies that will support the development of the DE environment are: (1) product representation using feature-based modeling; (2) knowledge-based applications that will support the entire product development cycle; (3) an engineering environment implemented around distributed computing and object-oriented systems; (4) direct manufacturing techniques using rapid prototyping. Direct Engineering: Toward Intelligent Manufacturing addresses the following recent topics related to the development, implementation, and integration of the DE environment: (1) the current scope of the research in intelligent manufacturing; (2) the results of the technologies and tools developed for integrated product and process designs, and (3) examination of the methodologies and algorithms used for the implementation of direct engineering.

Download or read book Logistics and Transportation written by Raja G. Kasilingam and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Logistics is a $700 billion industry in the USA and is the second largest employer of college graduates. Logistics costs account for nearly 30% of the sales dollar, and logistics activities are essential to satisfying the ever- changing customer demand in terms of variety and availability. Today the need for cutting edge, sophisticated logistics practices has never been greater. This unique text is squarely focused on the key activities within the functional areas of logistics and transportation, with emphasis placed on the quantitative treatment of the design and planning issues in logistics. In scope, Logistics and Transportation comprehensively covers almost all the elements of the supply chain. Moreover, it includes a number of topics that are generally not covered by most popular logistics texts. These include functional areas such as: vendor selection, inventory models with inventory costs, advanced transportation models, logistics metrics, and latest trends in logistics. The text is primarily designed for use in the classroom by senior undergraduate and graduate-level students. It is also a useful resource for practicing transportation and logistics professionals. Readers will appreciate the references for recommended further reading, related training aids and problem sets given at the end of each chapter, as well as the two comprehensive logistics cases presented at the end of the text.

This book was released on 2021-09-15 with total page 716 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents key advances in intelligent information technologies for industry. This book of Lecture Notes in Networks and Systems contains the papers presented in the main track of IITI 2021, the Fifth International Scientific Conference on Intelligent Information Technologies for Industry held on September 30 – October 4, 2021 in Sirius, Russia. The conference was jointly co-organized by Rostov State Transport University (Russia) and VŠB–Technical University of Ostrava (Czech Republic) with the participation of Russian Association for Artificial Intelligence (RAAI) and Sirius University (Russia). IITI 2021 was devoted to practical models and industrial applications related to intelligent information systems. It was considered as a meeting point for researchers and practitioners to enable the implementation of advanced information technologies into various industries. Nevertheless, some theoretical talks concerning the state of the art in intelligent systems and soft computing were also included into proceedings. There were 180 paper submissions from 14 countries. Each submission was reviewed by at least three chairs or PC members. We accepted 69 regular papers (38\%). Unfortunately, due to limitations of conference topics and edited volumes, the Program Committee was forced to reject some interesting papers, which did not satisfy these topics or publisher requirements. We would like to thank all authors and reviewers for their work and valuable contributions. The friendly and welcoming attitude of conference supporters and contributors made this event a success!

This book was released on 2020-12-29 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Special Issue comprises selected papers from the proceedings of the 5th International Electronic Conference on Sensors and Applications, held on 15–30 November 2018, on sciforum.net, an online platform for hosting scholarly e-conferences and discussion groups. In this 5th edition of the electronic conference, contributors were invited to provide papers and presentations from the field of sensors and applications at large, resulting in a wide variety of excellent submissions and topic areas. Papers which attracted the most interest on the web or that provided a particularly innovative contribution were selected for publication in this collection. These peer-reviewed papers are published with the aim of rapid and wide dissemination of research results, developments, and applications. We hope this conference series will grow rapidly in the future and become recognized as a new way and venue by which to (electronically) present new developments related to the field of sensors and their applications.

Download or read book Systems Engineering for Business Process Change New Directions written by Peter Henderson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 395 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Systems Engineering for Business Process Change: New Directions is a collection of papers resulting from an EPSRC managed research programme set up to investigate the relationships between Legacy IT Systems and Business Processes. The papers contained in this volume report the results from the projects funded by the programme, which ran between 1997 and 2001. An earlier volume, published in 2000, reported interim results. Bringing together researchers from diverse backgrounds in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering and Business Schools, this book explores the problems experienced by IT-dependent businesses that have to implement changing business processes in the context of their investment in legacy systems. The book presents some of the solutions investigated through the collaborations set up within the research programme. Whether you are a researcher interested in the ideas that were generated by the research programme, or a user trying to understand the nature of the problems and their solutions, you cannot fail to be inspired by the writings contained in this volume.
