Book The Unnormalized Relational Data Model

Download or read book The Unnormalized Relational Data Model written by Hiroyuki Kitagawa and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computer Science Workbench is a monograph series which will provide you with an in-depth working knowledge of current developments in computer technology. Every volume in this series will deal with a topic of importance in computer science and elaborate on how you yourself can build systems related to the main theme. You will be able to develop a variety of systems, including computer software tools, computer graphics, computer animation, database management systems, and computer-aided design and manufacturing systems. Computer Science Workbench represents an important new contribution in the field of practical computer technology. TOSIYASU L. KUNII Preface The evolution of database systems research is itself a story. Long after the emergence of systems derived from practical applications, Codd's relational data model has gradually occupied the theoretical domain of database systems and is moving into the realms of practical use. Certainly, the theoretical foundation makes database design, validation, and testing easier. However, Cod d's model allows only fiat tables to be handled, while most business and engineering data in practice are in nested table forms. Thus, a recent major obstacle in database systems development is the large gap between the theory and the practice.

Download or read book Languages for Automation written by Shi-Kuo Chang and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-09 with total page 526 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two central ideas in the movement toward advanced automation systems are the office-of-the-future (or office automation system), and the factory of-the-future (or factory automation system). An office automation system is an integrated system with diversified office equipment, communication devices, intelligent terminals, intelligent copiers, etc., for providing information management and control in a dis tributed office environment. A factory automation system is also an inte grated system with programmable machine tools, robots, and other pro cess equipment such as new "peripherals," for providing manufacturing information management and control. Such advanced automation systems can be regarded as the response to the demand for greater variety, greater flexibility, customized designs, rapid response, and 'Just-in-time" delivery of office services or manufac tured goods. The economy of scope, which allows the production of a vari ety of similar products in random order, gradually replaces the economy of scale derived from overall volume of operations. In other words, we are gradually switching from the production of large volumes of standard products to systems for the production of a wide variety of similar products in small batches. This is the phenomenon of "demassification" of the marketplace, as described by Alvin Toffier in The Third Wave.

Book Global Information Systems

Download or read book Global Information Systems written by Dorothy E. Leidner and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2008 with total page 495 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Information technology has had a major impact on individuals, organizations and society over the past 50 years. There are few organizations that can afford to ignore IT and few individuals who would prefer to be without it. As managerial tasks become more complex, so the nature of the required information systems (IS) changes - from structured, routine support to ad hoc, complex enquiries at the highest levels of management. Global Information Systems aims to present the many complex and inter-related issues associated with culture in the management of information systems. The editors have selected a wide range of contemporary articles from leading experts in North America and Europe that represent a wide variety of different national and cultural environments. They offer valid explanations for, rather than simply pointing out cultural differences in articles that cover a variety of national cultures, including: China, Egypt, Finland, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Jamaica, Peru South Korea, Kuwait, Mexico, Singapore, Sweden, the United Arab Emirate, the UK, and the US.

Book Performance Engineering

Download or read book Performance Engineering written by Reiner Dumke and published by Springer. This book was released on 2003-06-29 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Initially, computer systems performance analyses were carried out primarily because of limited resources. Due to ever increasing functional complexity of computational systems and user requirements, performance engineering continues to play a major role in software development. This book assesses the state of the art in performance engineering. Besides revised chapters drawn from two workshops on performance engineering held in 2000, additional chapters were solicited in order to provide complete coverage of all relevant aspects. The first part is devoted to the relation between software engineering and performance engineering; the second part focuses on the use of models, measures, and tools; finally, case studies with regard to concrete technologies are presented. Researchers, professional software engineers, and advanced students interested in performance analysis will find this book an indispensable source of information and reference.

Book Persistent Object Systems

    Book Details:
  • Author : John Rosenberg
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2012-12-06
  • ISBN : 1447131738
  • Pages : 412 pages

Download or read book Persistent Object Systems written by John Rosenberg and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Persistent object systems are systems which support the creation and manipulation of objects in a uniform manner, regardless of how long they persist. This is in direct contrast with conventional systems where temporary objects are created and manipulated using one mechanism (typically programming language data structures) and permanent objects are maintained using a different mechanism (usually a filestore). The unification of temporary and permanent objects yields systems which are smaller and more efficient than conventional systems and which provide a powerful and flexible platform for the development of large, data intensive applications. This volume presents the proceedings of a workshop at which latest research in this area was discussed. The papers are grouped into sections on the following topics: type systems and persistence, persistent programming languages, implementing persistence, object stores, measurement of persistent systems, transactions and persistence, and persistent machines.
