Book Procedures for Development of CBR Design Curves

Download or read book Procedures for Development of CBR Design Curves written by A. Taboza Pereira and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The pattern of design relations for flexible pavements was established and reported in WES Instruction Report 4. This pattern has been modified in recent years and new relations established. This report presents the current procedures for determining flexible pavement thickness requirements. The CBR-thickness relationship can be portrayed by an equation or by a combined CBR curve. This report shows how, by use of equivalent single-wheel loads, the single-wheel design criteria can be applied to any multiple-wheel configuration. Means are also presented for developing either single-wheel or multiple-wheel design criteria for various levels of usage based on load repetitions. A detailed example demonstrating equivalent single-wheel load determinations, pass-per-coverage relationships, and thickness requirements is presented.

Book Accelerated Pavement Testing to Transport Infrastructure Innovation

Download or read book Accelerated Pavement Testing to Transport Infrastructure Innovation written by Armelle Chabot and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-08-25 with total page 724 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume gathers the latest advances, innovations, and applications in the field of accelerated pavement testing (APT), presented at the 6th International Conference on Accelerated Pavement Testing, in Nantes, France, in April 2022. Discussing APT, which involves rapid testing of full-scale pavement constructions for structural deterioration, the book covers topics such as APT facilities, APT of asphalt concrete and sustainable/innovative materials, APT for airfield pavements, testing of maintenance and rehabilitation solutions, testing of smart and multi-functional pavements, data analysis and modeling, monitoring and non-destructive testing, and efficient means of calibrating/developing pavement design methods. Featuring peer-reviewed contributions by leading international researchers and engineers, the book is a timely and highly relevant resource for materials scientists and engineers interested in determining the performance of pavement structures during their service life (10+ years) in a few weeks or months.

Book The Design of Aircraft Landing Gear

Download or read book The Design of Aircraft Landing Gear written by Robert Kyle Schmidt and published by SAE International. This book was released on 2021-02-18 with total page 1092 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aircraft landing gear and its associated systems represent a compelling design challenge: simultaneously a system, a structure, and a machine, it supports the aircraft on the ground, absorbs landing and braking energy, permits maneuvering, and retracts to minimize aircraft drag. Yet, as it is not required during flight, it also represents dead weight and significant effort must be made to minimize its total mass. The Design of Aircraft Landing Gear, written by R. Kyle Schmidt, PE (B.A.Sc. - Mechanical Engineering, M.Sc. - Safety and Aircraft Accident Investigation, Chairman of the SAE A-5 Committee on Aircraft Landing Gear), is designed to guide the reader through the key principles of landing system design and to provide additional references when available. Many problems which must be confronted have already been addressed by others in the past, but the information is not known or shared, leading to the observation that there are few new problems, but many new people. The Design of Aircraft Landing Gear is intended to share much of the existing information and provide avenues for further exploration. The design of an aircraft and its associated systems, including the landing system, involves iterative loops as the impact of each modification to a system or component is evaluated against the whole. It is rare to find that the lightest possible landing gear represents the best solution for the aircraft: the lightest landing gear may require attachment structures which don't exist and which would require significant weight and compromise on the part of the airframe structure design. With those requirements and compromises in mind,The Design of Aircraft Landing Gear starts with the study of airfield compatibility, aircraft stability on the ground, the correct choice of tires, followed by discussion of brakes, wheels, and brake control systems. Various landing gear architectures are investigated together with the details of shock absorber designs. Retraction, kinematics, and mechanisms are studied as well as possible actuation approaches. Detailed information on the various hydraulic and electric services commonly found on aircraft, and system elements such as dressings, lighting, and steering are also reviewed. Detail design points, the process of analysis, and a review of the relevant requirements and regulations round out the book content. The Design of Aircraft Landing Gear is a landmark work in the industry, and a must-read for any engineer interested in updating specific skills and students preparing for an exciting career.

Book Structural Behavior of Asphalt Pavements

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Structural Behavior of Asphalt Pavements provides engineers and researchers with a detailed guide to the structural behavioral dynamics of asphalt pavement including: pavement temperature distribution, mechanistic response of pavement structure under the application of heavy vehicles, distress mechanism of pavement, and pavement deterioration performance and dynamic equations. An authoritative guide for understanding the key mechanisms for creating longer lasting pavements, Structural Behavior of Asphalt Pavements describes the intrinsic consistency between macroscopic performance and microscopic response, structure and material, as well as global and local performances, and demonstrates the process of pavement analyses and designs, approaching science from empirical analyses. Analyzes the external and internal factors influencing pavement temperature field, and provide a review of existing pavement temperature prediction models Introduces a “Bridge Principle through which pavement performance and fatigue properties are consolidated Defines the intrinsic consistency between macroscopic performance and microscopic response, structure and material, as well as global and local performance Summaries the mechanistic response of pavement structure under the application of heavy vehicle, distress mechanism of pavement, pavement deterioration performance and dynamic equations, and life cycle analysis of pavement
