Book Search for Flavor Changing Neutral Current Top Quark Decays t Hq with H bb in pp Collisions at s 8 TeV with the ATLAS Detector

Download or read book Search for Flavor Changing Neutral Current Top Quark Decays t Hq with H bb in pp Collisions at s 8 TeV with the ATLAS Detector written by Shota Tsiskaridze and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-08-02 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This PhD thesis focuses on the search for flavor-changing neutral currents in the decay of a top quark to an up-type quark (q = u, c) and the Standard Model Higgs boson, where the Higgs boson decays to bb. Further, the thesis presents the combination of this search for top quark pair events with other ATLAS searches – in the course of which the most restrictive bounds to date on tqH interactions were obtained. Following on from the discovery of the Higgs boson, it is particularly important to measure the Yukawa couplings of the Standard Model fermions; these parameters may provide crucial insights to help solve the flavor puzzle and may help reveal the presence of new physics before it is directly observed in experiments.

This book was released on 2000-07-20 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Of late, the fields of astroparticle physics, particle physics and nuclear physics have been developing at a dramatic speed. This book constitutes the proceedings of a symposium intended to highlight some of the main directions being pursued in these related areas, and to seek a commonality among them. The symposium was held to honor the many achievements of Professor Adrian Melissinos, who has contributed to most of the developments addressed at the meeting.

  • Publisher : World Scientific
  • Release : 1995-08-31
  • ISBN : 9814549215
  • Pages : 650 pages

Download or read book Beyond The Standard Model Iv written by Tao Han and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1995-08-31 with total page 650 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These proceedings contain over 100 talks on all aspects of Physics Beyond the Standard Model of the strong and electroweak interactions — ranging from Supersymmetry, Grand Unification, Technicolor, Exotic Particles, and CP Violation to Baryogenesis, Dark Matter, Strings and Black Holes — by leading authorities and the most active researchers in High Energy Physics. The goal of the conference is to provide a completely current summary of the most exciting and aesthetically appealing theoretical ideas, especially with regard to their predictions for yet undiscovered new particles, interactions and consequent phenomena. Particular emphasis is placed on current experimental limits and constraints on new physics, and on expectations and predictions regarding our ability to probe and discriminate between the many possibilities through experiments at present and future colliders in the decade(s) to come.

Book Flavor Physics and the TeV Scale

Download or read book Flavor Physics and the TeV Scale written by George W. S. Hou and published by Springer. This book was released on 2009-06-10 with total page 151 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ?avor sector carries the largest number of parameters in the Standard Model of particle physics. With no evident symmetry principle behind its existence, it is not as well understood as the SU(3)×SU(2)×U(1) gauge interactions. Yet it tends to be underrated, sometimes even ignored, by the erudite. This is especially so on the verge of the LHC era, where the exploration of the physics of electroweak symmetry breaking at the high energy frontier would soon be the main thrust of the ?eld. Yet, the question of “Who ordered the muon?” by I. I. Rabi lingers. We do not understand why there is “family” (or generation) replication. That three generations are needed to have CP violation is a partial answer. We do not understand why there are only three generations, but Nature insists on (just about) only three active neutrinos. But then the CP violation with three generations fall far short of what is needed to generate the baryon asymmetry of the Universe. We do not understand why most fermions are so light on the weak symmetry breaking scale (v. e. v. ), yet the third-generation top quark is a v. e. v. scale particle. We do not understand why quarks and leptons look so different, in particular, why neutrinos are rather close to being massless, but then have (at least two) near maximal mixing angles. We shall not, however, concern ourselves with the neutrino sector. It has a life of its own.

Book The Standard Model and Beyond

Download or read book The Standard Model and Beyond written by Paul Langacker and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2009-12-01 with total page 648 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Standard Model and Beyond presents an advanced introduction to the physics and formalism of the standard model and other non-abelian gauge theories. It provides a solid background for understanding supersymmetry, string theory, extra dimensions, dynamical symmetry breaking, and cosmology. The book first reviews calculational techniques in field theory and the status of quantum electrodynamics. It then focuses on global and local symmetries and the construction of non-abelian gauge theories, before explaining the structure and tests of quantum chromodynamics. The book also describes the electroweak interactions and theory, including neutrino masses. The final chapter discusses the motivations for extending the standard model and examines supersymmetry, extended gauge groups, and grand unification. Thoroughly covering gauge field theories, symmetries, and topics beyond the standard model, this text equips readers with the tools to understand the structure and phenomenological consequences of the standard model, to construct extensions, and to perform calculations at tree level. It establishes the necessary background for readers to carry out more advanced research in particle physics. Supplementary materials are provided on the author’s website and a solutions manual is available for qualifying instructors.
