Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Here is a simple guide to solving the problems that arise in assessing the odds in play at bridge. Keeping theory to a minimum, the authors show by means of many practical examples how to calculate the odds and how to come up with the right answer at the bridge table. Anyone who learns to apply the principles set out in this book need never again be accused of playing against the odds. 'The most useful publication in the past twelve months . . . I unhesitatingly award my accolade to Bridge Odds for Practical Players because every player should know the material it contains. This cannot be found elsewhere.' The Times

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Selecting the best line of play in a bridge hand as declarer is not easy. In this book of novice to intermediate bridge problems, Eddie Kantar shows the reader how to do this - there is always a line of play that will allow you to take all your chances, and bring home your contract.

Book Bridge Collapse Frequencies versus Failure Probabilities

Download or read book Bridge Collapse Frequencies versus Failure Probabilities written by Dirk Proske and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-02-22 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph provides a comparative study between failure probabilities and collapse frequencies in structural bridge engineering. The author presents techniques to resolve and extend the limitations of both parameters, taking also into account the time dependency of both parameters. The book includes available data and case studies and thus presents patterns to identify potential weaknesses and challenges in bridge maintenance. The target audience primarily comprises practicing engineers in the field of bridge engineering, but the book may also be beneficial for academic researchers alike.

Book Bridge Odds for Practical Players

Download or read book Bridge Odds for Practical Players written by Hugh Walter Kelsey and published by Weidenfeld & Nicolson. This book was released on 2001 with total page 125 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Anyone who learns the principals set out in this book need never again be accused of playing against the odds. Backing outsiders has ruined many a punter at the bridge table as well as at the race track. Few players have any idea of how to harness the odds to solve problems that constantly recur. Which is the best line of play? Is it better to finesse or play for the drop? Will the diamonds break? Can the chances be combined? What are the exact odds? Here is a simple guide to solving the problems that arise in assessing the odds in play at bridge. Keeping theory to a minimum, the authors show by means of many practical examples how to calculate the odds and how to come up with the right answer at the bridge table. Anyone who learns to apply the principles set out in this book need never again be accused of playing against the odds.

Book The Mathematical Theory of Bridge 134 Probability Tables Their Uses Simple Formulas Applications and about 4000 Probabilities

Download or read book The Mathematical Theory of Bridge 134 Probability Tables Their Uses Simple Formulas Applications and about 4000 Probabilities written by Emile Borel and published by Master Point Press. This book was released on 2017-11-20 with total page 536 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 134 Probability tables, their uses, simple formulas, applications & 4000 probabilities Originally published in 1940, and revised in 1954, this classic work on mathematics and probability as applied to Bridge first appeared in English translation in 1974, but has been unavailable for many years. This new edition corrects numerical errors found in earlier texts; it revises the previous English translation where needed and corrects a number of textual and typographical errors in the 1974 edition. Tables have been included again in the text, as they were in the original edition. The chapter on Contract and Plafond scoring has been retained as continuing to serve its intended purpose. The chapters on shuffling, although no longer applicable to Duplicate Bridge, are included for the benefit of those interested in the mathematics of all card games. All, it is hoped, without too many new errors being introduced.

Book Discrete Choice Methods with Simulation

Download or read book Discrete Choice Methods with Simulation written by Kenneth Train and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2009-07-06 with total page 399 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes the new generation of discrete choice methods, focusing on the many advances that are made possible by simulation. Researchers use these statistical methods to examine the choices that consumers, households, firms, and other agents make. Each of the major models is covered: logit, generalized extreme value, or GEV (including nested and cross-nested logits), probit, and mixed logit, plus a variety of specifications that build on these basics. Simulation-assisted estimation procedures are investigated and compared, including maximum stimulated likelihood, method of simulated moments, and method of simulated scores. Procedures for drawing from densities are described, including variance reduction techniques such as anithetics and Halton draws. Recent advances in Bayesian procedures are explored, including the use of the Metropolis-Hastings algorithm and its variant Gibbs sampling. The second edition adds chapters on endogeneity and expectation-maximization (EM) algorithms. No other book incorporates all these fields, which have arisen in the past 25 years. The procedures are applicable in many fields, including energy, transportation, environmental studies, health, labor, and marketing.

Book Introduction to Probability

Download or read book Introduction to Probability written by David F. Anderson and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2017-11-02 with total page 447 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This classroom-tested textbook is an introduction to probability theory, with the right balance between mathematical precision, probabilistic intuition, and concrete applications. Introduction to Probability covers the material precisely, while avoiding excessive technical details. After introducing the basic vocabulary of randomness, including events, probabilities, and random variables, the text offers the reader a first glimpse of the major theorems of the subject: the law of large numbers and the central limit theorem. The important probability distributions are introduced organically as they arise from applications. The discrete and continuous sides of probability are treated together to emphasize their similarities. Intended for students with a calculus background, the text teaches not only the nuts and bolts of probability theory and how to solve specific problems, but also why the methods of solution work.
