Book Security for Cloud Storage Systems

Download or read book Security for Cloud Storage Systems written by Kan Yang and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-07-01 with total page 91 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cloud storage is an important service of cloud computing, which offers service for data owners to host their data in the cloud. This new paradigm of data hosting and data access services introduces two major security concerns. The first is the protection of data integrity. Data owners may not fully trust the cloud server and worry that data stored in the cloud could be corrupted or even removed. The second is data access control. Data owners may worry that some dishonest servers provide data access to users that are not permitted for profit gain and thus they can no longer rely on the servers for access control. To protect the data integrity in the cloud, an efficient and secure dynamic auditing protocol is introduced, which can support dynamic auditing and batch auditing. To ensure the data security in the cloud, two efficient and secure data access control schemes are introduced in this brief: ABAC for Single-authority Systems and DAC-MACS for Multi-authority Systems. While Ciphertext-Policy Attribute-based Encryption (CP-ABE) is a promising technique for access control of encrypted data, the existing schemes cannot be directly applied to data access control for cloud storage systems because of the attribute revocation problem. To solve the attribute revocation problem, new Revocable CP-ABE methods are proposed in both ABAC and DAC-MACS.

Book Algorithms for Data and Computation Privacy

Download or read book Algorithms for Data and Computation Privacy written by Alex X. Liu and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-11-28 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces the state-of-the-art algorithms for data and computation privacy. It mainly focuses on searchable symmetric encryption algorithms and privacy preserving multi-party computation algorithms. This book also introduces algorithms for breaking privacy, and gives intuition on how to design algorithm to counter privacy attacks. Some well-designed differential privacy algorithms are also included in this book. Driven by lower cost, higher reliability, better performance, and faster deployment, data and computing services are increasingly outsourced to clouds. In this computing paradigm, one often has to store privacy sensitive data at parties, that cannot fully trust and perform privacy sensitive computation with parties that again cannot fully trust. For both scenarios, preserving data privacy and computation privacy is extremely important. After the Facebook–Cambridge Analytical data scandal and the implementation of the General Data Protection Regulation by European Union, users are becoming more privacy aware and more concerned with their privacy in this digital world. This book targets database engineers, cloud computing engineers and researchers working in this field. Advanced-level students studying computer science and electrical engineering will also find this book useful as a reference or secondary text.

Book Design of a Secure Privacy Preserving Cloud Based Framework for Sharing Electronic Health Data

Download or read book Design of a Secure Privacy Preserving Cloud Based Framework for Sharing Electronic Health Data written by Munachiso Ilokah and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There exists a need for sharing user health data, especially with institutes for research purposes, in a secure fashion. This is especially true in the case of a system that includes a third party storage service, such as cloud computing, which limits the control of the data owner. The use of encryption for secure data storage continues to evolve to meet the need for flexible and fine-grained access control. This evolution has led to the development of Attribute Based Encryption (ABE). The use of ABE to ensure the security and privacy of health data has been explored. This thesis presents an ABE based framework which allows for the secure outsourcing of the more computationally intensive processes for data decryption to the cloud servers. This reduces the time needed for decryption to occur at the user end and reduces the amount of computational power needed by users to access data.

Book Privacy Preserving Range Query Search Over Encrypted Numeric Data in Cloud

Download or read book Privacy Preserving Range Query Search Over Encrypted Numeric Data in Cloud written by Yongmin Yan and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In cloud computing, to protect privacy when outsourcing database management systems, confidential data (e.g., bank account balance) has to be encrypted which however renders traditional query processing methods (e.g., the B-tree index) inapplicable. In this thesis, we consider processing range query search (e.g., retrieving all records with a bank account balance being less than some threshold) over a confidential numeric attribute with two main challenges. First, the confidentiality requires hiding the value and the relative order of the attribute in records from the cloud server, but computing a range query requires comparing the values of this attribute. Second, since the encrypted data does not preserve the closeness of plaintext values (for privacy reasons), a straightforward search has to scan the entire encrypted data to retrieve wanted records, which is not scalable for data of the cloud scale. In this work, we present a novel searchable encryption/index scheme to address these challenges.

Book Energy Efficient Computing and Communication

Download or read book Energy Efficient Computing and Communication written by Sangheon Pack and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2020-06-18 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Information and communication technology (ICT) is reponsible for up to 10% of world power consumption. In particular, communications and computing systems are indispensable elements in ICT; thus, determining how to improve the energy efficiency in communications and computing systems has become one of the most important issues for realizing green ICT. Even though a number of studies have been conducted, most of them focused on one aspect—either communications or computing systems. However, salient features in communications and computing systems should be jointly considered, and novel holistic approaches across communications and computing systems are strongly required to implement energy-efficient systems. In addition, emerging systems, such as energy-harvesting IoT devices, cyber-physical systems (CPSs), autonomous vehicles (AVs), and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), require new approaches to satisfy their strict energy consumption requirements in mission-critical situations. The goal of this Special Issue is to disseminate the recent advances in energy-efficient communications and computing systems. Review and survey papers on these topics are welcome. Potential topics include, but are not limited to, the following: • energy-efficient communications: from physical layer to application layer; • energy-efficient computing systems; • energy-efficient network architecture: through SDN/NFV/network slicing; • energy-efficient system design; • energy-efficient Internet of Things (IoT) and Industrial IoT (IIoT); • energy-efficient edge/fog/cloud computing; • new approaches for energy-efficient computing and communications (e.g., AI/ML and data-driven approaches); • new performance metrics on energy efficiency in emerging systems; • energy harvesting and simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT); • smart grid and vehicle-to-grid (V2G); and • standardization and open source activities for energy efficient systems.
