Book Canadian Agricultural Policy

Download or read book Canadian Agricultural Policy written by Vernon Fowke and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 1946-12-15 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1946, this historical analysis of Canadian agricultural policy from 1600 to 1930 tests the assumption that agriculture has been Canada's basic industry, central in the economic and political life of the nation. Professor Fowke demonstrates that agricultural interests have always been secondary in shaping agricultural policy. Government attitudes have been influenced less by economic and political agrarian pressures than by such considerations as defence of empire, provisioning of the staple trades, and later the investment opportunities offered to industry, commerce, and finance by an expanding agricultural frontier.

Book Agricultural Policies and Soil Degradation in Western Canada an Agro economic Assessment report 3 the Integration of the Environmental and Economic Components

Download or read book Agricultural Policies and Soil Degradation in Western Canada an Agro economic Assessment report 3 the Integration of the Environmental and Economic Components written by Aziz Bouzaher and published by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, Policy Branch. This book was released on 1994 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An integrated agro-ecological economic modeling system is being constructed around the Canadian Regional Agriculture Model (CRAM) for Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. As an initial application, and to test its performance, the system was used to evaluate the resource neutrality of the Gross Revenue Insurance Program (GRIP) in the Prairie Provinces. The report discusses the interactions between the major system components of agricultural decision (RS-CRAM) and environmental decision; imposes the policy scenario being simulated on RS-CRAM, where management decisions are simulated based on expected producer response to risk and options available in the input substitution component; interfaces management parameters such as tillage level, crop, and crop sequence from RS-CRAM with the environmental metamodels; and then performs an analysis to evaluate the overall economic and environmental impacts of the simulated policy scenario.

Book Health and Sustainability in the Canadian Food System

Download or read book Health and Sustainability in the Canadian Food System written by Rod MacRae and published by UBC Press. This book was released on 2012-07-18 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Civil society organizations are among the most vociferous critics of the modern food system. Yet even after decades of campaigns, governments have failed to address health and sustainability issues in a systematic way. New approaches are in order, and this volume showcases the research of experts from various disciplines who argue that solutions lie not just in lobbying elected officials but rather in initiatives at the subparliamentary level. Case studies on a range of topics, from breastfeeding and sustainable pest management promotion to programs such as Canada’s Action Plan on Food Security, tell a story of misguided campaigns and missed opportunities. Real change, this inspiring volume suggests, is possible. It will come when advocacy groups develop innovative strategies of influencing decision makers more resistant to public pressure: business lobbies well connected to government agencies, middle managers, and ministries unused to collaborating across departmental mandates.

Book Making Progress Together

Download or read book Making Progress Together written by Canada. Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) is responsible for all federal matters pertaining to agriculture and products derived from agriculture, which includes supporting agricultural production, processing, and trade. The focus of this fourth sustainable development strategy of the AAFC is to enhance the integration of the three pillars of sustainable development: economic, environmental, and social. Through various initiatives, AAFC strives to strengthen linkages between the three pillars to ensure a seamless approach to sustainable development. The fourth SDS highlights the ongoing implementation of the Agricultural Policy Framework and illustrates how the Department integrates sustainable development into decision-making. The SDS also helps lay the groundwork for the next generation of agricultural policies and programs. The appendix includes a summary of the Department's progress on the third sustainable development strategy.--Includes text from document.

Book Public Policy in Agriculture

Download or read book Public Policy in Agriculture written by Ashok K. Mishra and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-08-07 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, developed countries have formulated public policies in agriculture ranging from supporting rural life and farm income to promoting sustainability of food and fibre production. Public Policy in Agriculture: Impact on Labor Supply and Household Income addresses the lack of empirical research in this area. It explores the impact of differing approaches to public policy through a series of international case studies, from the USA and Canada to South Korea, Norway, Slovenia and Taiwan. At a time when much of the developed world has been experiencing budget deficits and policy-makers and the public in general have re-opened the debate on public expenditures in the agricultural sector, this is a timely volume. Mishra, Viaggi and Gomez y Paloma have written an authoritative guide to agricultural public policy that will serve as a reference for academics, researchers, students, and policy-makers.

Book Internationalization and Canadian Agriculture

Download or read book Internationalization and Canadian Agriculture written by Grace Skogstad and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 2008-09-06 with total page 393 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent decades, Canada's agricultural industry, one of the world's largest, has had to adjust to global trade developments such as the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and the World Trade Organization. Internationalization and Canadian Agriculture examines the patterns of continuity and change in Canadian agricultural policy making in important areas like farm income support programs, prairie grain marketing, supply management, animal and food product safety, and the regulation of genetically modified crops and foods. Arguing that the effects of internationalization have been mediated by Canada's political institutional framework, Grace Skogstad demonstrates how the goals and strategies of authoritative political actors in Canada's federal and parliamentary systems have been decisive to policy developments. Skogstad details the interaction between agriculture and the political economy of Canada, shows how international and domestic trade shape Canadian agricultural policies, and argues that while agricultural programs have changed, the post-war state assistance agricultural paradigm has persisted. A thorough political analysis and history of late twentieth- and early twenty-first-century Canadian agricultural policy and policy-making, Internationalization of Canadian Agriculture is an important contribution to political economy and public policy.

Book Agricultural Policies and Soil Degradation in Western Canada

Download or read book Agricultural Policies and Soil Degradation in Western Canada written by Aziz Bouzaher and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 66 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Canada's 1991 Farm Income Protection Act introduced two major farm income stabilization programs, the Gross Revenue Insurance Plan (GRIP) and the Net Income Stabilization Account. To analyze the impact of GRIP and NISA on the economy and environment of western Canada, Agriculture Canada proposes an integrated systems approach including the Canadian Regional Agricultural Model (CRAM) and components for input substitution, policy, ecology, and trade-off analysis. This report outlines the integrated systems approach and the major rules and provisions of GRIP and NISA that will be explicitly modelled. It then describes the methodology for modifying CRAM and the environmental component that will be linked to CRAM to evaluate soil erosion impacts of the programs. Finally, the report describes economic and environmental model linkages and concludes with proposed policy runs.
