Book Producer Price Index Manual

Download or read book Producer Price Index Manual written by International Monetary Fund and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2004-09-03 with total page 698 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The producer price index (PPI) measures the rate at which the prices of producer goods and services are changing overtime. It is a key statistic for economic and business decision making and inflation monitoring. The Producer Price Index Manual: Theory and Practice provides clear, up-to-date guidance on the concepts, uses, methods, and economic theory of the PPI, including information on classifications, sources, compilation techniques, and analytical uses of the PPI. The Manual supersedes the previous international guidance on PPIs (available in the Manual on Producers’ Price Indices for Industrial Goods, published by the United Nations Statistics Division in 1979). The Manual's conceptual framework derives from the System of National Accounts1993 and recent developments in index number theory. Preparation of the Manual was undertaken by the Intersecretariat Working Group on Price Statistics through a technical expert group chaired by the IMF and involving representatives from the ILO, the OECD, the UN Economic Commission for Europe, the World Bank, national statistical offices, and academic institutions.

Book Producer Cooperatives as a New Mode of Production

Download or read book Producer Cooperatives as a New Mode of Production written by Bruno Jossa and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-02-05 with total page 535 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The notion that there is no alternative to capitalism emerged after the fall of the Berlin Wall and made rapid headway due to increasing economic globalisation. More recently, this belief that there is no viable alternative has held firm despite the financial crisis, high unemployment levels and an ever-increasing gap between rich and poor. However, since the appearance of Benjamin Ward’s seminal 1958 article, economic theorists have been developing a workable alternative: a system of self-managed firms. The core argument outlined in this book is that a well-organised system of producer cooperatives would give rise to a new mode of production and, ultimately, a genuinely socialist society. This argument is developed through three key steps. First, following on from Jaroslav Vanek’s definition, it is argued that a ‘Labour-Managed Firm’, a firm which strictly segregates capital incomes from labour incomes, would implement a new production mode because it would reverse the pre-existing relation between capital and labour. Second, given that a system of these ‘Labour-Managed Firm’ cooperatives would reverse the capital-labour relationship, it is suggested that this would constitute a form of market socialism. Third, it is argued that compared to capitalism a system of producer cooperatives offers a wealth of advantages, including the potential for efficiency gains, the eradication of unemployment and the end of exploitation. Ultimately, this book concludes that self-management could take the place of central planning in Marxist visions for the future.

Book Metal Powders

Download or read book Metal Powders written by Joseph M Capus and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2005-12-14 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Metal powders are just a tiny fraction of the global metals industry, yet they play a key role in such high-profile sectors as cars and consumer electronics. The global value of metal powder consumption has risen since 2000 to over $3.7 billion from under $3 billion. Part of this increase is due to recently escalating primary metal prices. The increase in overall tonnage shipped is in the order of 20%. This fourth edition of Metal Powders: A Global Survey of Production, Applications & Markets 2001 – 2010 has been completely revised to include the most up-to-date information available, in order to provide a coherent picture of the development and status of the metal powder industry. The report is an overview of the production, applications and markets for metal and alloy powders. The market data is presented primarily in terms of tonnages because of the widely different prices of these powders. Markets for each of the metal powder types are discussed in terms of the major application areas. Market data for the main geographical areas are based on industry statistics, supplemented by company annual reports and by private estimates. Other data and forecasts have been compiled from literature surveys, personal visits and telephone interviews. * Review of metal and alloy powder consumption by type of powder and by geographical area * Market forecasts to 2010 * Technical overview of metal powder production * Worldwide review of major producers
