Book Chemistry of the Platinum Group Metals

Download or read book Chemistry of the Platinum Group Metals written by F.R. Hartley and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 645 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The chemistry of platinum group metals is a rapidly expanding commercially important field. It is dominated by the catalytic properties of the metals. They are useful in petrochemical and general chemical plants and are becoming increasingly important as autocatalysts for pollution control. The book covers recent developments in the chemistry of the six platinum group metals, namely, platinum, palladium, rhodium, iridium, ruthenium and osmium. The material falls into three broad areas. Firstly, the occurrence, extraction and use of the metals, especially in catalysis, electrochemistry, energy and electronics. Secondly, organometallic and homogeneous catalytic chemistry and last but not least coordination chemistry including biochemistry and cancer therapy. The work is aimed at scientists in universities and in industry using any of the six platinum group metals in research. It will be useful for those studying the compounds of the metals themselves, and those considering to use either the metals or their complexes and catalysts in their experimental work.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Like most supplement volumes of the platinum-group metal series,Platinum Suppl. Vol. A 1 has been written by an international team of specialists. It comprises technological data of all six platinum-group metals and their technically relevant alloys and compounds. The volume starts with a review on the recovery of the platinum-group metals (23 pages); the next 42 pages are devoted to processes for separating and refining the PGM in order to obtain metals of high purity. The electrodeposition of the PGM and their alloys is treated on 26 pages. The by far most extensive section deals with PGMand their alloys and compounds in catalysis. After a historicalsurvey and alist of important reviewson PGMcatalysis, the catalytic properties of the metals are treated in a general way, followed by unsupported metals and alloys including preparation of catalysts and their reactions in various industrial processes. The role of supported metals and alloys is described in asimilar manner. This isfollowed byan extensive description of the preparation and the reactions of PGM compounds with various nonmetals and their catalytically active role in a number of industrial processes (226 pages). The last chapter (21 pages) is a compilation of data on the medical use of cytostatic platinum compounds. Book Transatlantic Trade and Global Cultural Transfers Since 1492

Download or read book Transatlantic Trade and Global Cultural Transfers Since 1492 written by Martina Kaller and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-07-31 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Access to new plants and consumer goods such as sugar, tobacco, and chocolate from the beginning of the sixteenth century onwards would massively change the way people lived, especially in how and what they consumed. While global markets were consequently formed and provided access to these new commodities that increasingly became important in the ‘Old World’, especially with regard to the establishment early modern consumer societies. This book brings together specialists from a range of historical fields to analyse the establishment of these commodity chains from the Americas to Europe as well as their cultural implications.

Book Critical Metals Handbook

Download or read book Critical Metals Handbook written by Gus Gunn and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2014-01-06 with total page 468 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mankind is using a greater variety of metals in greater quantities than ever before. As a result there is increasing global concern over the long-term availability of secure and adequate supplies of the metals needed by society. Critical metals, which are those of growing economic importance that might be susceptible to future scarcity, are a particular worry. For many of these we have little information on how they are concentrated in the Earth’s crust, how to extract them from their ores, and how to use, recycle and dispose of them effectively and safely. Published with the British Geological Survey, the Critical Metals Handbook brings together a wealth of knowledge on critical metals and provides a foundation for improving the future security and sustainability of critical metal supplies. Written by international experts, it provides a unique source of authoritative information on diverse aspects of the critical metals, including geology, deposits, processing, applications, recycling, environmental issues and markets. It is aimed at a broad non-specialist audience, including professionals and academics working in the exploration and mining sectors, in mining finance and investment, and in mineral processing and manufacturing. It will also be a valuable reference for policy makers concerned with resource management, land-use planning, eco-efficiency, recycling and related fields.

Book Minerals in Africa

Download or read book Minerals in Africa written by Francis Gudyanga and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-08-10 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Africa’s dire need to industrialize is universally acknowledged and it is evident that the continent’s vast mineral resources can catalyze that industrialization. This requires the promotion of local beneficiation and value addition of minerals to yield materials on which modern Africa’s industry and society can rely. This book is, therefore, about transforming Africa’s comparative advantages in minerals into the continent’s competitive edge regarding materials. Mineral beneficiation and value addition form the basis and provide opportunities for mineral-driven Africa’s industrialization. The scope of the book is three-fold with inter-connected relationships: Information, Technical, and Policy oriented. It will be a useful reference material for mining undergraduate students on beneficiation and value addition of each of the minerals found in Africa. The book, while presenting a broad overview of beneficiation and value addition of Africa’s minerals, provides crucial starting material for postgraduate research students and R&D institutions who wish to delve into more advanced methods of extraction and utilization of mineral-derived materials that are in Africa for the purpose of industrialization of the continent.
