This book was released on 2012 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The dense plasma focus system of energy 2.3 kJ was used to synthesize titanium based nitride thin films. The book contains the details of research work including the introduction, plasma focus experimental setup, results obtained and their detailed discussion. It reports growth of titanium based nitride thin films specifically titanium-aluminum nitrides, nano composite-titanium nitride/amorphous-silicon nitride, nano composite (titanium, aluminum) nitride/ amorphous-silicon nitride and titanium-silicon-nitride. The results of these experiments show the successful synthesis of titanium based nitride thin films using the plasma focus system. The research work is motivated by the remarkable mechanical, thermal and electronic properties of titanium based nitride thin films, having many applications ranging from coatings on cutting tools to diffusion barrier in microelectronics.

Book Low Pressure Chemical Vapor Deposition LPCVD of Titanium Nitride

Download or read book Low Pressure Chemical Vapor Deposition LPCVD of Titanium Nitride written by Sameer Narsinha Dharmadhikari and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Titanium tetrachioride and ammonia were used as precursors in a Jow pressure chemical vapor deposition process to deposit titanium nitride films on silicon wafers. The process was carried out at temperatures from 450 to 850°C and the activation energy for the reaction was determined. The order of the reaction, with respect to the partial pressures of the reactant gases, was determined by carrying out the reaction at varying partial pressures of the reactant gases. The following rate equation was established for the reaction: rate = 4.35*10-5exp( -5150/T)*(PNH3)1.37(PTicl4)-0.42 The titanium nitride thin films deposited were characterized for properties like resistivity, stress, hardness, and density. The effects of varying the process parameters (temperature, flow ratio, etc.) on these film properties were studied.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume entitled "Protective Coatings and Thin Films : Synthesis, Characterization and Applications" contains the Proceedings of the NATO Advanced Research Workshop (ARW) held in Alvor, Portugal from May 30 to June 5, 1996. This NATO-ARW was an expert meeting on the surface protection and modification of solid materials subjected to interactions with the environment. The meeting attracted 10 key speakers, 40 contributing speakers and 3 observers from various countries. The existing knowledge and current status of the science and technology related to protective coatings and thin films were assessed through a series of oral presentations, key notes (titles underlined in the volume content) and contributed papers distributed over various sessions dealing with: (a) plasma-assisted physical and chemical vapor deposition processes to enhance wear and corrosion protection of materials, (b) low friction coatings operating in hostile environment (vacuum, space, extreme temperatures, . . . ), (c) polymer films for protection against mechanical damage and chemical attack, (d) characterization of the structure of films and correlations with mechanical properties, (e) wear and corrosion resistant thermal spray coatings, (f) functional gradient ceramic/metallic coatings produced by high energy laser beam and energetic deposition processes for high temperature applications, (g) protective coatings for optical systems, and (h) ion beam assisted deposition of coatings for protection of materials against aqueous corrosion.

Book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences

Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by Wade H. Shafer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 426 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and disseminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS)* at Purdue University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dis semination phases of the activity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all concerned if the printing and distribution of the volumes were handled by an international publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Corporation of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 38 (thesis year 1993) a total of 13,787 thesis titles from 22 Canadian and 164 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for these titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this impor tant annual reference work. While Volume 38 reports theses submitted in 1993, on occasion, certain uni versities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.
