In order to afford a general view of the whole field, the concluding summary has been added. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book An Introduction to Structural Botany Vol 1

Download or read book An Introduction to Structural Botany Vol 1 written by Dukinfield Henry Scott and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-23 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from An Introduction to Structural Botany, Vol. 1: Flowering Plants This book is intended as a first guide to the study of the structure of plants. Botany is now taught in schools of all kinds, and wherever Botany is taught it has become customary to expect some knowledge of the construction of plants, and of the function of their organs. All that I have airned at in this book is to secure that such knowledge, when first acquired, shall be correct as far as it goes. My purpose has been to write an Introduction to Structural Botany, not a manual of Botany in general. It is absolutely necessary that schoolboys and girls, if they are to learn this science at all, should also gain a knowledge of plants in the field. For this part of the work a guide is necessary, and some such book as Professor Oliver's Lessons in Elementary Botany is indispensable. Book An Introduction to Plant Structure and Development

Download or read book An Introduction to Plant Structure and Development written by Charles B. Beck and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2010-04-22 with total page 465 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A plant anatomy textbook unlike any other on the market today. Carol A. Peterson described the first edition as 'the best book on the subject of plant anatomy since the texts of Esau'. Traditional plant anatomy texts include primarily descriptive aspects of structure, this book not only provides a comprehensive coverage of plant structure, but also introduces aspects of the mechanisms of development, especially the genetic and hormonal controls, and the roles of plasmodesmata and the cytoskeleton. The evolution of plant structure and the relationship between structure and function are also discussed throughout. Includes extensive bibliographies at the end of each chapter. It provides students with an introduction to many of the exciting, contemporary areas at the forefront of research in the development of plant structure and prepares them for future roles in teaching and research in plant anatomy.

Book A Text Book of Botany Classic Reprint

Download or read book A Text Book of Botany Classic Reprint written by EDUARD. STRASBURGER and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-09 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A d104-Book of Botany IT is customary to place all living beings in either the animal 01 vegetable kingdoms, but in reality a sharp boundary line between animals and plants first becomes possible when they exhibit a complicated structure. In those of more simple organisation all distinctions disappear, and it becomes difficult to define the exact limits of Botany and Zoology. This, in fact, could scarcely be otherwise, as all the processes of life, in both the animal and vegetable kingdoms, are dependent On the same substance, protoplasm. With more complicated organisation, the specific differences increase, and the characteristics distinguishing animal from vegetable life become more obvious. For the present, it must be confessed, the recognition Of an organism, as an animal or a plant, is dependent upon its corre spondence with an abstract idea of what a plant or animal Should be, .based on certain points of agreement between the members of each class. A satisfactory basis for the Separation of all living organisms into the categories of animals or plants can only be obtained when it is shown that all organisms distinguished as animals are in reality genetically connected, and that a similar connection exists between all plants. The proof of this can only be arrived at through the theory OF evolution. From the study of the fossil remains and impressions Of animals and plants, it has been established that in former epochs forms Of life. Differing from those of the present age existed on the earth. It is also generally assumed that all living animals and plants have been derived by gradual modification from previously existing forms. This leads to the further conclusion that those organisms possess ing closely Similar structure, which are united as species in a genus, are in reality related to one another. It is also probable that the union of corresponding genera into one familv and of families into higher groups serves to give expression to a real relationship existing between them. Book Introduction to Botany Classic Reprint

Download or read book Introduction to Botany Classic Reprint written by Joseph Y. Bergen and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-26 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Introduction to Botany The order of treatment here adopted is first to give a general notion of the world-wide distribution and importance Of plants; then to enable the pupil to see the whole plant as a working machine; then to discuss more in detail the structure and work Of the higher plants, each region of which performs a definite part Of the work of the whole machine; then very briefly to present a general view of the great groups. Although through out the book the plants used as the basis Of study are usually those of common interest, a few of the most practical topics, such as timber and forestry, weeds, plant breeding, and the plant industries, are given separate treatment, with as much detail as is possible in a brief course. The structure, functions, and ecological relations of plants are presented throughout the book in a synthetic manner. Questions pertaining to the interpretation and application of different features Of plant life are introduced in the text and at the ends of chapters. Other similar questions raised by the teacher will be found helpful in presenting problems that the pupil should be able to solve in connection with his studies. Such problems help to develop the constant attitude Of inquiry which science attempts to establish. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
