Book Pion and Photon Production in Heavy Ion Collisions

Download or read book Pion and Photon Production in Heavy Ion Collisions written by and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Measurement of neutral pions and direct photons are closely connected experimentally, on the other hand they probe quite different aspects of relativistic heavy ion collisions. In this short review of the [pi]° results from the PHENIX experiment at RHIC our focus is on the [phi]-integrated nuclear modification factor, its energy and system size dependence, and the impact of these results on parton energy loss models. We also discuss the current status of high p{sub T} and thermal direct photon measurements both in p+p and Au+Au collisions. Recognizing the advantages of measuring not only the 'signal', but also all the 'references' needed for proper interpretation in the same experiments (with same or similar systematics) we argue that RHIC should regularly include d+A and even d+d collisions into its system size and energy scan.

Book Photon Annd Pion Production in Heavy Ion Collisions

Download or read book Photon Annd Pion Production in Heavy Ion Collisions written by and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this paper we describe different formulations for treating the nucleon-nucleon transport physics. These will all be semi-classical treatments; however considerable work has been done considering the relationship between quantal and semi-classical formulations. We discuss additional input specific to calculation of pion and photon yields, and present comparisons between calculated and experimental results, mostly for high energy photons. Conclusions and suggestions for future work are presented in the last section. 65 refs., 7 figs.

Book Introduction to High energy Heavy ion Collisions

Download or read book Introduction to High energy Heavy ion Collisions written by Cheuk-Yin Wong and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1994 with total page 542 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written primarily for researchers and graduate students who are new in this emerging field, this book develops the necessary tools so that readers can follow the latest advances in this subject. Readers are first guided to examine the basic informations on nucleon-nucleon collisions and the use of the nucleus as an arena to study the interaction of one nucleon with another. A good survey of the relation between nucleon-nucleon and nucleus-nucleus collisions provides the proper comparison to study phenomena involving the more exotic quark-gluon plasma. Properties of the quark-gluon plasma and signatures for its detection are discussed to aid future searches and exploration for this exotic matter. Recent experimental findings are summarised.

Book Inclusive Photons and Neutral Pions in Heavy Ion Collisions

Download or read book Inclusive Photons and Neutral Pions in Heavy Ion Collisions written by Ahmed Hamed and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2010-11 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The discovery of asymptotic freedom in the theory of the strong interaction has initiated the high-energy heavy-ion collisions program. It is expected such collisions to produce a deconfined phase of quarks and gluons. The prediction of the phase transition to occur in the vicinity of non-pQCD regime increase the challenges at the theoretical and experimental levels. The Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) at Brookhaven National Laboratory was constructed to explore the QGP-hadronic matter phase transition.

Book High pT Physics in the Heavy Ion Era

Download or read book High pT Physics in the Heavy Ion Era written by Jan Rak and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2013-04-25 with total page 399 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aimed at graduate students and researchers in the field of high-energy nuclear physics, this book provides an overview of the basic concepts of large transverse momentum particle physics, with a focus on pQCD phenomena. It examines high-pT probes of relativistic heavy-ion collisions and will serve as a handbook for those working on RHIC and LHC data analyses. Starting with an introduction and review of the field, the authors look at basic observables and experimental techniques, concentrating on relativistic particle kinematics, before moving onto a discussion about the origins of high-pT physics. The main features of high-pT physics are placed within a historical context and the authors adopt an experimental outlook, highlighting the most important discoveries leading up to the foundation of modern QCD theory. Advanced methods are described in detail, making this book especially useful for newcomers to the field.

Book Single particle Production and Photon hadron Correlations in P P Collisions at Next to leading Order

Download or read book Single particle Production and Photon hadron Correlations in P P Collisions at Next to leading Order written by Jonathan Coull and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this thesis, we study photon production and photon-hadron correlations at next-to-leading order (NLO) in proton-proton collisions, in both the cases of isolated and non-isolated photons. To begin, fundamentals of perturbative Quantum Chromodynamics (pQCD) are reviewed, with an emphasis on describing how to compute spectra for single particle production and correlated pairs at both leading order (LO) and NLO in hadronic collisions. In particular, a discussion of infrared and collinear singularities at NLO will provide a natural introduction to the concept of factorization. These results are then specifically applied to the case of computing photon and pion single-particle cross-sections in proton-proton collisions at Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider (RHIC) and Large Hadron Collider(LHC) energies, and compared to experimental data from the PHENIX and CMS experiments respectively. Included in this will be a short study of the theoretical systematic uncertainty ...

Book Neutral Pion Production in Nucleus nucleus Collisions at 158 and 200 GeV nucleon

Download or read book Neutral Pion Production in Nucleus nucleus Collisions at 158 and 200 GeV nucleon written by and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two years ago, at the 12th Winter Workshop on Nuclear Dynamics held here in Snowbird, the authors presented WA80 limits on direct photon production in 200-GeV 32S + Au collisions. It was found that the results were consistent (within 1[sigma]) with the absence of an excess of photons over those that can be accounted for by the two-photon decay branches of [pi]° and [eta] mesons and by the small photon contributions from other radiative decays. They are in the process of finalizing the direct-photon production results from collisions of lead nuclei at 158 GeV/nucleon. The author briefly discusses the status of the analysis and gives some preliminary results at the end of this talk. However, most of this presentation is concerned with a very different aspect of the photon measurements: distributions of neutral pions. In contrast to direct photons which probe initial collision conditions, hadrons, such as neutral pions, interact strongly and decouple late in the reaction evolution and, thus, provide information concerning the system at freeze out. Transverse momentum spectra at low and intermediate p{sub T} relate to thermodynamic and hydrodynamic descriptions of the hot, dense systems. In addition, the high-p{sub T} region reflects the hard-scattering regime and may help one understand initial-state particle production by forming a bridge to proton-proton and proton-nucleus results. It follows that it is essential that the [pi]° measurements cover a large p{sub T} range.
