Book Optical Absorption of Impurities and Defects in Semiconducting Crystals

Download or read book Optical Absorption of Impurities and Defects in Semiconducting Crystals written by Bernard Pajot and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-05-26 with total page 487 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Semiconducting and Insulating Crystals details how absorption spectroscopy provides information on the nature, concentration, charge state and configuration of impurities in crystals and also on their kinetics and transformations under annealing. After an introduction of the bulk optical properties of semiconductors and insulators and of impurities in crystals, this book presents the physical bases necessary for the understanding of impurity spectra. The description of various set-ups and accessories used in absorption spectroscopy is followed by a presentation of experimental results on specific impurities and classes of impurities and their relation with those obtained by various computation and by other experimental techniques.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ``Physics of Radiation Effects in Crystals'' is presented in two parts. The first part covers the general background and theory of radiation effects in crystals, including the theory describing the generation of crystal lattice defects by radiation, the kinetic approach to the study of the disposition of these defects and the effects of the diffusion of these defects on alloy compositions and phases. Specific problems of current interest are treated in the second part and include anisotropic dimensional changes in x-uranium, zirconium and graphite, acceleration of thermal creep in reactor materials, and radiation damage of semiconductors and superconductors.

Download or read book Impurity Spectra of Solids written by K. K. Rebane and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is very rewarding for an author to know that his book is to be translated into another language and become available to a new circle of readers. The study of the optics and spectroscopy of activated crys stals has continued to grow. The development and first remarkable successes of light scattering by impurities in crystals have occurred in the comparatively short time since my original book was sent to press. After experimental observation of the sidebands (wings) in impurity infrared absorption spectra, interest in these spectra as a source of information on the vibrations of a crystal in the neigh borhood of an impurity has increased significantly. Therefore, in addition to making minor corrections, r have supplemented the section on the effect of anharmonicity (section25) and written two new sections and another Appendix on infrared ab sorption, scattering of light by an impurity center in a crystal, and the adiabatic approximation, respectively. The bibliography has received several dozen new entries, but it nevertheless does not pretend to be complete. r hope that the American edition is useful and in some de gree corresponds to the general deepening of our physical under standing of solids.

Book Physics of Laser Crystals

Download or read book Physics of Laser Crystals written by Jean-Claude Krupa and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Physics of laser crystals has been constantly developing since the invention of the laser in 1960. Nowadays, more than 1500 wide-band-gap and semiconductors crystals are suitable for the production of the laser effect. Different laser devices are widely used in science, medicine and communication systems according to the progress achieved in the development of laser crystal physics. Scintillators for radiation detection also gained benefit from these developments. Most of the optically active materials offer laser radiations within the 500 to 3000 nm region with various quantum efficiency which fit the usual applications. However, new crystals for laser emissions are needed either in the blue, UV and VUV - region or far IR- region, especially for medicine, computer microchip production and for undiscovered practical uses. Scientific problems of the growth and properties of laser crystals are discussed in numerous books and scientific journals by many scientists working in the field. Therefore, we thought that joint discussions of the scientific and technical problems in laser physics will be useful for further developments in this area. We have proposed to held a Workshop on Physics of Laser Crystals for attempting to induce additional advances especially in solid state spectroscopy. This NATO Advanced Research Workshop (ARW) was hold in Kharkiv • Stary Saltov th nd (Ukraine) on august 26 - September 2 , 2002, and was mainly devoted to the consideration 0 f modem approaches and Iast results in physics of laser crystals.

Book Defects and Impurities in Silicon Materials

Download or read book Defects and Impurities in Silicon Materials written by Yutaka Yoshida and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-03-30 with total page 498 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book emphasizes the importance of the fascinating atomistic insights into the defects and the impurities as well as the dynamic behaviors in silicon materials, which have become more directly accessible over the past 20 years. Such progress has been made possible by newly developed experimental methods, first principle theories, and computer simulation techniques. The book is aimed at young researchers, scientists, and technicians in related industries. The main purposes are to provide readers with 1) the basic physics behind defects in silicon materials, 2) the atomistic modeling as well as the characterization techniques related to defects and impurities in silicon materials, and 3) an overview of the wide range of the research fields involved.

Book Optical Properties of Mixed Crystals

Download or read book Optical Properties of Mixed Crystals written by Roger J. Elliott and published by North Holland. This book was released on 1988 with total page 462 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ''Optical Properties of Mixed Crystals'' is concerned with the description of optical processes in substitutionally disordered semiconductors and insulators which can be basically described through their elementary excitations. Two of the chapters relate to the phonon response including the effect of side bands on electron transitions. Two relate to electronic spectra, one on photoelectron spectroscopy and the other on excitons. A further chapter deals with magnons in magnetic crystals and a final chapter is related to fluctuations and band edge effects. Each chapter deals with a specific class of excitation, but the book makes it clear that the fundamental structure of the excitation spectra, including band formation, band tailing and localisation is common to every type of excitation. The volume shows how some basic concepts and ideas can be widely applied to bring coherence and understanding to a diverse area of solid state physics. It therefore provides an up-to-date summary of the experimental and theoretical situation in an important and rapidly developing field and brings together for the first time a discussion of the many different types of spectra which appear in mixed crystals.

Book Growth of Crystals

    Book Details:
  • Author : N. N. Sheftal'
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2012-12-06
  • ISBN : 1461342562
  • Pages : 300 pages

Download or read book Growth of Crystals written by N. N. Sheftal' and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This tenth volume completes the first series of "Growth of Crystals," which began in 1957. The sources of the volumes are as follows: for Vol. I, the 1st All-Union Conference on Crystal Growth; for Vol. 3, the 2nd; and for Vols. 5 and 6, the 3rd; Vols. 7 and 8 reported the International Symposium on Crystal Growth at the Seventh International Crystallography Con gress, and Vol. 9 the 1969 symposium on crystal growth dedicated to E. S. Fedorov; Vols. 2, 4, and 10 did not originate in conferences. The main problem that largely occupied the conferences and symposia and also the inter mediate volumes was that of real crystal formation, as well as the relation of crystal growth theory to practical crystal production. This tenth volume, which completes this first series, is to a considerable extent a survey. It contains more extensive theoretical and experimental original papers, as well as some shorter papers dealing with particular but important aspects of real crystal formation. The volume opens with a paper by V. V. Voronkov, which deals with the structure of crystal surface in Kossel's model. The model as proposed by Kossel is extremely simple. It deals qualitatively with the basic trends in the growth of an idealized crystal in its own va por at absolute zero, and naturally does not allow one to perform quantitative studies on com plex real processes.
