Book Families Physicians and Children with Special Health Needs

Download or read book Families Physicians and Children with Special Health Needs written by Rosalyn B. Darling and published by Praeger. This book was released on 1994-08-23 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Families of children with special health needs frequently cite difficulties in their communications with physicians and other medical professionals. Indeed, parents of high-risk, chronically ill, and disabled infants often regard interactions with health care providers as one of the most stressful parts of their early experiences with their children. This volume was designed to present a variety of medical education approaches used to overcome this problem. After providing an overview of some of the difficulties faced by physicians and families of children with special health needs in their interactions with one another, the volume examines a number of useful medical education models. The models and viewpoints presented include those of physicians, early intervention professionals, professionals with backgrounds in education, psychology, and sociology, and parents. This volume is invaluable to those involved in designing and evaluating medical education approaches, and those developing public policy for children and the family.

Book Developmental Behavioral Disorders

Download or read book Developmental Behavioral Disorders written by Marvin I. Gottlieb and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 373 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We are most pleased to present Volume 3 of Developmental-Behavioral Disorders: Selected Topics, designed to serve as a companion for standard reference textbooks that address cogent issues in developmental pedi atrics. Periodic publications such as Selected Topics and theme-related articles, as well as continuing education programs, attempt to supple ment in a timely fashion the rapidly changing knowledge base in devel opmental-behavioral pediatrics. These media are important as forums for enhancing the quality of clinical practice, teaching skills, and re search activities. The need is critical for periodically disseminating and updating information about issues in developmental medicine, in as much as this field of study continues to expand at a meteoric pace. During the past several decades, developmental medicine has been recognized as a defined subspecialty in pediatrics. The spectrum of problems encompassed by this discipline is relatively broad and at times clinically overwhelming. The ultimate goal of preventing delays, disor ders, and/or dysfunctions from becoming chronic handicapping condi tions has, by volume per se, created clinical dilemmas for pediatric health care providers. There are numerous facets of providing efficient and effective care, which in the field of developmental-behavioral pediatrics are often exaggerated impediments to the delivery of services by pri mary health care specialists, e. g. , time, clinical skills, need for inter disciplinary management, medical-legal responsibilities, financial reim bursements. These issues, as well as clinical problems, are still very much part of the information base to be disseminated to concerned pro fessionals.

Book Infant Assessment

Download or read book Infant Assessment written by M. Virginia Wyly and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-02-12 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Infancy is one of the most fascinating periods in the human life cycle. In two short years, infants become thinking, speaking, social beings. As this book explains, over the past three decades, researchers and clinicians have developed an array of assessment methods for measuring infant development and diagnosing infants with developmental delays. The field of infant assessment has broadened from a major focus on cognitive development to an emphasis on parent-infant interaction, play assessment, and newer strategies that involve naturalistic observations. Because of the need to look at the whole infant, assessment often involves multiple disciplines. The interdisciplinary approach measures the infant domains of motor skills, cognitive abilities, and language acquisition and evaluates the infant's psychosocial environment. The chapters in this volume provide a solid overview of the current trends in infant assessment measures and procedures. The book can be used in undergraduate and graduate infant development courses and for advanced courses in infant assessment.
