Book Modification of Heat Cured Acrylic Resin to Flexible Acrylic Resin

Download or read book Modification of Heat Cured Acrylic Resin to Flexible Acrylic Resin written by Sufian Ahmed Yassin and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2011-03 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aims of this study are to modify heat cured acrylic resin denture base material into a flexible heat cured acrylic resin material by using additives {Flavoring agents and Plasticizer and to study some of it's physical and mechanical properties. One hundred sixty of heat cured samples and standard flexite have been prepared for studying some physical properties and tensile strength. The samples have been tested to measure (Tensile strength, Water sorption, Solubility, Color change, Dimensional accuracy). The results of this study have shown that the tensile strength of heat cured acrylic resin with additives was significantly lower than the standard heat cured acrylic resin while standard flexite group was significantly higher than standard heat cured acrylic resin. For dimensional accuracy, water sorption and solubility test, the group has shown significantly lower dimensional change, water sorption and solubility than other groups with additives but still higher than control group and flexite (valplast) one during seven days periods. For color change test there has been a change in color between groups that even cannot be considered.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: INTRODUCTION Esthetic dentistry can be defined as the art and science of dentistry, applied to create or enhance beauty of an individual within functional and physiological limits. Where as cosmetic dentistry is application of the principles of esthetics and certain illusionary principles, performed to signify or enhance beauty of an individual to suit the role he has to play in his day to day life or otherwise. Appearance is closely linked to social acceptance and professional success. No longer are people satisfied with just looking good, it must be coupled with a complete feeling of total well-being. Newer technologies are being harnessed for this purpose and advanced research is being undertaken. Thus, focus of dentistry in the present times is not only on prevention and treatment of disease but also on meeting the demands for better esthetics. Newer dental materials developed for esthetic enhancement are now chosen for their excellent mechanical as well as esthetic qualities. Esthetic dentistry is emerging as one of the most progressive and challenging branches of this field. Thus dentistry has evolved from a curative to a creative science in a very short span. The modern history of esthetic restorative materials was started with silicate cement, introduced by Fletcher in 1878, the principle anterior restorative material of those days. But, silicate cements were discouraged later on because of their poor strength, irritation to pulp tissue and brittleness. Even the nature of its setting and structure were but imperfectly understood. Self curing acrylic resin was introduced to the dental profession in the mid- 1950s. Initially used for the construction of denture bases, acrylic resin has also been used for many other purposes, including denture teeth, temporary restorations, intraoral splints and veneering agents for crowns and bridges. Since their introduction, acrylic based materials have continued to play a major role in restorative and prosthetic dentistry. But they too showed poor physical properties like high polymerization, shrinkage and coefficient of thermal expansion, irritation to pulp and dimensional instability. In attempt to improve their properties, and the potential for greater application of resins came about with the introduction of the bisphenol A and glycidyl methacrylate, or BIS-GMA, system by R Bowen in the early 1960s .

Book The Effect of Addition Chlorohexiidine Gluconate Powder on the Properties of Heat Cured Acrylic Resin

Download or read book The Effect of Addition Chlorohexiidine Gluconate Powder on the Properties of Heat Cured Acrylic Resin written by Amer Taqa and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2018-07-05 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scientific Essay from the year 2011 in the subject Medicine - Dentistry, , language: English, abstract: This study aims to evaluate the effect of the addition of chlorohexidine gluconate (CHX) (powder) on some physical, mechanical properties and antimicrobial effect. In this study two hundred and forty samples of heat cured acrylic resin (Major base-2) were prepared and divided into different groups. Control group (without the addition of CHX) and experimental groups (with the addition of CHX (powder) at (1%, 2%, 3%)) to evaluate transverse strength, tensile strength, surface hardness, dimensional accuracy, deflection, residual monomer in addition to antimicrobial effect for heat cured acrylic resin before and after the addition of CHX (powder). Results showed a statistically significant difference at (p0.05) between control and experimental groups. The addition of CHX (powder) into heat cured acrylic resin increases its flexibility in addition to it's antimicrobial effect. Group of 1% CHX has the highest value of transverse strength, tensile strength, surface hardness and dimensional accuracy after control group. In addition to its antimicrobial effect, CHX increases the flexibility of heat cured acrylic resin. As the concentration of added CHX increased, the flexibility of heat cured acrylic resin specimens will be increased.

Book excerpt: Research Paper (postgraduate) from the year 2012 in the subject Chemistry - Other, grade: 3, , language: English, abstract: Aims: To evaluate the effect of two prepared and commercial solution on surface roughness and tensile strength of highly impact acrylic denture base material Materials and Methods: The total number of specimens were one hundred and fifty. They were prepared from highly impact acrylic and subdivided into five groups for each solution (EDTA, Soda+H2O2, Lacalut, Corega and distilled water). Two laboratory tests were used for this research. Surface Roughness and tensile strength test. The surface roughness test specimens were constructed with dimensions (10×10×2±0.03mm) (length, width, and thickness respectively). According to ADA specification no.12 the tensile test specimens were constructed with dimensions 90×10×3±0.03mm (length, width, and thickness respectively). The immersion periods in this research are (2 day, 7 day and one month). ANOVA and Duncan multiple range test were used. The statistical results were considered significant at p ≤ 0.05. Results: the results showed that (soda+H2O2) has no significant change on the surface roughness and tensile strength of highly impact acrylic denture base material in (2d ay, 7 day, and 1 month) conclusion: (soda+H2O2) has the lowest effect on the surface roughness and tensile strength of highly impact acrylic denture base material in (2 day, 7 day, and 1 month) Key words: denture cleanser, highly impact, lacalut
