Book Physical and Chemical Processes in Gas Dynamics

Download or read book Physical and Chemical Processes in Gas Dynamics written by G. G. Chernyi and published by AIAA (American Institute of Aeronautics & Astronautics). This book was released on 2004-06-17 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A decade ago, Russian scientist Staly A. Losev assembled top scientists from various Russian institutions at Moscow State University and invited them to pool their knowledge about the changes gases undergo in a variety of aerospace settings from combustion of rocket fuels to hypersonic flow paths to the exteriors of atmospheric reentry vehicles. The work grew into the AVAGADRO Laboratory of Moscow State Universitys Institute of Mechanics. The models and formulas produced by the team of authors are contained in the second edition of the text book, "Physical and Chemical Processes in Gas Dynamics." The text provides a valuable window into the design philosophies and models that govern former-Soviet engineers and scientists. "Normally, these things are not accessible to U.S. engineers, "said Paul Zarchan of MITs Lincoln Laboratory, Editor-in-Chief of AIAAs Progress in Astronautics and Aeronautics Series that includes this text. Accompanying the book is the Russian-produced Chemical Workbench software, which is a user-friendly, Windows-based interface for performing calculations based on the models of gas dynamics contained in the book. The book and software provide concise, exhaustive, and clear descriptions of terms, notations, concepts, methods, laws, and techniques. It is invaluable for students and engineers who are determined to more accurately predict the physical and chemical processes in gas and plasma dynamics.

Book Fundamentals of Thermodynamics Thermochemistry and Gas Dynamics

Download or read book Fundamentals of Thermodynamics Thermochemistry and Gas Dynamics written by Joseph A. Kunc and published by . This book was released on 2020-03-25 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book discusses processes common in the three major fields of thermal science - Thermodynamics, Thermochemistry, and Gas Dynamics. Chapter topics include heat, work and entropy transfers in equilibrium, non-equilibrium, and local-equilibrium systems; calculus of multi-variable functions; equations of state of ideal and real gases; heat capacities of ideal and real gases and their mixtures; the Gibbs Equations; phase-equilibrium and multi-phase transitions; thermodynamic cycles and their efficiencies; fluxes and flow rates, subsonic and supersonic flows, and gas-dynamic shock waves; chemical equilibrium and rates of chemical reactions; the dissipation of energy in real systems, their exergies, and the available work. Part of the book discusses important systems of units used in science and engineering. Scattered through the text are numerous illustrative problems with solutions intended to help readers increase their understanding of the studied concepts and methods. Since thermal processes are important in many areas of science and technology, the book will be useful to students and professionals working in the areas, including the rapidly increasing number of those who work on multi-disciplinary projects but have no extended training in thermal sciences.

Book Non Equilibrium Reacting Gas Flows

Download or read book Non Equilibrium Reacting Gas Flows written by Ekaterina Nagnibeda and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-07-09 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the present monograph, we develop the kinetic theory of transport phenomena and relaxation processes in the flows of reacting gas mixtures and discuss its applications to strongly non-equilibrium conditions. The main attention is focused on the influence of non-equilibrium kinetics on gas dynamics and transport properties. Closed systems of fluid dynamic equations are derived from the kinetic equations in different approaches. We consider the most accurate approach taking into account the state-to-state kinetics in a flow, as well as simplified multi-temperature and one-temperature models based on quasi-stationary distributions. Within these approaches, we propose the algorithms for the calculation of the transport coefficients and rate coefficients of chemical reactions and energy exchanges in non-equilibrium flows; the developed techniques are based on the fundamental kinetic theory principles. The theory is applied to the modeling of non-equilibrium flows behind strong shock waves, in the boundary layer, and in nozzles. The comparison of the results obtained within the frame of different approaches is presented, the advantages of the new state-to-state kinetic model are discussed, and the limits of validity for simplified models are established. The book can be interesting for scientists and graduate students working on physical gas dynamics, aerothermodynamics, heat and mass transfer, non-equilibrium physical-chemical kinetics, and kinetic theory of gases.

Book Fundamentals of Thermodynamics Thermochemistry and Gas Dynamics

Download or read book Fundamentals of Thermodynamics Thermochemistry and Gas Dynamics written by Joseph Kunc and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book discusses processes common in the three major areas of thermal science - Thermodynamics, Thermochemistry, and Gas Dynamics. The usual hardship in understanding of thermal science results from the fact that it is a vast field of knowledge where a large number of concepts is applied to study a very broad range of problems. To make the field more transparent and comprehensive, the author starts with the basic natural laws, and formulates the general thermodynamic approach capable to accurately analyze an extensive range of physical phenomena. Subsequently, the approach is `reduced' in a clear way to `thermodynamics of chemical reactions' (Thermochemistry) and to `thermodynamics of flowing gases' (Gas Dynamics). Numerous illustrative problems with solutions are scattered through the text in order to help readers increase their understanding of the studied concepts and methods. Since thermal processes are important in most areas of physical science, this text will be useful to graduate and undergraduate students, and professional physicists, chemists, as well as engineers, including those in inter-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary areas of science and technology, who have no extended training in thermal science but often face problems similar to those discussed in this book.

Book Computational Fluid Dynamics CFD of Chemical Processes

Download or read book Reaction Dynamics written by I. Smith and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the last 30 years our knowledge and understanding of molecular processes has followed the development of increasingly sophisticated tech niques for studying fast reactions. Although the results are reported in papers and reviews, it is sometimes difficult for those not themselves active in these fields to find their way through the mass of published material. We hope that each book in this series will present a clear account of the present state of knowledge in a particular field of physical chemistry to research workers in related fields, to research students, and for the preparation of undergraduate and post-graduate lectures. Each chapter describes the theoretical develop ment of one area of study and the appropriate experimental techniques; the results presented are chosen to illustrate the theory rather than to attempt a comprehensive review. The first volume published in 1972 was concerned with the reactions of small molecules and free radicals in the gas phase. The development of flash photolysis in the 1950s paved the way by making it possible to generate free radicals in sufficient concentration for a spectroscopic" snapshot" to reveal their molecular structure. Their role in kinetic systems could then be followed directly, rather than be inferred from mechanism. The shock tube enabled gas mixtures to be heated to any desired temperature in a time which was shorter than subsequent chemical reactions. Discharge-flow methods enabled the reactions of atoms and free radicals to be studied directly.
