Book Peregrine s Christmas Adventure 2nd Edition

Download or read book Peregrine s Christmas Adventure 2nd Edition written by Keith F Broad and published by . This book was released on 2012-04-27 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In August 1974 I decided that, since Christmas was just around the corner, I would write a Christmas bedtime story - a bedtime story that I could read to my four-year-old son. I personally loved thick books that stayed with me for a long time, so I decided it should be a long story, one that took several nights to complete. Twelve nights seemed appropriate! So twelve chapters with a short 'Good night' verse at the end of each chapter (that signaled it was time for sleep and worked like a charm!) became the format. It was an original format then and still is, I believe.

Book Peregrine Pickle Christmas Summary Classics

Download or read book Peregrine Pickle Christmas Summary Classics written by Tobias Smollett and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2013-12 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Christmas Summary Classics This series contains summary of Classic books such as Emma, Arne, Arabian Nights, Pride and prejudice, Tower of London, Wealth of Nations etc. Each book is specially crafted after reading complete book in less than 30 pages. One who wants to get joy of book reading especially in very less time can go for it. About The Book "The Adventures of Peregrine Pickle," published in 1751, is the second of Smollett's novels. It was written under more congenial circumstances than "Roderick Random," although it is admitted that the hero is by no means a moral improvement on his predecessor. Sir Walter Scott describes him as "the savage and ferocious Pickle, who, besides his gross and base brutality towards Emilia, besides his ingratitude towards his uncle, and the savage propensity which he shows in the pleasure he takes to torment others by practical jokes, exhibits a low and un-gentlemanlike way of thinking, only one degree higher than that of Roderick Random." But the real interest of the story lies not so much in the adventures of Peregrine, as in the character of the old Commodore Trunnion. Thackeray declared Trunnion to be equal to Fielding's Squire Weston. If in "Peregrine Pickle" Smollett occasionally exhibits a tendency to secure variety by extravagant caricature, it is certain that in none of his works, and in none of those of any of his contemporaries, does a richer and more various crowd of personalities appear--a crowd at once quaint and amusing, disgusting and contemptible. Book Revolutions in Romantic Literature

Download or read book Revolutions in Romantic Literature written by Paul Keen and published by Broadview Press. This book was released on 2004-03-11 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This concise Broadview anthology of primary source materials is unique in its focus on Romantic literature and the ways in which the period itself was characterized by wide-ranging, self-conscious debates about the meaning of literature. It includes materials that are not available in other Romantic literature anthologies. The anthology is organized into thirteen sections that highlight the intensity and sophistication with which a variety of related literary issues were debated in the Romantic period. These debates posed fundamental questions about the very nature of literature as a cultural phenomenon, the extent and role of the reading public, literature’s relation to the sciences and the aesthetic, the influence of contemporary commercial pressures, and the impact of perceived excesses in consumer fashions. The anthology foregrounds the ways that these literary debates converged with broader social and political controversies such as the French Revolution, the struggle for women’s rights, colonialism, and the anti-slave trade campaign. This anthology includes an impressive range of writings from the period (including literary criticism and philosophical, political, scientific, and travel writing) which embodies the collection’s broad approach to Romantic literature. Both lesser-known and more canonical writings are included, and the selections are organized by topic in such a way as to dramatize the debates and exchanges which characterize the Romantic period.
