Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the story of a country boy who grew up in the hills of western Portland, on the east cost of Jamaica, running away from political conflict in his island home of Jamaica in the West Indies. Born and raised in a place called Balcarres in the Buff Bay River valley, searching for a better more secure life, looking for love in all the wrong places, until finally finding true love in Jesus Christ, my Redeemer who appeared to me in an audio-able voice on my flight to the United States on December 26, 1984, telling me that he would never leave me nor forsake me. When I revealed that to my friends in San Francisco, California, I was laughed at and mocked. But today, I am living that promise after some ups and downs, hard work, good times, and some bad times. Today, I am living a victorious sin-free life, walking hand in hand with Jesus Christ, and he has anointed me to preach and teach his Gospel. With only a ninth-grade education, I am not eloquent, I am not charismatic, I do not have letters behind my name, but it is all right. I am who God says I am, and I will continue to do what the Lord has called me to do while living a humble life, trying my best to stay healthy by walking two miles six o'clock, four mornings per week and defying what three doctors in three different institutions told me seven years ago after a life-threatening debilitating accident. I was paralyzed from my neck down, but whose report did I believe and accept: God's or the doctors'? Of course, I did believe and accept God Almighty's report, and I am here. Thank God I am here.

Book excerpt: Finally Broken is born out of personal experiences-from child abuse, spousal abuse, multiple marriages, and addiction to alcohol and prescription drugs-that author Rena Montford encountered throughout her lifetime. Never admitting to having it all together, but using her own personal struggle as a way for readers to relate, Rena's book invites readers to bring order to their own existence by inviting God's control over every segment of their lives. The content is raw and honest, and offers help and hope to those who wonder if they have out-sinned God's grace, or if their life circumstances have set them aside from being used by God. Is there a way back? Having reached the point of being Finally Broken, God has inspired the writing of Rena's life so that those who do not know Him in the fullness of His power might believe and trust Him when all other resources they sought have failed.

Book What Can I Do

Download or read book What Can I Do written by Jane Fonda and published by National Geographic Books. This book was released on 2021-09-07 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A call to action from Jane Fonda, one of the most inspiring activists of our time, urging us to wake up to the looming disaster of climate change and equipping us with the tools we need to join her in protest In 2019, daunted by the looming disaster of climate change and inspired by Greta Thunberg, Naomi Klein, and student climate strikers, Jane Fonda asked herself one question: What can I do? Jane Fonda, one of the most influential activists of our time, moved to Washington, D.C., and has since led thousands of people in demonstrations on Capitol Hill. In launching Fire Drill Fridays, Fonda teamed up with Greenpeace, leading climate scientists, and community organizers not only to understand what’s at stake, but to equip all of us with the education and tools we need to join her in protest. What Can I Do? isn’t a wish list—it’s a to-do list. So many of us recognize the urgency in stemming the tide of climate change but aren’t sure where to start. Our window of opportunity to act is quickly closing. And it isn’t only Earth’s life-support systems that are unraveling, so too is our social fabric. This is going to take an all-out war on drilling, fracking, deregulation, racism, misogyny, colonialism, and despair—all at the same time. The problems we face now require every one of us to join the fight for not only our immediate future, but for the future of generations to come. 100% of the author's net proceeds from What Can I Do? have gone to Greenpeace

Download or read book Cornered written by Barry C. Lynn and published by Turner Publishing Company. This book was released on 2009-12-10 with total page 411 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "A manifesto for our times." —Thomas Frank, Wall Street Journal Barry C. Lynn, one of the most original and surprising students of the American economy, paints a genuinely alarming picture: most of our public debates about globalization, competitiveness, creative destruction, and risky finance are nothing more than a cover for the widespread consolidation of power in nearly every imaginable sector of the American economy. Cornered strips the camouflage from the secret world of twenty-first-century monopolies-neofeudalist empires whose sheer size, vast resources, and immense political power enable the people who control to direct virtually every major industry in America in an increasingly authoritarian manner. Lynn reveals how these massive juggernauts, which would have been illegal just thirty years ago, came into being, how they have destroyed or devoured their competition, and how they collude with one another to maintain their power and create the illusion of open, competitive markets. A confluence of small government zealotry and misguided efficient market theories has lead to a complete dismantling of government oversight of industry. Has that brought us the promised economic utopia? Just the opposite. For decades, the dominant elite has used the federal government to all but encourage companies to buy one another up, outsource all their production, and make their profits by leveraging their complete power over the market itself. Lynn makes clear it will take more than a lawsuit or two to overthrow America's corporatist oligarchy and restore a model of capitalism that protects our rights as property holders and citizens, and the independence of our Republic. Details how regular citizens can join together to beat the great powers, and how to do so by relearning the real history and language of our democratic republic. Includes stories of real people and real industries that show how monopolies threaten independent businesses, squelch innovation, degrade the quality and safety of products, destabilize vital industrial and financial systems, and destroy the fabric of democracy Explores monopoly power across a wide array of industries, including appliances, auto parts, beer, eyeglasses, medical supplies, pet food, surfboards, vitamins, and more. Demonstrates how the drive for "always lower prices" makes your job disappear, puts your small business out of business, and turns dreams of entrepreneurial success into impossible fantasies Lynn is that rarest of creatures, a journalist whose theoretical writings are taken very seriously by the top policymakers and economic thinkers in Washington and around the world. His work has been compared already to John Kenneth Galbraith and Peter Drucker. The Washington Post called Lynn's last book-on globalization-"Tom Friedman for grownups." Cornered is essential reading for anyone who cares about America and its future.

Her new guardian immediately made her a prisoner in her own room—until she agreed to learn the lady-like arts. Furious, she complied. Anything to buy her freedom from Denbigh. She's even marry a man she didn't love to get away from her domineering guardian. In fact, love was the furthest thing from her mind... He was the Earl who vowed to tame her. Lionel Morgan, Earl of Denbigh, had been betrayed at the altar by another woman and vowed that no female would ensnare him again. Then Charlotte Edgerton burst into his life. Denbigh wasn't prepared for this headstrong American—or the passions she inspired on first sight. He knew only that he had to civilize her, present her at court, and Almack's, and then marry her off to the highest bidder. It wasn't until he nearly lost her that he realized the truth: She'd somehow reversed their roles and become the captor of his heart.

Book excerpt: What is it about some men that makes them an object of our deepest desires? And how far are we willing to go in pursuit of those desires? Chasing Adonis: Gay Men & the Pursuit of Perfection delves into one of the most central mysteries of gay life: What is it gay men find attractive in other men, and why? How much is nature, how much is nurture . . . or maybe just clever marketing? This unique book examines steroid use, body image disorders, gym culture, Internet hook-ups, obsession, stalking, porn, erotic Web sites, strip clubs and everything else that makes gay men act a little bit nutty when they meet someone who drives them crazy! Frank, sexy, and controversial, it uses a light touch to examine a serious subject: how gay society objectifies the male body. Tim Bergling, author of Sissyphobia: Gay Men and Effeminate Behavior and Reeling in the Years: Gay Men’s Perspectives on Age and Ageism, surveys gay men about their individual concepts of beauty and desire and about the almost unattainable Adonis standard many of them set for themselves. Teenagers, senior citizens, and the guys stuck in the middle discuss the idea of perfection, how much it changes or evolves over time, and whether the exterior package outweighs what’s inside. From the author: It never ceases to amaze me just how powerful the ’d-word’’(desire) can be, how it can take control of our lives and shut everything out, sometimes for just a few moments, sometimes for days or weeks at a time, depending on how badly we’re smitten. Ask just about anybody, and they can likely pull up a story from their pastor their presentwhen they’ve done something incredibly stupid or ill-advised, or maybe just something completely out of character, in pursuit of their heart’s desire. Chasing Adonis examines: obsession and rejection self-esteem issues the allure of youth preferences in body shapes, types, and sizes designer genes vs. first impressions assessing body parts narcissism or comfort level-why men chase after guys who look like them AIDS and HIV gay porn adult book stores and the Internet the Calvin Klein ad campaign featuring Marky Mark Wahlberg the Abercrombie & Fitch ads Tom of Finland gay icons weight training and fitness clubs steroids and plastic surgery circuit parties body dysmorphia and much more! Chasing Adonis: Gay Men and the Pursuit of Perfection is an entertaining and enlightening read for gay men of all ages.
