Book Pediatric Gastroenterology An Issue of Pediatric Clinics of North America

Download or read book Pediatric Gastroenterology An Issue of Pediatric Clinics of North America written by Harpreet Pall and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2021-11-05 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "It is timely that this issue [is] focusing on a wide array of pediatric gastrointestinal (GI) disorders, has identified many of those disorders that may result from or be exacerbated by COVID-19. The authors also describe COVID driven changes in clinical practice, such as dramatically increased use of telemedicine, more intensive sterilization practices before and after GI procedures, and how these changes may impact the health care of children. Given that COVID-19 is likely to remain a global pandemic that is impacting children, it is important that we take this into consideration as we train our current and future pediatricians, including but not limited to those whose professional focus is pediatric gastroenterology. Dr. Pall and the authors who worked with him on this issue have done an excellent job balancing the new COVID necessitated changes in GI practice with other breakthroughs in pediatric GI to bring us this very timely issue of Pediatric Clinics of North America." -- Foreword.

Book Cystic Fibrosis An Issue of Pediatric Clinics of North America E Book

Download or read book Cystic Fibrosis An Issue of Pediatric Clinics of North America E Book written by Susan G. Marshall and published by Elsevier Health Sciences. This book was released on 2016-08-09 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is a multisystem disease whose symptoms and signs involve the gastrointestinal tract (thus affecting nutritional status), endocrine system, reproductive system and the respiratory tract (nose, sinuses and lungs). Despite new treatments, the median survival for patients with CF is less than optimal, primarily due to complications of obstructive lung disease. Currently there are approximately 60,000-80,000 people worldwide with CF. The clinical manifestations of CF are caused by dysfunction of CFTR (cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator), a multifunctional cyclic-AMP regulated ion channel protein. Over time, there has been dramatic improvement in CF patient life expectancy, in large part related to earlier diagnosis (newborn screening), better understanding of molecular genetics and underlying pathophysiology, the integrated and highly specialized Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Accredited Care Centers, and development of a wide range of new treatments and therapies, some of which target the basic CFTR defect. This edition of Pediatric Clinics of North America will offer general pediatricians and family physicians, as well as subspecialists, an update of the extraordinary progress made in the understanding and treatment of Cystic Fibrosis.
