Pearls of the Orient is an ode to the bánh mì sandwich and the women who make it possible … the cultural mosaic of Kuala Lumpur … the life of the indefatigable 10 Rupee note … the liquid colors coursing thru Shanghai’s neon veins … how India’s roads flow like rivers, and the immaculate beauty which dots their banks. You will find odes to laundry day in China’s cities and an onomatopoeia of CNY fireworks … plus the dangerous threats lurking in Thai kitchens … the stonework and artistry of India’s Taj Mahal; the epic jeweled love letter ... how the monkeys of Agra do things … the intricacies of incense arranging in Vietnamese shrines … and how the first Buddha relics found their way from Nepal into an ancient Mon kingdom, and into a monolithic gem-studded, gold-plated temple.

Book The Oriental Pearl of Great Price

Download or read book The Oriental Pearl of Great Price written by Millie Leng Ngoh Rook and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2014-12-30 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: div> Why does poverty live next to wealth? Why does one school child have books and the other sitting next to her does not? Why does one come to school in a big car with a new uniform and posh bag while the one sitting next just looks on with envy, wondering when she can have the same? Why is it so easy for one whilst the other struggles? This was me as a young girl in Penang! Then everything changed when I was in Bradford, England; what and who made the amazing changes? This is a touching andI hopeamusing book based on my life events, from the unspoilt, tropical paradise that was Penang in the 60`s to the cold, autumn, grey London in the 70`s, onto the post war St. Lukes Hospital Bradford as a student nurse and then a midwife. Alone, in foreign surroundings, with strange English foods and even stranger Yorkshire accents, my deep fear, anxieties, and insecurities were highlighted. Moving upwards both in career and location to `Bonnie` Dundee, Scotland then to the bright northern lights of Aberdeen throughout the 80`s and 90`s shaped my identity with an ongoing relationship with Jesus. Finally, I returned to Malaysia to live in one of those big houses that I enviously walked past as a child! You are made for wonders to possess your promises! This book will reveal and confirm that you are a precious jewel! You are His treasure of great value; that valuable pearl of great price!

When we say something stupid or hateful, then we often ask for forgiveness and take it back. Sharp and piercing words stick in the mind like a coffee stain on a white shirt it never totally goes away. If these same words are used regarding the life that a man or woman has lived, is the effect any different? The answer is obvious: forgiveness may come from an apology, but in life there is no do-overs, only chan

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The preparation of this book has been a joint labor during the spare moments of the two authors, whose time has been occupied with subjects to which pearls are not wholly foreign—one as a gem expert, and the other in the fisheries branch of the American government. For many years the writers have collected data on the subject of pearls, and have accumulated all the obtainable literature, not only the easily procurable books, but likewise manuscripts, copies of rare volumes, original edicts, and legislative enactments, thousands of newspaper clippings, and interesting illustrations, many of them unique, making probably the largest single collection of data in existence on this particular subject. It was deemed advisable to present the results of these studies and observations in one harmonious volume, rather than in two different publications. While the book is a joint work in the sense that each writer has contributed material to all of the chapters and has critically examined and approved the entire work, the senior author has more closely applied himself to the latter half of the text, covering antiquity values, commerce, wearing manipulation, treatment, famous collections, aboriginal use, and the illustrations, while the junior author has attended to the earlier half of the book, with reference to history, origin, sources, fisheries, culture, mystical properties, and the literature of the pearl.
